Leaving in itself isn't proof of being all about yourself - maybe Jake is desperate to get home to family like Dangerfield was. It's true it means he isn't all about the Crows, but he might be all about family and other people he's close to, so we really can't judge him as a mercenary unless we know he is through other means. Sucks to lose a great player though - I get why you'd be pissed.
Just a couple of things he have said specifically seem to be about him and not the club which makes me think he's gone that's all. He said "It could be worse, I could have no clubs interested in me.." and he also said "My contract won't be a distraction for me I'm dedicated to performing for my club".. whilst that may be true and it may no be a distraction for him Taylor walker has admitted to talking to lever and trying to convince him to sign. If the club captain coming to you to talk about your contract leading in to a finals series where we finished top of the table doesn't indicate that you're contract is a distraction to the CLUB regardless of whether or not it affects him (recent form suggests it may be affecting him now as well) then I don't know what does.

Will Freo ever sign another big name forward. Its lucky they have Kersten.
I'm not sure MM would be any bigger a signing than McCarthy. Both look great as the 2nd/3rd tall but struggle/would struggle having to lead the line. If you can stack your forward line with enough of those types it works I guess, as only one of them can be held by the opposition's #1 KPD.

I would've liked MM if the price was right, but it's hard to begrudge players for staying loyal to their original clubs. We certainly know what it's like when you have vultures like the Saints supporters on here who constantly insist they're going to lure all your out of contract players back home.

Absolutely no idea. Heard earlier in the week on the radio graham cornes and rucci confirming that the crows went to McGovern at the start of the year and he was offered between 350-370k a yr for 2 years. LOL.

Can't blame him for stalling and wanting more or other clubs getting interested at that price.

Fair to say it has since gone up. My guess would be 550k a yr ? Just a random guess.. which would still be a pretty good deal for us I reckon.
Freo offered 650k for 5 they rumoured.

I think freo picked a bad time to cop consecutive hundred point floggings.

Part of the equation for McGovern is he's at a team which is clearly a happy place on and off field with a wide open premiership window.

Having not won a flag yet, it would be a very unusual decision for a player to take the money and leave. Most big ticket moves from power clubs (judd, ablett, franklin) only happen once the player has a premiership in the bag.

Not surprised. They need someone like him desperately. Freo Probably could of gone to the next level and offered 8 million for 10 years and maybe got it done. That's only an extra 150k a yr and you lock him away for life and may have been to good to refuse.

But given the way he spoke about the crows when he re signed I think he wasn't ever going anywhere as long as he got a fair deal from us. When Dangerfield re signed with is the last time he didn't speak like McGovern did, he was talking about repaying the faith and owing the club etc which is fair enough but probably a good indicator that he only stayed out of duty and once he felt like that was done was happy to get out of here. I think McGovern will be a crow for life now.

It's a fair question. I liked freo. Wanted them to win a premiership, but they couldn't even get an average forward like Cloke let alone a good one.

Any big forwards out of contract they could target now or are they stuffed again up forward next year?

You'd still hope Macarthy will come good. It's hard to predict the effect of a year off on a young player. Not entirely surprising he struggled to play out the full season well.

Yeah I saw him a bit differently to most. I didn't rate him at Gws like everyone else. Thought it was a flash in the pan type year. Like jack Anthony.. and I'm realising just now freo also picked up jack Anthony previously lol.

But I thought McCarthy has shown signs at freo and I may be wrong about him.. Maybe he can play. He still needs a key forward to work with. How Ballantyne still gets a game I can't figure out. Do freo supporters want Ballantyne delisted? He's cooked.

He was 19 the last time he played for us, had some stunning games early in 2015, his best against you guys, and lost form late. He was 21 this year and that's still very young for a KPF, particularly after a year off. Most worrying to me is he seemed to be a better shot for goal for us, but maybe that's just the cycles players go through.
I'd certainly wait and see how he goes next year. James Stewart is just now making it as an AFL player at 23, and that's not unusual for a tall.

Leaver's younger brother is in the crows development squad in the SANFL, so he does have some family here.

Tyson Lever
Height: 187cm Weight: 81kg
DOB: 19/10/98
Local club: Adelaide University

Strong midfielder who is a younger brother of Crows defender Jake Lever. Placed fifth in the Calder Cannons' best and fairest and won the side's ‘Team Targets’ award last year in the TAC Cup. Served as stand-in captain for the Cannons on several occasions and played a senior VFL match for Coburg late in the year.

So Adelaide caved in and met the demand again. Who misses out next year? Or are they spending the Cameron money?
lol "caved in"

You're clearly the type to put a negative spin on it either which way it goes.

He leaves: Adelaide lose another required player, wouldn't pay him enough, shit culture, can't retain interstaters etc
He Stays: and we caved in....

Gimme a break :tearsofjoy:

Not going to lie, bit disappointed, would have loved him at Freo, buuuuut, makes much more sense staying at the Crows.
They are contending and probably will be for the next couple of years. Good place for a player to be.

Freo........
