It's not like that was a borderline high tackle on Bodey. There was no debate about it, it was blatant, and high tackles like that are always paid regardless of what stage the game is at, or where on the field it takes place. Well I thought they were......

If you're suggesting the umps put the whistle away because it was a tight, tough game, then why did Tarrant get paid the most soft-**** free you're ever likely to see, within scoring range?

It wasn't the worst umpiring I've ever seen, but it wasn't good. Not by a long way.

Bode was lying on the ground at the time of his free kick claim. High tackles are often overlooked in this situation, when it is a mass of arms and legs. Not sure why that is but I certainly wasn't expecting a free kick.

The Tarrant one is a free kick every day of the week. Contact from the front has been probably the only free kick in the rule book that the umpires have been consistent on this season. Anyone who booed that decision (and meant it) should be forced to sit with the people who bellow "MAN UP!!!" when we allow the opposition a short, indirect chip sideways to a loose player.

Good work :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

looking at your performance on this thread, it's quite funny watching you snivelling on the back foot and getting all precious. good times :)

but if you want to actually defend the point I brought up - you know, in the way you accuse others of not doing, feel free.

otherwise, wear it on the chin.

My "less excitable other half" just about had to get me in a headlock last night to stop me from standing up and having a go at the fruitloop behind me for exactly the same thing.....:o

MD - I hope you didn't appeal to Matt Stevic for help. You could have been blue in the face from the headlock (particularly if the frootloop jumped in and grabbed you high as well) and he would have called for a bounce ;)

I disagree with you on both of those points.

The high tackle on Bodey was extremely obvious, clearly high and should have been paid.

And even a Melbourne newspaper thinks the Tarrant one was dodgy, which it clearly was.

Collingwood's Tarrant had the chance to pinch victory with a minute remaining when he received a dubious free kick, but his 55-metre punt failed to make the distance by centimetres, and Adelaide clung on under stress.

I am not saying we are in turmoil but I simply answered the question why Neil Craig was under siege.

What would happen if we fail again?

NC job is as safe as houses but that’s why he it could be perceived that he is under siege not to keep his job but to make sure his playing group achieve the ultimate reward for the hard work this season.

Answer this Mad Dog, what sort of ramification could we expect from the media, fans and other clubs if we lose a home final this year? Anything, going by past performances we will be getting a truck load of choking abuse and articles about Neil Craig inability to win finals.

That will be 2 year in a row that we have finished top (looking highly likely at this stage) and nothing to show for it. Is it the players who didn’t finish of the hard work from the season or the coach?

Do we stick with the same playing group that have failed in the past 2 year to reach the top of the mountain or do we take a few step back and introduce a new group of player (Douglas, Knights, Maric, Vince, ect) who can give us longevity at the top?

Honestly, who gives a **** what other people think?

IF we DON'T succeed in the finals, the club will no doubt review ALL aspects of the team... coaches, players, the lot. IF we DO succeed, the club will no doubt review ALL aspects of the team... coaches, players, the lot. It's called RUNNING A FOOTY CLUB. It's what they do. For a living.

We are supporters who will be disappointed if we don't succeed and ecstatic if we do. Do we really care what other supporters or the media think?

You booed huh? So did 40 odd thousand others I guess... ;)

Were you actually disagreeing with the decision or having a flashback to the nightmare of 2003 (or was it 2004?) when Tarrant slotted a match-winning goal from that pocket?

Ummm no, I didn't boo... but I do yell out "man up" an awful lot!:o :D

But I have to say... I WAS having a flash back of that game because all you buggers had been talking about it in here... I got this really bad sense of dejavu! I thought the free kick was there... soft, but there. Wouldn't have minded so much if the ones to Hentschell and Bode had been paid earlier.

And if I HAD boo'd, nobody would have heard me in my lounge room! :D

I was sitting right in front of Tarrant and it actually was a pretty good kick off the boot. Looked very good, heading stright through the middle, that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach...

Just faded in its last 10 metres or so, thank goodness :thumbsu:

Its actually got more to it than that.

Stevens jumped up at Tarrants kick and Number 15 for Collingwood stayed down and gave Stevens an almighty shove in the back pushing him way out of the contest.Mr Goldspink had a clear view and could not miss it.:thumbsd:

Mr Goldspink murdered us all night.:(

My favourite is the sarcastic cheers when we do get itchy feet and bomb it long when we're being flooded - then the inevitable groans and grumbles when we turn it over.

"Well, you bloody (usually upgraded if the weather is poor) asked for it!"
We had a classic on Sat night. The idiots in the row behind me were yelling at the players to bomb it in long; myself and a couple of people next to me said to each other loudly "don't be stupid, Collingwood are flooding, bombing it in is the last thing we should do".

Then about 20 minutes later we bombed it in, Hentschel was monstered out of the contest (no free kick  ) and the ball came straight back out.

And the comment from behind us?

"Awwww, don't bomb it in, you see what happens?"

No, really. That's what happened. Row U, seats 43-46 cracked up :D

No doubt. That doesn't mean the umpiring wasn't pretty shoddy though.

But I admit I was pretty bloody angry on Saturday night, and maybe my judgement was warped a bit :) I don't know why (I was so angry), partly it was frustration that we were unable to break Collingwood down the way we did it to the Kangas, but mostly I think it was that from about half way through the first quarter it became apparent that Collingwood had not come to play football, and we were in for another terrible game because of an opposition who were afraid to face us. And as I said on my rant on the main board, I wasted 1/11 of my season ticket and 3 hours of my life watching that crap.

Was Adelaide responsible for some of that? Yes, we were. But nowhere near as much as some people, including McDermott, would have us believe. We were just trying to deal with the negative crap that Collingwood served up.*

The fact that we didn't deal all that well, and in particular that we didn't get sucked in to bombing the ball long into a 16-on-16 marking contest  doesn't make us responsible for the standard of the game.

*PS did anyone notice the Paddock that Craig tried to set up, during the third quarter I think it was most noticeable? The forwards all moved out to the front of the 50 and we tried to kick it over them and get them running on to it. Didn't really come off but it was interesting to watch.

That was one of the first noticeable tactic I saw NC instigate when he took over. Kicking the ball over the players head if he was manned up and back the player to get to the ball first. ( its easier to make that first 2 second reaction if you know the drill)

OK, I know you can't thump a long kick into the forward line when there is flooding going on BUT there are times when I think you just have to go for it.

Malcolm Blight on Fox was calling for the bomb a few times and lo and behold when the Roo went for it Trent marked and goaled.
