At the risk of sounding bias I will start by saying that in no way am I implying he has the best voice but it is fair to say he is at least one of rocks most versatile vocalists over his career, those who can't come to that conclusion, need to listen to a wider variety of his many stylings.

Which songs do you think are his finest vocally? List a few.

Heres a few and why.....

Golden Slumbers: in one line his voice changes from sweet lullaby to a gravelly roar and back again

Long Tall Sally: Paul doing Little Richard.

Baby Face: he did a cover of this with Wings and goes from a north english showhall voice to a black South American jazz voice.

Blue Jean Bop: in 1999 he did a rock and roll covers album and this one is a must listen.

Maybe Im Amazed, his emotional best.

So Bad: many people i have heard thought this was a school girl singing, a fine falsetto.

After The Ball: Pauls best gospel effort

Helter Skelter and Blackbird on one album says alot.

You Gave Me The Answer: you'd never guess that was him, sounds like a 40's showhall singer

Arrow Through Me: great r and b soul effort.

Call Me Back Again: eat your heart out Wilson Pickett.

To list a few of my vocal faves

I think you pointed to some of his best vocal performances there.

Oh Darling is also a classic vocal performance.

For mine, it is hard to go past the whole second side of Abbey Road - including golden slumbers- i think his vocals on that was faultless.

Arrow Thru me... a unknown mccartney classic pop song. i like that one a lot.

Macca wasnt a great screamer but on occassions he was able to belt it out with the best of them

Maybe I'm Amazed - one of his finest solo songs
Hey Jude - overrated song but his screaming in the chorus is the highlight
Get Back, Rock Show, Magneto and Titaneum Man, and Beware My Love were also great belters

For him more melodic voice, look no further than
Blackbird
Listen To What The Man Said
Two Of Us
and the underrated Silly Love Songs. Daggy song but great vocals.

great responses guys.

harmsey, what did you think of some of his vocals on off the ground album? biker like an icon and his effort on c'mon people which is spine tingling.

Also recently there was a tribute album put out for Ian Dury with Paul belting out a hilarious cover of the song "Partial To Your Abracadabra"

The Superbowl, Live 8 are both good examples that show his voice holds up very well live after all these years. To think he debuted Helter Skelter live when he was 62 :thumbsu:

Gilmour's voice was better than Paul's at live 8, especially during Money.
Gilmour doesnt sing, he just talks along in time with the bass riff. Good voice but not really a singer.

yeah, I always knew Dave could sing well as my fave singer in Floyd and his remarkable performance during Live 8. Then again he sung different songs than Paul did. It is safe to say both are great singers to this day, then, funny how threads change direction after a few posts.

Was it Dave who was singing those crazy "hey jud-e jud-e judejude wah ha yeah!!!" during "na na na na" part of Hey Jude?

Dave and Paul have worked together, he played lead guitar in Maccas Run Devil Run band and contributed the best guitar solo in a macca song, No More Lonely Nights

Materamagic, funny you should say you like biker like an icon. A friend of mine who buys everything that macca has released (even yellow picture disc records of rupert and frog chorus etc) really likes that song. It sounds like you have a similar level of passion to him. Only the hardcore macca fans like that song. I must be one level down in terms of passion to you guys cause for me the lyrics make me cringe a bit.

I like the last 2 songs on Off the ground. Can't remember the name of them off the top of my head.

I like Ian Dury a lot and haven't heard that song - i will have to track it down.
Live 8 - yes, good version of helter skelter. I suppose in many ways little richard was his vocal inspiration... both singers had an enormous range.

nah with biker you listen on a decent stereo for his bass playing and vocals, the music just has a good chugging vibe to it, the vocals are no masterpiece but its interesting.

go on amazon and look up the ian dury tribute cd and listen to a clip, you cant go wrong
