Still question marks on Lynch, JJ and Tex in big finals imo. I can't believe how easily people are willing to accept/justify Gov leaving. Its irritating.

Were avearging over 20 goals a game Im pretty sure its not the forward line that is holding us back if anything, its as good as its gunna get

In the majority of the games we have lost in the last 18 months we have kicked scores between 55-82 points. This is around half a dozen occasions. There are massive questions on our forward line if they are not getting silver service from the half back line.

Edit: Correction 55-86 points

gov is crucial for us. he is a x factor player with his leap and remember the round 1 dribbler goal against gws. if we are going to do a trade with the eagles, we must get dom sheed or maybe gaff with a swap of draft picks. we cannot afford to bend over and just get given a second or even a late first.

Newcastle, Colorado Rockies.
It has slowed down when teams get on top of us and clog our defence, he's the perfect foil for that with his marking and crashing of packs.

It's up to the club to keep its elite talent and add to it, not keep losing players.
Whilst I agree that there are times it does become vital, we do also desperately need another ready made gun midfielder in our ranks.

He's probably the best piece to get that player as well, as much as I reckon he'd be a star in the long run.

(That's the only time I'm ok with losing Gov, any other scenario can go and get ******).

Lets not do any deal with WCE and pony up whatever its going to cost to keep Gov here.

That is because we don't have a contested mark other than Gov. Anyone that is willing to let gov go without exploring every conceivable option, even if it's only for an additional year has not felt the pain of not winning a flag for 20 years. This talk of Kelly coming here is quite frankly delusional. About as likely as Dangerfield coming back to west lakes.

Tex has shown he is a massive big game player.
Semi final against freo at aami he not only dragged us back in to the game but also won it.
BOG in the elimination final against the dogs 2 years ago.
Kicked big goals in the final against hawks in 2012 prelim and in more recent times was close to BOG in the showdown this year. Loves the big stage and big moments.
JJ has had some good and poor finals. Did kick 5 in the losing semi against hawks.
Haven't noticed lynch in finals so fair point, but we could easily say that about most players when we play shocking in finals.

I agree we have to keep Gov and Lever at pretty much all costs. This year should be especially easy to find room for them as they will be among the first on the increased TPP. As for Josh Kelly coming here, if that were actually a possibility, I dont see why it has to involve Gov/Lever. The player seems to have most of the power in these trades, so in the unlikely event that Kelly did nominate us, then GWS would more than likely accept this years and next years first.

Paying Gov more than any other forward and probably paying him just shy of what Sloane makes is an issue.
Ahh, this is the moment where we put or playing culture to the test. Do we have great camaraderie and sense of purpose or are we a group of mercenaries ?

Probably a little from column a, a little from column b.

Your missing the point. When was the last time Jenkins and Walker ripped a game apart with contested marking crashing packs? The only player I can remember crashing packs with a real contested mark is MM.

I don't agree Tex has been reliable in finals. Hes like a box of chocolates. If he played his best possible football from now until GF day, we would win the flag and he would kick 80 goals this year. But nobody expects him to deliver on that talent, which is the problem. I have next to no confidence that JJ and Lynch will dominate a prelim or grand final. It will be a pure bonus if that happens. Nothing to suggest that Gov is going to go to this next level, but its laughable that people use our performances on flat tracks to suggest our forward line is set without Gov.

Did that happen in last years GF? Or was it the fast movement across the ground? When was the last time that a pack crashing forward won a GF?

So Freo are going to have to pay over a mill to keep Fyfe, they have brought in a raft of other players on good coin and can offer more than we can to Gov when we dont have any 800k per year players on our list.
With all the buying Collingwood have done they still are offering big coin to Schache.
Why are we the only club without big money to keep or poach players? Do we have a smaller cap than everyone else?
We had at least $500k for Gibbs laying around.

Gov is one of our quickest movers across the ground. He is the perfect modern forward prototype. He cracks in hard. He finishes well and his giant leap combined with the timing of his jump makes him one of the most exciting marks in the AFL. There are few players like him in the league which is why both WA clubs are so keen on him.

Who are Freo paying?

Why would we pay a third forward over $600k? He is a great player but the reality is he plays a position we are strong in. Otten is doing the same job and will play for peanuts.

And I woukd much rather spend that in a blue chip mid and not to mention the club Lever will command.

With a tank I reckon he'll be a third forward who will rack up 20-25 touches week in week out. He'll also close down opposition players trying to exit our attack with the ball. Otto won't be doing either of this things. Gov is about 20 games in and is already where Otto is. Madness to think he won't end up being significantly better with bus physical make up.

Agreed, our forward line is exposed in the air without Gov. Especially in finals where kicks into the 50 are more rushed, we need a bail out option in the forward line when the ball is bombed in long. McGovern was brilliant at this in the first few rounds this season and is our only player capable of performing this role.

Not to mention he's our best defensive key forward by an absolute mile.

We need to keep him.

Midfield is priority for West coast but i could see us willing to involve luke Partington in a deal. He isnt too far away from our squad and already averaging 29 dispsals this season for East Perth. At the moment his slight frame and defensive game probably has held him back from a debut. That said he isnt that far off. Its possible come trade period he might just put his hand up to move back home.

Gov is going to be a much better player in 2 years than he is right now. He will be far more than a 3rd tall. It wont be long until Gov will be able to do Lynch's role with far more damage. He will do JJs forward role better as well.

Yes, but I am not expecting him to have put it all together yet. This was his second season of AFL until he got injured. How exactly do you imagine the progression of a future $700k to $800k/year key forward should look in his second year of footy? Its pretty much exactly how Gov was tracking. And once you let them go to another club, they are gone for good. No second chances. If you have to pay overs to keep a guy like Gov then you do it.

Sorry but we've already fallen for the Dean Gore trick once.

Sheed would be who I'd want.
