Issues, personal opinion and all that jazz aside, Harry was quite brilliant in his role last year I thought.

Love him or hate him, we are a better side with him in the team. He becomes even more important next year with us losing Thomas and Shaw, two guys who were prepared to carry the ball, and be 80 meter players.

And back on topic. Maxwell is nothing but a realist IMO. I'm sure he has sat down with the coaches, and probably other players to get their opinions. He would be the first to put his hand up when his time is up.

Big believer that you don't burn GREAT club/team people. Treat your legends and champions with respect and dignity.

Can't play on big guys or small guys. He isn't a good user of the ball, in fact he is poor.

Just about every team has someone play the same role who is better than him.

Been great and has a fantastic legacy but now is the time to move on

I am probably the biggest Maxy fan on this forum. I didn't want to come into this thread again after posting earlier. He gets so much undeserved hate.

If the players vote Maxy as captain, he will be captain.

By the way, I don't think Pendles is ready for captaincy yet. If not Maxy, Ball for at least one year n a Scott burns type situation.

Anyway, is it still up to the players. I know they love Maxy and there are worse players in our 22. I don't like mentioning names but guys like brown, goldy, blair, O'Brien get more credit than Maxy undeservedly. Even cloke doesn't do his job as well as Maxy imo.

If I could have one guy to play for my life from current pies side, it would be Maxy.

There aren't any worse regular players than him. Only really Lynch, but he spent a good amount of time in the vfl as Maxy should have. Goldsack and Blair were average last year but obrien was excellent, and Brown played a tight defensive game for most of the season. Cloke is light years ahead of maxwell sorry but you're far off in dreamland on that call. He even speaks better than maxwell.

There is no way that Cloke speaks better than Maxwell. You'd never hear Maxwell talking about smoke and daggers behind mirrors.

Good player but not up to AFL standard for season 2014. Will make a good coach. Likeable guy.

Maxwell has been a great leader for us and would maybe be best suited in a mentoring role at VFL level. I don't think he brings enough to the table in terms of skill and pace. The specialty of his game (that being the third man up) is far from effective now, he doesn't have enough zip to be considered a running/rebounding defender (plus we've got Seedsman, Williams, O'Brien and Toovey to do that), he doesn't match up on a power forward (Reid, Brown, Keeffe and even Frost would get those assignments before him), and he can't play on a small crumbing forward. I love the bloke, he'll always be a Collingwood premiership captain but I don't think there's a spot for him in our best 22, but there's definitely a spot in our club.
