I likewise thank Don for his dedication and hard work. I suspect that if he had not re-appointed Cameron S, if might have been a softer landing.

What many seem to forget is that these people give freely their time and energy to a thankless task, to the detriment of their private lives. These positions are unpaid and filled by people who only want the best for the club, and while the best doesn't always materialise, it is not from lack of effort.
I would like to thank those who are departing for their efforts even if time has proved them largely unsuccessful and acknowledge that their time has not been totally in vain.
They, as much as anyone on this forum only want the ultimate success for our club and hopefully this is the first steps in that direction.

Genuinely would like to 'like' this post nore than once... It's a thankless task that few of us would consider doing (especially if you were to put your own name in place of board members in some of the posts on here). I'm sure they had our best interests at heart, but they just didn't work out how they wanted/planned

I gotta say I honestly feel pity for mark Neeld , the poor bloke has had probably the worst ever coaching reign in the afl vfl history with things that have happened out of his control , which must have severely effected his ability to do the things in his control

He's come in on the back of CEO who had been sakes getting a new contract an then being sacked again before the end ... Not to mention the energy watch turmoil , the death of our spiritual leader, the fallout with Wonna an Jurrah , the accusations of racism , the president resigning , a full tanking investigation , a drugs investigation and I'm sure there's more

I respect the fact that not once has he even used any of those outside things as an excuse when surely they are making a huge impact

Good on them for trying, I guess.

Don't kid yourselves, in main these people don't do it as a community service - they do it for the control, power, etc.

These are high-powered business people, many of them run their own business.

They have huge egos, and this lot are gutless - why do you think they keep getting Gary Lyon to come in as some sort of saviour?

Some people go about things in the right way and fail, from a lot of the stories we've heard - this group of directors certainly don't.

Nice use of supposition and innuendo to support a position, the reality of the situation probably falls somewhere in between, but happy to agree to disagree on this one.

Plenty of questionable things have happened on this boards watch; including cheating, threatening, lying.

I'm not saying all the board members are in same boat, I just don't think you can have a board full of 'good blokes' who all condone these things.

A bit extreme sure, but it doesn't bother me really.

Yes Indeed they have.

In my opinion, Its time for a Total Spill of the board.

What we don't want is "someones mate" taking over with the end result of only bit of window dressing being changed at board level.

In return for bailing us out, the AFL should demand a total spill and let the members decide.

Democracy at its finest.

It didn't go the way we all hoped in terms of on field results but thanks for all your hard work, Don :thumbsu:

The right decision to step down but it can't be easy being president of this shambles of a club. More directors need to fall on their swords.
Has anything gone the way we'd hoped in the last 5 years?

I agree with TPM - sure these guys have the best interest of the club at heart - but they ain't offering no charity.

Sitting on big company boards - or boards of big football clubs, offers them an opportunity to network like no other. It's also an invaluable line on your CV when it comes to your next exec role. Or when your lining up a big deal with your personal company.

Most board members do actually receive a small income for their trouble, although I'm not sure if that's the case at any AFL clubs. And don't forget - they don't meet for much more than a few hours once a month!

Perhaps I should have said that no board go out of their way to make crap decisions, they are based on all information available at the time and are made with the idea that it will improve or further the club, unfortunately our club have made making the wrong call an art form, but that has been happening for my lifetime which started 10 days after our last flag.
That said I sincerely hope that the new CEO and some fresh ideas from a reinvigorated board led by an enthusiastic, strong President is the start of something resembling a successful era, but that's all I've ever really hoped for.
Boards at the AFL level receive no remuneration whatsoever, in fact our current board members have all given rather large amounts to help out the club at various times.

The 40-odd pt win against Brisbane in Rd4 of either 2010 or 2011 was the last time I was excited to be a MFC supporter...

Don't forget the fact that he walked in the door after the club had sacked the coach over something the players (not all) chose to do to make a point to the board that they didn't like the CEO!

What a ****ing joke.

Thanks Don , not only did you step in to help jimmy ,but from what i have been told made significant financial donations to the club as well , an honest demon supporter who put his money where his mouth is , so to speak . Hope you don't completely abandon the club, but a sincere thanks for taking on a thankless job.
