Bullshit

Trump will be president and he will make Richmond great again

We used to win, but we dont win any more. Trump will make us win so much it will be boring

The mcg has been flooded with pies supporters, who are criminals and rapists, although some of them are good people. He will build a wall around the g and make eddie pay for it

Like Alan Bond did.

Sombrero roof?

Isn't it a drop in pitch now?

Yes it is, and I presume that, like at Etihad, the roof would be open most of the time to keep the grass healthy.

Wet weather football isn't exactly good to watch.

I think given that grounds have great drainage these days and rainy games are fairly rare, it's okay on the odd occasion.

No chance does it get a roof without needing to be completely rebuilt which won't be needed for another 20 years.

It would probably be more cost effective to start from scratch than add a roof to the MCG as is. The roof is always the most expensive part of a stadium and brings in a lot less revenue than it costs in most cases. (For example, a roof is really only useful 20% of the time (max) and might then only stop 20% of people from not attending.) So it's fan/revenue neutral but costs a hell of a lot.

Whereas spending more money on more seats generally means more revenue.

I reckon the MCG has just about topped out in terms of expansion, can't really add many more seats, and a roof would be too costly. I think more periphery investments is all they could look at, restaurants, drinks etc, things like the museum being expanded to make more non-matchday revenue.

Nope... Leave it as is... No need to change what is already the best stadium in the world!
Really? Not even close. It's big, true, but far from the best.

Really? Im not sure it's the best in Australia let alone the world. It's looking dated these days, sure it was world class in the 70's but lets not say it's still up there today.

World class in the 70's?
Apart from the Ponsford (that only had 2 rows of seats on the bottom deck of the public section - the rest was standing) the other stands were at least 20 years old. Northern 1950's, Southern Stand 1930's. MCC Members 1920's. No ramps to the top and had was like climbing Everest to reach the top.
Most of the outer was standing room and all the seats were timber benches (look out in a final if you got a fat arse next to you) and no corporate facilities (not that I get to do Corporate very often).
The internal walkways were narrow and a crush always developed after a game.
The ground itself was like a bog in the middle of winter and that often carried into the finals.
Was certainly iconic but not World Class in the 70's.

As for looking dated these days? Are you serious? The stands there now were opened in 1992 & 2006 and several internal renovations have been carried out in the Southern in recent years.

prefer the docklands to watch footy - and the amenities are better. The G is a relic with a 1000 makeovers.

I'm in the don't think it's needed camp but would be interested in a big crowd with a closed roof. I think Sav Rocca has previously commented on the noise playing at the MCG versus some of the closed roof NFL stadiums, he's obviously played in front of some pretty big AFL crowds. He mentioned that the NFL stadiums were louder as the sound didn't escape like the MCG. A 100,000 crowd with no sound escaping could be amazing.

Why are pansies so scared of a little rain these days?
IT's those damned hipsters, they are worried about getting their skinny jeans off if they are wet

Wait for VR to advance and put hem in a VR centre where it stays dry and comfortable. They can even pretend its at night!
