Well we’ll never find out until they do it, will we. If the people of Perth want a GF, I suggest they lobby their government to build a new stadium that’s big enough.
Any government that built a stadium for an event that isnt even tendered are fkkn idiots

You come across as one for even suggesting it.

Do you build the olympic village and all the stadia in the hope of getting an olympics - or do you develop a plan - have the stadia you intend to build rough designed - and in your bid show the designs.?

Then when you win you build it

Perth stadium is designed to be able to be expanded to a larger than whats required for world cup or superbowl standards

If there would have been a bidding in 2032 we could have built it - the plans are already there.

Thats how sport works mate - the bid goes in - the extra stadiums get built

What the WA government should have done was approach the AFL and make an actual deal. Give it a timeframe, certain guides etc. If the AFL straight up turn them down, then you have a case to argue.

Aside from that, put yourself in the AFLs shoes.
There is unlikely to be a stadium built that tops Perth Stadium in the next 39 years. And clearly, Perth Stadium is not enough for a Grand Final
Nothing is likely to change in that period
Would you rather wait for 20 years to make a new deal in the unlikely event another stadium gets built which can form the other side of a bidding war?
Or make a deal now that ensures funding to improve the match day experience now?

Likewise I guess the interstaters will be insisting the grand final be played at Etihad if they are the lower ranked team and have to play one of the Etihad tenants in the granny.

Somehow I think they won't be so strident about oval size and home ground advantage all of a sudden. More like want a better chance of getting a ticket at the bigger ground.
Exactly, that’s how we know the interstate fans are full of s****

Explain it to me. How is having 40k less people go to the game a good thing?
Ill get you to take the example of the biggest sporting event in the world

They could play that game in the biggest stadium every wc - but they dont.

As its a world cup.

This is supposed to be a national sport.

Why should 25,000 MCG members be entitled to go to GF? And AFL members as well ? And nat cut rate prices . Cut them out and the GF gets 50,000 including corporates. At a 60,000 stadium, you give access to 10,000 extra actual football fans and by charging appropriately, any shortfall in money will be minimised. There also needs to be 4 Victorian teams deleted from league but that will never happen and the AFL will always only be VFL and pandering to Victorian interests

The MCC members I can't argue. But the AFL is always going to allow its own members to go to the biggest game, no matter where it is.

We will never get a decent say in this league

The fact that they have just given 2.4 billion worth of value to the victorian government for absolutely nothing shows once and for all that its a victorian sport run for the benefit of victorians.

Any other sporting event like this is used as a cash injection for the sport.

Fkkn amateurs

They play every game in the same country every year. Joke of a HGA if you ask me.

 Ok, I’ll take your word for it. Fair is fair. I’ll support us having at least the 1st 2 week of finals.
When your club moves interstate when you are a teenager, and all you wanted to do was go to the footy, and then for the next 36 years you are increasingly told that it is a national competition, to have the chiefs sign a deal in 2018 locking in a Melbourne GF to 2057 makes you question the narrative.

Im an Eagles fan living in SA. Ive always said the GF should be at the MCG. If you're good enough on the day you'll win.

Personally wouldnt feel the same if it was at Adelaide Oval or Optus Stadium.

It would feel NAB Cuppy to me.

When the NAB Cup (or whatever it was called back then) GF started moving away from Waverley/Etihad eben that felt weird... something about a GF @ AAMI Stadium felt wrong.

I think you will find the most support geelong get for holding finals is from the interstaters.
What we hate is being the only ones who have to go there.

One in all in.

We are there for the footy rights money - nothing else.

Thats all they require or want from us - as for the rest - go ead - its the vfl

If they could get the same sort of money without us wed be gone next season.

Yes, i'd rather wait 15-20 years so a bidding war can happen between the current stadiums so the AFL gets a much much better deal. With the rate technology is advancing, it could be a completely different landscape and the AFL has just bent over for bugger all when there was no hurry.

I can only see two reasons for extending a 20 year deal by another 20.

1 - AFL is not national at all and they have no desire to have a fair and equitable sport or ever even consider moving the GF for any reason.
2 - The AFL is petrified about other sports or entertainment events that might take the GF off their hands and out of Melbourne if they don't lock it away.

Either option is weak from the current commission and they have clearly opted not to put their head over the ball.

It's appearing that way.

It's looking more and more like the Vic Govt shit the bed with new developments happening in SA, WA and possibly NSW. The MCC jumped on this by promising upgrades that won't even start for at least a decade. The AFL then sold out the national competition to those parties for a really average at best deal.
