Yes I happen to know teams need leaders. Thanks for that.
But the best teams have footballers on the field taking leadership roles, not leaders taking footballing roles.
Maxwell will make a great backline coach, if we want the ultimate success we prioritise footballers with the skills to take us there. Relying on heroes from the past will not do.

My opinion is that he has done more than enough this year to stay in the side. I don't see his spot in the 22 as some sort of charity. He has earned it.

He has been good, but there is better.
Do you propose we drop Seedsman to bring him back in?

I don't suppose that was because St Kilda are by far the weakest opponent we've played so far?

Even the in the 2nd and 3rd quarters we were just average, won the 2nd by 3 points and won the 3rd by 12 points.

Right and let me guess we would have done way better if maxwell hadn't been injured and Seedsman didn't play?

He is spot on with his post overall, but you too have a point you need a general on field but also the players should damn well know their role and positioning from being drilled off the field by the coaching staff.

I think Maxwell wouldn't of done sweet fa to stop the goals mentioned in this thread and is purely a deflect to say missed him in an 86 point drubbing. Sure it may have thrown our structures out at first but they settled and did their job. Also Seedsman provides us with so much better drive out of the backline it is not funny this is what i was talking about when saying sure Maxwell is playing well but we have players with much bigger weapons who can fill a similar role and need the game time to develop sure they will have down games as they mature into the role.

You have to start basing posts on reality at some stage.
I have never even hinted Maxwell has an eternal use by date, nor any other poster I'm aware of. Neither has Maxwell.
Do you not agree Maxwell has been inspirational and pivotal in several games this year?
I have no probs admitting he was average in a few last year.
Fact is the calls for his head have for the most part been driven by idiocy, inexplicable hatred and some who cannot admit they got it horribly wrong when they shit-canned him the day he was named Captain and now cannot find it in themselves to admit how completely wrong they were.

What an amazing captain he has been...both of the team and the backline.
(I still get chills watching the final Q of the drawn GF when he took that mark, still cant believe it - and the chase down of the rolling shot on goal by Reiwoldt.)

While other teams think their captains need to be the ability to be an elite kick / or take the huge mark / or get 30+ possessions games, our captain organises our structures and makes everyone play better and walk taller.

Yes, we are a better side with him. Hoping someone like Sharon will come in an be a vocal leader like Maxy in time.

Great post. Maxwell has been, and this year has once again shown, he is as good as anyone in the league at playing the role he does.

Why are people comparing Maxwell and Seedsman. Shows lack of knowledge. Can only be to try and have another crack at Maxwell. They are hardly competing for the same spot. Seedsman is in competition with Young, Langdon, H, Williams etc.

The highlighted section of your post is why I don't frequent this board very often, you obviously cannot have a discussion without resorting to abuse. Calling me a troll in an earlier post and now I hate Maxy and am an Idiot?

Maxy like all players his style has a use by date and I think the time has come. This is not MM's team of 2010 who needed to be told where to stand and how to play by an on field leader, this is Buckley's team and he has the Team thinking for themselves/playing for each other and they already have a captain we do not need two!

I have no issue with discussion, and you make valid points, but it was also your post which made the ludicrous assertion we should bring back Bucks and that because "some" thought Maxwell was an inspiration they assert he should play forever.
