It will be very interesting to see the grounds for the decision the appeal board came to. I hope it was purely the fact that the contact was made by head clash (which contrary to what the haters have said, was plainly obvious on video) and not due to a technicality with evidence, etc.

In my opinion, it was a fair bump in the absolute spirit of the game.

Where is JohnD???????????????????????

If this is true then its a win for every fan of AFL.

Stuff the fans!!...........The bigger picture is that it is win for the players and the game.

Very very comfortable with the decision....but not with how it can be deemed as a four week penalty one minute and then nothing the next!!

Be interested to hear the reasoning from the appeals board.

I think we may have argued on the point that there were no other reasonable option but to go the hip and shoulder. He could not tackle McGinnity as McGinnity did not have possession and he could not reasonably have been expected to take the possession of the ball as he would have been forced over the boundary line whereas if he bumped McGinnity he leaves Corrie to take possession of the ball without opposition.

Maxwell must surely now know that he is scating on thin ice when it comes to these "bumps" that he is known for. I'm sure you will see him take a different action when a situation like this arises again.

Maxwell has always said that he feels he has done nothing wrong.

If the same situation comes up again, I hope he does exactly the same thing.

"Bumps" - What do you call what he did?

Where are those WCE people??

Some of us are off celebrating the decision. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

From the moment it happened I thought it was a good/fair bump that all coaches would expect from their players.

It's just a shame that it had to go all the way to the 'highest AFL court' for the correct decision to be made.

But I am expecting AA & AD to come up with some sub-clause to the current rule that would have a bump like that banned forever.

Nothing surprises me with those two any more. :(

So great news isn't it?

So everything is now crystal clear on what is or isn't a legal bump.

A player can shirt front another player or go the bump, ignor the ball and have no duty of care to ensure head high contact is "accidently" the result.

What makes you think he ignored the ball? Shepherding a team-mate so he can gain possession is not "ignoring the ball". If it was behind play you'd have a case.

But he did nothing wrong. Kept his elbows in. Feet never left the ground. Great hit. Great for footy that he has been cleared.

Grey rule on this one. Anderson has already come out this week and explained why he is guilty on it. So they dont even know or agree on their own rules. What a joke.

If any of our players are in the same situation as Maxwell was i hope they do exactly the same thing

The injury sustained was purely an accident. Thank god the powers that be see it the same as i assume most of us would (especially if it was a player from our side up on suspension)

I see the AFL must have hired Dennis Denuto.

It's the vibe, sir.

Why didn't he just go for the ball? That's what I don't understand.

Looking at the replay, he could have got to the ball first, and he actually gets in Corries way, preventing him from getting to the ball also.

Therefore he just wanted to hit the player. Surely it would have been more courageous to put his head down and go for the ball rather than go for the bump. Just my opinion.

Glad to see the bump is not dead, and hope he cops a Beau Waters special next time we play the pies. :D

He ended up winning though

Also our last argument was that pulling out of a contest was not our game, which is very close to the Vibe line lol

Well said and waiting to hear from all those experts that were adament he was guilty.

****in Collingwood and AFL in bed together as usual. The guy gets a broken jaw from Maxwell's unsavory act. If Dale Thomas got knocked out and had his jaw broken by a young eagle rookie I reckon there would have been uproar in the east and he would have served time.

The best part is Greg Williams now looks an even bigger tool that he already was
Well he just has to open his mouth to do that really

Huh? afl and collingwood in bed?

you know this is the first appeal we have won in any of the systems?

We only won this appeal because th AFL royally ****ed up by making up new rules on tribunal day.

Take your conspiracy theories elsewhere

Why should he? The footy was a metre away, and on the bounndary line. Legally he can bump a player. Took the player out of the contest legally. If you can't enjoy seeing a hit like that then footy aint for you!
