The last two games at the MCG have seen sides slipping and sliding all over the joint. Honestly it is not up to scratch for an AFL standard ground as it stands. The product is poor and player safety is in question. Surely the MCG cannot host the grand final if the ground is in this sort of state.

By no means an excuse for the insipid performance from the Blues last night but I did notice the surface was absolutely awful. The patch out front of the interchange bench was like a slip and slide.

It's a good excuse though

It’s very strange, it’s been hit and dry for the most part down here (I work a few blocks from the ground). There was a small storm the other day, but that doesn’t account for it

It seems it's been warmer & humid than usual for March which probably makes it more dewy than normal.
It will dry out more in the winter months and you should see less slipping over from players.

I am not entirely convinced about it though the better players seem to be keeping their feet.

Big chunks coming up with no roots ?
Looks like patches are freshly laid roll out almost ?
They did do a near-complete resurface of the ground just a few weeks back. The centre square obviously gets done every year when the drop-in cricket pitches get removed.
But its quite likely just the dew, if its been more humid than normal.

You realise the grand final is in September? If there is a problem with the surface, surely it gets fixed quickly.
