Try paying more attention then. It was raised in 15 when the Hawks hosted the Eagles despite finishing lower. It was raised again in 16 when the Bulldogs "kinda" hosted the Swans despite finishing lower. And then again in 17 when Richmond hosted despite finishing lower.
The game has been set at the MCG forever. Richmond didnt "host" as such. Its not as if the venue wasnt decided and they suddenly put it at the G. Its got nothing to do with higher or lower. That is not a construct of our Grand Final, like the FA cup at Wembley for example.

It's got everything to do with higher or lower. This whole debate is centred around the fact that Melbourne teams get to host it even when they don't deserve it.
The game is preset whether it's two interstate teams or any other teams. There is no HOSTING grand final construct in our game based on ladder position. There is no more or less deserving, its the same as other preset venues in sports.

So if GWS finish higher in a season and make it, We should host the biggest sporting event in Australia each year at Spotless stadium ??

You interstate franchises keep forgetting, This is Our league and you will forever be the minority.

It was the VFL that you joined..

MCG is and forever will be the home of football

And unfortunately for the Eagles.. To win the flag.. That is where you have to win.. So Richmond look forward to seeing you there in September

And all the interstate teams seem to forget that during the home and away season you have a true dedicated home ground that gives you an edge, In Melbourne there is 10 or so teams sharing the 2 venues...So we dont get the home ground fortress like advantage that interstate teams get 11 odd times a year..

It sounds like Melbourne is a ... saturated market for AFL.

If only there was ways to grow the game interstate.

There are more interstate fans than fans in Victoria ... you're in the minority.

No it doesnt, we use a preset venue, like many soccer leagues, NFL, etc. Higher/lower doesnt come into it.

Yes other sports rotate, but that's not the same as a higher/lower concept.
Ok, show we should rotate then. That's what most people are suggesting anyway.

It should rotate around the current 4 major venues; Optus Stadium, Adelaide Oval, The MCG and ANZ stadium. If Queensland invests in a stadium it should also be added. Tasmania too. A commitment like this from the AFL would probably lead to further upgrades to Adelaide Oval's capacity as well.

Reward the right to host for state investment in stadium infrastructure. A great way to grow the game and cement the AFL as the number 1 sport ever to be played by humans.

A terrible business decision was made to sign a 40 year contract.

The decision was made by Victorians for Victorians.

Why is that a requirement? Not even the SuperBowl is held at 100k stadiums every year despite having plenty of them across the US.
80k is a decent enough number and it should be rotated superbowl style.

But you also need a decent enough airport to handle the influx of people that a gf brings, Perth and adelaide do not have that.

What is everyones solutions then? How would you determine where the GF is played?
Rotating yearly between states each year. Announced 5 years in advance. If a team makes it and it happens to be their home ground it's pure luck

Its rather cute how after today this has become a real sore point fot eagles fans.. They had a good win and now they feel they are on their way to the GF and have realised its not in Perth . So time to complain, I wonder if they would be so annoyed if they were outside the top 8
