Another issue - remember this from last year at Optus stadium...

Yer... well about that... I didn't see any protective covering or a permanent solution to prevent injures from players crashing into the fence there. This is a perfect example of talk without action - the AFL has some responsibility here.

Can the AFL explain why there are chairs inside the fence along the boundary?

Why do people need to sit down on a chair to do their job?

If you can't stand up and do it get someone who can.

I made it very clear that there is a second action (the push). he would likely be fine if he stopped at the freeze frame you provided. Instead he decided to initiate a PUSH which is why he will be in trouble. There was no need for the push - he could have just bumped him as per your freeze frame and he would be fine. Don't try tell me that the bump and push are the same action - they are seperate. The BUMP is still not even in play - the PUSH is way over the line. I think my analysis of the situation is helpful because I have also provided previous incidents of similiar nature. This tells me that handing out fines are not enough. Hopefully Guelfi has no head damage because these types of events have potential for serious injury.

Open the other eye.

The action resulted in a handball down the line missing its target and going to an Eagles player.

Can you explain how both players can just pull up the micro second the boundary line is crossed?

Every game players can be outside the boundary and the ball inside and disposed of to advantage.

We are talking micro seconds and inches in play here.

The way you describe it it is like he crossed the line and Gov hit him after the ball was out of play more than a second late.

If they stand up they'll block spectators' views. A bit of a freak occurrence to get a severe injury from a plastic chair but I'm not sure there is a better alternative.

Gov pushes someone on the boundary, like happens in every game, player is hurt from contact with chair and fence.
Bellchambers get's Shuey in the head with his hip/bum in a dangerous bit of play but Shuey get's up and takes his kick.
Commentators can't wait to get Gov hung and quartered for causing Guelfi to be concussed, even though all footage and reports were about sore ribs.
Once again outcome trumps action.

The only reason he was injured was because that idiot guard didn't attempt to move. If he got off his arse the flimsy plastic chair would have gone flying instead of becoming an immoveable object under the guards full weight. But yeah the AFL will shift liaibility to the player operating in a legitimate footballing action.

Yet it clearly is.

No it clearly isn't.. Guelfi's foot is already past the line when McGovern actually makes contact with the BUMP. He then goes from the BUMP action to a PUSH action way past the boundary line. Absolutely unnecessary for him to turn the bump into a push considering how far over the boundary he was by then. This statement about hurting his neck also suggest high contact in the grading. See what the medical report says.

"He felt as if he'd hurt his back and neck in the crash, so they're just double-checking that so we can find out if he's OK to fly home.

The heel of his foot is still on the line in that very frame.

In this very sport a ball is only out of play if it's completely over the line. So not only is his foot not completely out of play it's not taking into account the rest of his body is in the field of play.

Very strange conclusion to draw from The Emu

Nothing in it unless your Damian Barret or Tony Browne.

Your photo doesn’t show the initial point of contact. If you go one frame back, gov is probably over a meter away from him

On one video, it appears to be one second, from when gov lands after a marking contest, until he makes ( and finishes making ) contact with the Essendon player,

Based on the injury alone, I'm sure that dickhead Michael Christian will give him a charity week to appease the concussion justice warriors

I thought the onus was on the tackler, to, um, tackle?

As soon as you elect not to tackle you're opening yourself up

Anywhere esle on the field this would likely be a non-issue, but because he got pushed over the line and in to the fence, it looks much worse than it is. And the MRP care about the look and the outcome, so he will probably get a little holiday.

It's not a good look when players get shoved over the boundary line

The news this morning was Guelfi has suspected broken ribs .Nothing about concussion or head or neck injurys reported.
Rib injurys from colission with security on chair most likely.

Have you ever been on a sports field in your life? Running full pace, he's committed to trying to affect the play, and Guelfi disposes of the ball fractionally before he gets there. We are talking milliseconds here. Is Gov meant to magically come to a complete stop? Is he meant to only run around playing the game half-committed? Some really strange arguments coming from your side that really underappreciate the pace of a sports game, as shown by your efforts to LITERALLY pick out single frames from one of the fastest games on the planet. Bizarre.

Ah ok. He looked very proppy trying to get off the field, wouldn’t have thought that was for rib damage though

He could have pushed him over the line with less force, he pushed him with so much force it was inevitable he would collide with the fence or something else.

It might be a contact sport but players still have a duty of care to each other.
