Frankie and Thomo are pinch hitters for us now. Both have shown they can play this role and play it well. I'm not sure if McGough would change this role, but he provides extra depth and could see more playing time than those two.
Powell and Harvey will assume the "pinch hitter" role, leaving a vacancy or two in the midfield. McGough is good enough to at least put his hand up for a role there, competing with Fiora, Clarke, Goddard, etc

just remember spriggs had a knee reco, and in his second season after that he was trying to break into a midfield that contained ling, bartel, kelly, moloney, corey, etc, which would have been tough, there were plenty ahead of him. this did not effect the fact he could not kick. but at carlton, maybe worth a shot.

The midfield rotations at the Saints can contain up to a dozen players in any given game. McGough no doubt will add depth to that but he'll need to be able to play off the ball to keep a spot in the 22. Powell, Harv's and Thomo are the exception and are rotated off the bench more. I guess McGough's first role would be to provide backup to these guys, but if he can play positions other than on the ball he could work his way into the 22 on his own merits. Not entirely convinced about that though.

Carlton could do with some speed.

Seems that having the ability to kick the ball isn't necessary when being drafted at Carlton.

Knobel and a couple of Irish kids probably make Sprigg's skills look first class.

Spriggs will probably be taken by Carlton where he has been training the house down. His Wizard cup form would have put a few clubs off when he was dragged for not going in for the ball hard enough and putting in the short steps.
McGough is a reasonable footballer but lacks the class to make up for his lack of pace. I wouldnt want either of them at the Roos but both will find new clubs IMO.

I hope we pick him up, we need any speed we can get - but not the Angwin kind you can buy in Lygon St. :D
