McDonald to Retire

Well done on a great 250 game career Jimmy. Still remember listening to his first game against Carlton.

Amen to that Brother.

Junior's been a great captain as well as a consistent performer over a long period, and has certainly always set an excellent example for the team.

I would've liked to see him last into next year too, but such is life...

I still think he should have gone on for another year. From what I hear his leadership is sensational and all of the younger guys really consider him approachable.
The other thing is if a guy can get 27 possessions (He never picks up many cheap ones either) and 10+ tackles in his 2nd last game, that tells me he could go around another year

I will have been at his first and last game, which is definitely a first for me for any past Melbourne player. He and Doggy Brown won us the game that day.

Yeah, I agrre with you, and it is obviously just a list management/financially motivated decision by the club.

Would have liked him to stay on another year to help the young midfielders develop, particularly to develop their defensive game, and I reckon he should have passed the captaincy on or had a joint-captaincy for a year.

Nonethless, I really hope he stays on at the club and stays involved with the young mids.
