For us it's a combination of bad luck and poor club management. The clubs better image and player closeness is only just over 12 months old. I think we need to draw a line in the sand after the loss of Dangerfield to symbolise the end of the old poor Trigg and Sando era and use 2015 as a club cultural rebuild around Walsh and 2016 was this start of a new exciting era that the players seem interested in being a part of. If more players walk out it means we still have issues that the club has yet to identify.

Agreed.

With West Coast fans so big on Mitch, and wanting to see him play alongside his brother, we should be looking to improve our side where possible. The whisper is Gaff could be on the move. He is an elite user and decision maker with ball in hand. Great accumulator, but as outside as they come. I think he could be a great fit for us. Plausible ??

Gaff wanted a longer contract last year but club wasn't sure with all the CBA. If he leaves it's back home to Melbourne. Also if your refering to the tweet that was posted on our board, it's from a dud Twitter account.

Just like Mitch Clarke went home to Fremantle? Or Tippett went home to Sydney?

Money and the chance of premiership success can make players change their minds pretty quickly.

Carlton apparently into hopper and gov in a big way. Hope the club isn't even considering a gov for gibbs swap. Would be going after hopper ourselves and 2 first round picks for gov after the shit they pulled last year. Or a gov for cripps swap would be fair. Really get the feeling he is definitely gone now. Let's get the best deal for him.

Gibson is no great loss, is a hot head imo. I would say that the club weren't overly fussed about her leaving.

No, I wasn't referring to anything specifically, just that Gaff was potentially leaving, and that he would complement our very much inside midfield very well. I understand he is from Melbourne, but stranger things have happened. For interests sake, what did the tweet say ??

Weren't you the guy that compared McGovern to Buddy Franklin earlier?

Now you're suggesting an uncontracted McGovern swap for Patrick Cripps??

There is a word for this : Delusional.

Gaff's not the FigJam type like a tippet. From day one he has said he wants to be a one club sort of player but every time he is uncontracted theres huge pull to go back to melbourne.
To be honest there haven't many significant interstate player resisting the urge to move home and moving to Adelaide. Betts lived a fair chunck in Adelaide and was a crows fan, Dixon moved to Port but had the hinkley connection and Ryder just wanted to get out of essendon. The fact is both WA and SA clubs will struggle to pull significant Vic player.

West Coast seem to have more luck than Freo. The only one that Freo have got recently is Cam McCarthy and it still took 2 years to get him there, even though he wanted to go to Freo! :)

Kersten, Brad Hill and Hamling dont count? Before that Bennell, Danyle pearce.. and erm Dawson. Freo were heavily focused on the draft. Went after vics that were pie in the sky stuff, and learnt their lesson. Went for locals.

I think there is an issue at our club with retention that we need to address or we will never be the powerhouse we have the potential to be.
-No other club has lost as much top end talent as us in the last 10 years.
-We can't blame the expansion clubs as only a us the bulldogs lost high end talent to BOTH clubs, in sure they approached players from all teams who turned them down.
-We can't blame go home factor. Can't remember the last time a Port player wanted to leave and did to go home since nick stevens. Travis Boak had every reason to leave to go back to geelong and stayed at a team getting belted and playing infront of 18,000 people weekly. Yet stayed. Danger leaving was the worse kept secret in the AFL for 18months
-Adelaide the city? Once again Port landed 2 big recruits in consecutive off seasons. Our last major recruit was betts, whom at the time we all thought we were over paying and he even said publicly he wanted to stay at Carlton.
I Understand that the hawks lost buddy and geelong lost GAJ and eagles lost Judd but none of them have lost multiple high end talent the way we have.
I'm sure many people will make excuses for all of these points and etc that's just the way Big footy works but if we once again loose a player that we want to keep badly and rate as highly as we do we will once again be resigned to being a feeder clud not a destination club.

I was talking about interstate talent. Both Freo/Eagles and Crows/power can lure homegrown talent home but its a challenge luring quiality interstate players. Eagles last three interstate recruits in redden/giles/vardy are not special talent. Vardy and giles went due to money and/or opportunity. Redden could be excused but when he left he wasn't still the redden of few seasons ago. I still hold hope for redden but he will never be a notable selection.

I had heard Redden went to Perth for the very reason that it was a place where he didn't have any connections.

Sometimes you realise the people in your life are very destructive or stifling. Maybe Redden felt he would benefit from being away from certain people or attractions
That was the rumour wasn't it? His group of friends in Adelaide are a bunch of lads (no one suggesting anything untoward, just like a beer or twelve) so he didn't want to be around that external influence.
