Pretty tough for Maxwell and the Pies.
One week was enough to remind him he cant touch the head. I guess priors carried him over.
As Ive said before, a fair bump and in the right context but high contact was unfortunate.
Im sure the Pies will be Ok without him:thumbsu:

I love a good hip and shoulder. Unfortunately, he caught McGinnity in the face.

If you had your jaw broken by someone who failed to follow the rules of a hip and shoulder i would expect you would want some penalty for the fella
You know when i lost a cracked some teeth (lukily they were at the back of my mouth lol) back in the day i said i probably should of used my peripheral vision

Now it seems to be play dead, dont brace for impact and what the perpetrator get raked over hot coals for it

He ran straight past the ball.

Poor effort.

Sniper!

oh u didnt see the other Collingwood player in the play?

hmmm maybe i can explain this to you.......

Maxwell runs past the ball to take the kid out of the play so his team mate can have a free crack at the ball..... is that too difficult to comprehend?

secondly the 1st part of the contact is in his chest, the fwd momentum of the hit causes them to clash heads.

He did he thought maxwell may possibly be like setanta and take out his team mate instead.

he is one from the slow breed we call carlton

Tough, but he would know that high contact carries a higher penalty

Doesnt matter if it was an accident or not he still did it. You cant get off anything by saying "you didnt mean it" otherwise half of our criminals would be laughing

He meant to bump him mate, if McGinnity was half aware he would of known a bump was coming. Instead he stays in sleepy hollow and got his jaw broken n a head clash duing the bump and maxwell gets punished for the new kid not be adjusted to AFL footbally

if that kid couldnt see Maxwell coming then his vision is shithouse.

Be that as it may, would someone kindly explain to me what precisely was negligent about what Nickwell did?

I guess "accidental conduct" isn't quite as catchy.

ahhh - hitting his jaw with the bump - i would have loved this bump if it was done properly, ie. contact only with the torso - but Maxwell couldnt get it right and he bumped up and under his jaw - so hitting his jaw as well as the torso is 'negligent' - pretty obvious really

Obvious doesnt work with supporters of any club. They are all blind to truths for some reason.

It was negligent. It was high. It was forceful. Exactly as the MRP gave down. He is only a young player who was going for the ball. As far as the team play Maxwell was doing, yes he did the right thing. I would have done the same.

He screwed up the way he didnt it and he will be penalised

What's the Difference between that and Accidental Contact?

couldnt get it right? well from what i saw he hit him right down the middle and the kid struggled to get back up.
Fantastic hit by Maxy and i hope he doesnt hold back next time because the tossers at the AFL r trying to make this game into a joke.

What's the Difference between that and Accidental Contact?

Because of the express warnings they've given about forceful contact being done 'right' (ie torso only)... they've clearly communicated and set strong precedent in recent years with rule and interpretation tweaks that the onus is on a player bumping that there is no head contact.

The accidental contact interpretation is applied where it is secondary to other movement and usually minor eg. glancing the head while spoiling (however even then it can be ruled neglicgent - if the blow is heavy and direct where the other player didnt contribute by unpredictably moving their head late or their head being moved by another player etc = accidental).

But when your intent is to bump, thats all you have to get right - the contact - which he didnt... so its 'negligent', not 'accidental'. For example hypothetically if he had slipped, bounced off his own player and then careened into his Jaw badly it would be 'accidental'... but his intent was to bump, so all he had to do was get it right, which he unfortunately didnt - sux, but the onus is on him

Mate,

Open your eyes, please.

It was the point of his shoulder.

High hit- suspension.

Have you watched the different angles and slow-mos and paused it? It is clear contact of his upper shoulder to his jaw... the rest of his upper arm and torso is a perfect hard bump - loved it live and thought it was awesome - just as the umpires prob saw it at full speed - but when you look at it again, 'technically' he got it wrong - just that slight bit too high... i'll try and upload a high res pic of the point of impact for yas

Why didnt Mitchell cop a month for his bump on Ablett in the GF

That was more dangerous and later and he got off scott free.

Negligent refers to the intent, not to the result. Please try again.

I don't care if Maxy gets 3 weeks if everyone gets 3 weeks for that type of incident. Just give some consitency.:thumbsd:

Ill find it on Youtube when i get back online

The match day report against Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell for making forceful contact from front-on against Geelong’s Gary Ablett was reviewed. It was the view of the panel that Mitchell’s bump was caused by circumstances outside the control of the player, which could not be reasonably foreseen, in that Mitchell was pushed by Geelong’s Cameron Ling into the contact with Ablett. On the viewing of further vision that was made available today, Mitchell tried to reduce the impact by attempting to slow down before contact was made. Mitchell did not turn side-on to bump Ablett. It was the view of the panel that the bulk of the contact was between Mitchell’s ribs and Ablett’s right shoulder. There was some contact between Mitchell’s forearm and Ablett’s head but that was seen as self-protection by Mitchell by the panel. No further action was taken.

All clear. Reasoning matches the report.
