Collingwood has temporarily elevated emerging forward Brent Macaffer onto its senior list as a replacement for the injured Sean Rusling.

20-year-old Macaffer, who has been on the Magpies' rookie list for two seasons, has been in excellent form at VFL level, having booted 37 goals in 2008, including 32 majors since round 10.

"Brent has been in good, consistent form, particularly during the second half of the VFL season, and has kicked plenty of goals", Collingwood chief of football Geoff Walsh told collingwoodfc.com.au.

"By putting Sean Rusling on the long-term injury list, it created an opportunity for Brent to be considered for senior selection for the last two rounds of the AFL season."

Macaffer is a mobile 187-centimetre forward with excellent hands, speed and strength, and led the Victorian TAC Cup Under 18 competition goal kicking while playing for the Gippsland Power in 2006.

He was the Magpies' second selection in the 2006 rookie draft at No. 26 overall, and is the third rookie from that draft to have been elevated to the senior list, joining Martin Clarke and Sharrod Wellingham, who have both played senior football.

Collingwood placed Rusling, who had a shoulder reconstruction earlier this year, on the long-term injury list this month prior to the AFL's long-term injury list placement deadline.

The Magpies will need to again elevate Macaffer onto the senior list at the end of the season if he is to have a permanent place on the list for 2009.

Good Luck to him but the Bad news is that Daisy or Medder or Both won't play on the Weekend

Guess we can Say that the 2006 Rookie Draft was a Success:thumbsu:

Bad news that Daisy or (hopefully not and) Medders probably won't be right, but great news to hear MacAffer is promoted, and you would assume getting a gig this weekend.

He also has the same name as me, which makes him even better.

Will almost certainly play now on Saturday night, so great news and well deserved for the De-cAffer-nator.

Assuming now that both he and Wellingham are elevated at season's end, one wonders if that will influence our decision on whether to place scholarship holder Scott Reed on the senior list, or the newly extended rookie list.

Is it next year that the rookie list goes to six, Sampler?

How come Rusling only just went on the long term injury list?
Because no was going to be Elevated so there was no Need and there was a Chance he would come back but It's not going to happen now

From another thread it was something like.

Bluey McKenner said he didn,t handle it mentally, then had a couple of off weeks in the 2's :thumbsd:

I hope he didnt say that. Even if true, he should have kept those types of comments to himself.

McKenna will have to learn fast not to publicly humiliate youngsters, otherwise he wont have a team to coach in 2011.

I wouldnt take those comments too seriously, if he even made them. He either didnt say those things or his quote has been taken out of context. I'm more interested in what McAffer does on the field - thats how to judge him.

Always good to see a new Magpie debut and particularly so when he's been held back a bit asnd comes in with good form and hopefully confidence. Lets hope we can get some ball in the middle and give him an even chance. Hope he doesn't get burnt if Sydney shut us down and flood back like they can.

Would be awesome to see Dawes and McCaffer had good games.

Has to be the guy with the most misspelled last name on our list.

Isn't it just Macaffer?

Who knows but you raise a valid point... We will need an easy to spell nickname stat!

You don't elevate them if you don't expect to play them and he's almost certainly been elevated to come in if Dale doesn't come up (which seems likely).

Good luck to the boy, a well earned reward for recent form and I hope he takes his chance and does well.

We very rarely elevate a rookie without playing them that week or the week after.

I'd say we elevated him as there are doubts on Thomas and Medhurst.

Either way, we will know later today.

We may not actually.

I wouldn't be suprised to see the MacAff being named as an emergency and Thomas in the side. Apparently Thomas missed training yesterday and has a fitness test tomorrow. So he is likely to be named tonight before a decision is made later.

I'm hoping Thomas is ok though as he loves to play the Swans

Didn't we elevate Sharrod late last year & he didn't play?

Either way excited to see the Caff, hope he does play this week & bring in some of his hot form.

Very true re: Swans flooding back. I haven't seen him play but I'm guessing he's abit of a straight line runner and I can see his got some big guns ala Rusling. Anyone know if he can jump and take speckies though?
