This is a quick notice to all MCC members out there and people who have been guests in the MCC reserve at the MCG. The MCC website is currently running a poll asking if members would support the introduction of "wet areas " ( i.e can consume alcohol in the viewing seats ) in the MCC reserve.

For all those members out there who like me are sick of having to cram into the bars and skull down a pot at half time or between quarters, and who would rather just enjoy a drink out in the outer like all the other sections in the G then log onto the MCC website and vote "YES"

www.mcc.org.au

Cheers

This is a great idea. Well overdue. None of the muppets who work in those bars seem to understand the concept of halftime and picking up the pace when there are 100 people waiting to be served. You queue up at the 28 minute mark of the 2nd quarter, wait 20 minutes to be served and then have to skull your beer as the third quarter begins.

It would be nice to be able to hook into a few beers when shit football teams like North Melbourne play everyone behind the ball and flood like crazy.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll check it out now.

However while I applaud the idea of being able to have a beer in your seat, a couple of dry areas should be retained for families and the more conservative members who would oppose such a change (and if this happens, I dare say it would be all of level two).

Great stuff, this would be great. No plastic cups though. And full strength alcohol we aren't outer riff raff

Can envisage any problems serving full strength alcohol, but you can bet your bottom dollar the club won't allow glass in the outer.

If this actually happens I think it will be introduced VERY conservatively.

I know.

I say bring back cans!!

I agree i think a wet and dry area would be the best approach.. No probs with that...

And yep, definatly cant see Glass being allowed out. Quite happy to drink full strength from the plastic though....

I'm one of those "muppets" who works in a bar there.

Can't blame all of the staff, some of us work very hard so you peons can have your beer.

When 500 people cram into a bar over the space of 2 mins. It takes some time, be patience. If you bitch at the staff, they will make sure you are served last.

While it'll be good I think it'll also be bad.
Yes I'll love to be able to have a drink with my mates in my seat while watching the game, but at the same time drinking and idiots just won't work in the MCC.
In the last 2 years the MCC members have been in a number of fights, 1 guy was bottled in a bar resulting in glass being removed from the Frank Smith bar & there was a huge fight last year where someone got badly hurt.

One thing I would love is the level 1 becoming a adult member & guest area like the old stand was.
The last few times I've been I've had kids just getting up and down every 10 minutes & 16 year olds with 4 guests and dropping every swear-word under the sun.

Lets not blame the staff behind the bars... The fact the MCC have employed a "drink only in the bar" policy means that crushes at certain points in time are inevitable...

thanks for the heads up. it is the only issue with the MCC. IMO if you can drink in the outer its a given that you should be able to drink in the members.

It would be so much nicer if we would just sit back and let Buddy kick 10 goals, wouldn't it? :D

No. This promotes binge drinking and cannot be endorsed.

How does this promote binge drinking?? Surely slamming down pots at quarter and half time is more binge drinking than pacing yourself over the course of the day....
