How does this promote binge drinking?? Surely slamming down pots at quarter and half time is more binge drinking than pacing yourself over the course of the day....

They have to allow it as the amount of members asking why are we paying $700 for subs when the average joe in the outer is getting the privledge.

Can't blame all of the staff, some of us work very hard so you peons can have your beer.

When 500 people cram into a bar over the space of 2 mins. It takes some time, be patience. If you bitch at the staff, they will make sure you are served last.

So YOU work in a bar and you call me a "peon".

Most of the staff there are useless - I'd love to see them serving at a club, they wouldn't last 5 minutes.

Hopefully this gets up and I don't have to hold up the queue any more, explaining what's in a Bundy and Coke.

Look, I wasn't having a go at you, just the muppets. I'm not impatient. I'm very patient. I'm never rude to people's faces either. I never yell across the bar. Not that it seems to matter to half of the unobservant MCC bar staff. You stand there patiently waiting and the bartender is just as likely to serve the customer immediately in front of them, whether they've been waiting 20 minutes or 20 seconds.

Here's a couple of suggestions for you to pass on. Why don't you start pouring extra beers before the siren goes? Then 500 people won't have to stand there, watching, waiting for each beer to be poured. And don't hire people who have never handled cash or poured a beer.

Many of us don't even bother going for a beer during the game. I wonder if the MCC and Spotless realise just how many sales they are missing out on? In most bars I know, they can't pour the lager fast enough. If they can't cope with the demand, they hire more people.

If there was competition from other bars, you can bet the service would be quicker. There's an idea. Maybe we should just wander up to the Hilton Hotel or the MCG Hotel on Wellington Pde. It would be quicker to get a drink...

Lets not blame the staff behind the bars... The fact the MCC have employed a "drink only in the bar" policy means that crushes at certain points in time are inevitable...

I think the club must've had similar complaints to mine and they realise it's become a problem in 2008.

Otherwise they wouldn't be canvassing the idea

Why don't you at least get one person to start pouring beers at the 25 minute mark of each quarter? You don't have to line up stale beers all day long, but at least make a small dent on the 1/4 time and 1/2 time crush.

As for plastic cups, well glass is better, but whatever makes things more efficient and quicker...

The subs have doubled but we're getting less in return.

Beer was always served in a glass and at normal prices, not these marked up football prices. The bars were better and more atmospheric. Carpeted, more spacious. The actual bar serving areas were larger, more people were able to be served at any one time. They used to work their way down the bar in tandems, one guy constantly pouring, the other guy taking money.

Nowadays you see three people going back and forwards to the same tap, pouring each drink, waiting for each other, then over to the till, back with the change. It's like pulling teeth. There's quicker ways to do it.

I no longer get pissed at the football, whereas I always used to get pole-axed, so I suppose it's a blessing in disguise.

It ruins the game when you have to sit through the remainder of the match with a stinking freezing back because a minority of drinkers buy trays of it and slop it all over you as they inch back to their seats. And lets not forget those that don't wait for the break and stand in front of the game whilst handing out tubs to their mates.
Sure ...have a drink at the footy but keep it to the standing areas.

Currently, in some of the bars, you can't even see the ground, so you have to watch the game on a small telly if you want to see what is going on.

You should be able to at least watch the game live AND have a drink, ffs.
