Macca for the simple reason he can take a contested mark.

They each actually average about 1 contested mark per match. Certainly not a major difference between them.

Music to my ears !!!!!!!

It's good to see the board is still 2 years behind my thoughts !!!!!

But what is the point of calling Playfair a dud two years ago when he was still developing, and still is?

Imagine how many of the gun KPP wouldn't have made it if they were culled after a couple of years.

Nathan was barely getting a kick. It is no use teaching a guy by playing him in the ones without him getting near it. Only damages the confidence.

Don't have to play Nath every week but he is a prospect. He may not work out but there is some talent there to work with.

Playfair has had plenty of time to prove himself. He's had a good 5 years in the system and he is still soft, has no presence, can't take a contested mark, doesn't know when/where to lead, cant kick...

This totally ignores the woeful preparation he's had this year. This season is a write off for him because of it but he'll get another shot next year. The coaches recognise this but apparently many fans don't.

Took a few contested marks today, kicked a few goals.

So what?? He should be dominating in the 2's. Both him and Kingsley played today on smaller opponents who they would never get in the AFL. Playfair for me is a real dissapointment, and he will never be a great player.. Big call maybe... but the hunger and ability to really outbody opponents and attack situations with fierce intention is compulsory for a half forward... he aint got it, simple as that.
The dissapointing part is the guy has a great size/build for a half forward and is the reason the club is persisting. I hope he proves me wrong... not liking is chances though. :thumbsd:

"Henry Playfair is probably our most important player at the moment". Does anyone remember Bomber Thompson saying this?

No question we should keep Playfair. He was leading the league in contested marks up until ahe broke his jaw last year.

Give him a good preseason and I think he can be a good contributor. Will be tough to get a game next year with Hawkins, Mooney and Ottens playing forward. I rekon N.Ablett & Playfair should remain, McCarthy trade.

No argument there... Possibly a BIG reason why our forward line performs badly on a regular basis.

Has only been a 'regular' since 2005. Must persist....he is only 22.

It isn't?

I am not 100% sure because I was going off memory. Maybe it was regular marks? Isn't it true? I am sure he was right up their in one of the two

Not sure myself, but I know for fact that Big Bad Brad Ottens was leading the contested marking count for a while in 2005 before injury.

That sounds on the money....

Playfair first 9 rounds broke his jaw in rd 10 I think

1. 5 marks, 2 contested 2 goals
2. 1 mark 0 contested 0 goals
3. 8 marks 2 contested 0 goals
4. 8 marks, 2 contested 2 goals
5. 5 marks, 2 contested 1 goal
6. 2 marks, 0 contested 0 goals
7. 3 marks, 1 contested, 1 goal
8. 10 marks, 2 contested, 0 goals
9. 8 marks, 3 contested 3 goals

Total 50 marks 14 contested 9 goals

Total
Ottens First 9 rounds
1. 5 marks, 1 contested, 3 goals
2. 5 marks, 1 contested 0 goal
3. 1 mark, 0 contested 0 goals
4. 8 marks, 1 contested 2 goals
5. 8 marks, 4 contested 3 goals
6. 6 marks, 2 contested, 2 goals
7. 3 marks, 1 contested 2 goals
8. 5 marks, 1 contested 3 goals
9. 4 marks 4 contested, 1 goal

45 marks 15 contested 18 goals

Was outmarking Ottens, pretty even for contested. Probably wasn't leading but would of been right up there in terms of marks at this stage of the year. 5.6 marks, 1 goal per game. Would definately consider that a good effort!! Also had good form in NAB cup. That was the last time he was injury free.

H missed most of the nab cup with injury so that's not quite true.

If McCarthy has a bad one today against the roos he's goneski.

Again this was off memory. I was basing that off my memory off Bomber Thompson saying before the regular season started that Playfair had improved enormously and was a player to watch. Maybe it was just in practice matches.
