Gilham by a country mile.

Maxwell has no football skills at all. He is just a wannabe tough guy.

This time last year it was Maxwell v Campbell Brown.

This time next year it will be Maxwell v Dawson.


Bit harsh, but Maxwell just isn't a very good footballer and is a wanna be tough guy. I like his tenacity but seriously don't think there is one position he can excel in.

Wouldn't be surpised if he fades from the AFL over the next 2-3 years Jason Cloke style.

Maxwells courage makes up for an obvious lack of skill, he's a shit defender, alright forward when nobody marks him, he'll end up as a tagger IMO

Gilham is much better then Maxwell. Gilham takes the second best forwards. Maxwell just floats around without an opponent

I used to think that as well, I am not so sure now though.

Roo was killing us (well killing brown) in the semi-final this year, but Maxwell seemed to negate him quite well when he moved on to him.

I wouldn't discard him just yet.

Riewoldt still kicked 1 goal in that time, and the game was already over.

I don't see why so many write off Maxwell. Obviously not the most talented player, but has a lot of ticker and you can see is a real leader for the pies.
Gilham isn't a great one on one defender, but rarely makes a mistake and has a beautiful kick on him.

Maxwell tries hard and is hard at it, but gilham has lots more skill and zones off more to get posessions, Maxwell just stays on his man almost the whole time, but does a job for you every time, don't think he gets too badly beaten often, but depends what your team needs, reliable CHB who provides hard contest all day,then i'd say Maxwell. Birchall plays as KP back but i think he could easily be a back pocket, like Gilham a little bit more, good kick as shown by that goal (almost on the siren) from 55 to 60 out against WCE earlier this year.

Gilham for mine. kicking is much better and is an important part of the zone or cluster we set up with.
