Sad day for Eagles supporters.

Thoughts?

Kicked alotta goals with those deadly drop punts.........oops sorry wrong Mckenna.

No seriously a great footballer, ranks only behind Doull as the best half back ive seen. Great team man and a truly excellent player.

Maybe will one day become the first WCoaster inducted into the Legends.

Champion career, well played.

Bluey mate, your the definition of a champion! You would of made yourself a hero in any VFL/AFL club at the time, and I'm so glad you stayed in Perth to show us your skills.

I hope you stick around with football and with the club, you and woosha as coaches in 2 years time sure sounds awsome

On Sunday the footy public will give you a send off you deserve - and true eagles supporters will stay to the end of the match, regardless of the result.

My most vivid memory of McKenna was a match at Moorabbin in the late 80s when he was on the receiving end of a nice elbow from Plugger.

Cost Lockett four weeks but I wouldn't have been surprised if it effected McKenna a lot more.

But I agree, he was a champion player and I suppose if you look at all of the retiring players, he seems the most likely to be coaching material.

Class Act. Part of one the best HBL's in history (Woosha, Jako & Bluey). Not much more to say.

Here's a tip, don't take the St Kilda coaching job... (no offence Sainter)...

Dutch,

I wouldn't want him either.

There is no way on earth that our club will even consider hiring a coach with no prior experience as a coach or assistant coach at the very least.

I was encouraged to see Wayne Britain going against Carlton's wishes and speaking to St Kilda a few days ago. I suppose it will depend if he wants to continue on as the "match day" coach of Carlton under the direction of David Parkin or coach a team in his own right.

mckenna was pure class- on & off the feild.

so many times ive been barracking agnst the eags and hes screwed me.
What i liked most about him was his cool under pressure- almost like steve waugh.

As for Brittain- i hope he takes the St K job, just to stick it up John Elliot. (oh and maybe improve the saints- and screw the blues)

A.

CLASS ACT. Did the guy ever make a mistake, if so I never saw it. Lets just say that he stuffed up far less than a certain key backman in the team of the century.

His skill under pressure reminded me alot of one G.Foulds and that from me is a huge compliment. Always a ball player as well, unlike his mate on the other flank. An orniment to the game.

Best of luck in future endeavours Bluey. Unless you decide to come over and coach the Dons someday, please stay in the media

BOMBER BLITZ IN 2000!

Thank you Blue. Without you our club would not have achieved half the things it has.

But how quickly a career can fall apart. To think that under a year ago he was accepting his second club champion award is just plain scary.

He is one of those players who has so much for the club both on and off the field, it's near impossible to imagine the club without him.

And like Jod(?) said, as fans we always felt safe when Bluey got the ball.

ABSOLUTE CHAMPION

How come something so inevitable still hurts so much?

Best wishes to McKenna with what ever he does in the future. Apparantly he was going to sign for North until it became apparant that the Eagles were getting formed, so understandably, he stayed in Perth.

It's going to be an amazing parade of retiring players at this year's Grand Final, but while we'll undoubtedly miss the likes of McKenna, Brown, Salmon, Stoneham, Wynd, etc. etc., just remember that next season we'll also be seeing the next generation of champions taking that extra step and filling the shoes of all these great players. I don't think these legends would want it any other way.

Farewell to a champion. You have been an ornament to the game. Has there ever been a cooler player under pressure. Just wish he signed with North in '87. He supported them as a boy and wanted to play for them.

Cheers
