In my opinion I think McDouglall was a tad to soft.

But I think the Doggies style of play will help him. Once he gets on the lead he should be taking alot of marks.

Doogs is very prone to injury, it would be nice to see him stand up for the whole season because he has heaps of talent....good luck to him & the Dogs EXCEPT against the Eagles of course:)

He needs to avoid injury. He needs the ball kicked to him by his teammates rather than over his head when he makes a lead and he needs to convert more of his chances. My "Inside Football" from the first round of the NAB cup credits him with 14 kicks, 9 marks but only 1goal 2 behinds in the "score" column.

In the 2 times i have seen Doogs i must say i have been impressed. He has led well and marked well. I have been very impressed by his agility for a big man. He has chased and tackled well. It is still very early to judge but he has given himself a great opportunity to play round 1. :thumbsu:

To me how McDougall goes depends on Darcy, and what the Bulldogs want from him.

If Darcy can stand up and hold down FF, and between Murphy and Johnson they have that leading forward spot taken care of, they can play McDougall as a third marking forward and he may well stretch teams.

If the Bulldogs are worried about Darcy's knee, or want to slot McDougall in as the FF to release Johnson to the midfield, then he will be matched up against the likes of Glass, Scarlett, McPharlin, Michael etc and one would imagine he'll struggle.

Yep, as a third tall he could definately play well. Always had a bit of ability, even in the Collingwood game he played last year he didnt actually play to badly as the 2nd/3rd tall. Of course being the biased person I am, the great Glass would beat him every time though

As Eagles fans you surely remember the half of football that he smashed Mal Michael?

4 goals in a half of football as a 20(?) year old.

He has got the potential to hold FF. Has he got the minerals?

As has been said repeatedly. Has all the ability in the world, it's just the mental aspects that get him.

Eg. He's far more naturally gifted then Lynch, but Q put in as hard as he could, and now look at him. Had Doogs done the same, I highly doubt he'd be at the Dogs now.

What's interesting to me is that on the bulldogs board you can read about Doogs actually working hard. I can't remember the last time anyone here actually said he looked like he was working hard; at best people would defend the way he seemed to look like he didn't care.

I'm going to have a good time keeping my eye on Doogs this year.

hmm, I dont know about 'work hard' but he seems to butter up well for a big guy. making some 2nd and 3rd eforts. Looks to be a crap kick for goal from what I have seen, but maybe nerves.

eade will want him to cover a lot of ground and just keep presenting across half forward. will also want him to chase and tackle as much as possible. dunno yet if he is capable of turning marks acorss half forward into goal assists.

We have murph coming back from injury (CHF) and darce too (FF) so his position is by no means assured just because he is tall. he will have to earn it.

I remember just before we traded him he made comments along the lines of "football will never be my #1 priority. Some guys live and breath football, but thats not me. I have other interests". Unfortunately, when it comes to top level sports, you either commit yourself 100% or have a very short and unfulfilled career.

Mentally he's just not committed to the job.

Eade is the person to help combat that though - at least get him to learn his trade a bit more. You don't have to live and breathe football to be a great player - you can have other interests. You just have to work hard on your game, knowing the game plan and all the rest of it.
