Big Red is Back is the most boring of the three - and underpowered as well. I forget what side he used to barrack for - your own people over at Fort Apache (the Carlton Forum) soon smoked him out -and now he is a pariah

Cheers Biffinator, much appreciated and certainly agree, he's a pretty boring troll.

All the best this year guys :thumbsu:

This looks like a ridiculous call as of March 2010, but at the time it was reasonable I think. :o

Injuries ruined him. Still a good player, but will never reach the heights he should have. Similar to a lot of players actually (J.Rivers for one).

Silly call no matter when it was made. No offence on Brock but I haven't seen a guy don the Demons colours that could get close to Robbie. Ablett and Matthews just pipped him in the best I've seen stakes, and Hird and Carey might just be be level with him. Still we live in hope that one of the young guns we have can reach that level but I'll be happy if they are half as good.

Obviously this thread is from before he had his foot and ankle injuries.

It's a shame, he's never been the same since then.

You mean its obvious this thread is from before he moved to Carlton and went from Melbourne's best player to a spud who can't kick.

Perhaps a spud who is going downhill. No wonder he left Melbourne, with the like of Trengove and Scully on the horizon, packing shit.

Had the football world at his feet after that Elim Final.

One game or even 50 does not a Flower make. Would you call Sylvia the equal of Flower because of the game against the Hawks? Or Bruce with his 9 (iirc) against Carlton? Of course not. No sad thing on them. Hell I'd love to have a hundredth of their talent but unless they can play like that every week then they will never get close to Robbie.

Yes he was Melbourne's best player, too bad he couldn't even make the top 10 in our B+F last year. :D:D

Time to change that avatar? Colin Sylvia (or Sylvia Saint) would be acceptable :thumbsu::D

This thread for me just highlights how good players like Buckley, Hird & Voss were, they were consistantly very good for 10+ years.

Brock will still contribute and earn his place in the 22 at Carlton but i dont ever see him tearing games apart again

He'll look a lot better in a star studded midfield, anyone other than Chris Johnson would. But he's not the kind of guy to build from nothing with so good luck to him in his future endeavours.

(as long as he drops his knee into J**d's face at some point)

Unfair on the OP, Brock was a bit of a J.Selwood back in 06....In and under, efficient, leadership...he's barely a shadow of his former self now

Thanks for the memories Brock (and the $10,000).

I remember round 1 2007 against the saints when brock went down and i was just so sad because after that unbeleivable game in the elimination final 1 and so many other melbourne supporters had such incredibly high hopes for the kid.

His attack on the footy, gut running and even his foot skills were simply amazing for a kid and when he went of hobbling it really did foreshadow a long season for melbourne which has proven to equate to 3 years and counting.

After hearing when he had donated the 10 or 15,00 to the dees out of his own pocket and also when it was unfashionable to do so made me think that this boy was the future of the MFC and that a team would be built round him and sylvia. (hence the name brock sylvia)

But unfortunately, injury after injury has hurt his development. I thought he was close to his best against brisbane in 08 when miller kicked the winning goal to get up. His courage singe handedly won us that game IMO as he had a serious injury yet played on and showed the will to win which was lacking severely from the playing group at the time. Whether that decision proved fatal long-term for brock we wont know, however, what I want to say is that I do wish him well at carlton and that whilst he has slowed down considerably ( or more) he will still be as courageous as ever and deep down I know that his heart still beats red and blue.

I agree brock sylvia, he really did try his guts out for us for the 6 seasons we had of him. In 2006 I don't think there was a better 3rd year midfielder in the comp. I hope he can find an effective role to play in Carltons team and play some good footy. I also thank him for finding a good deal on the trade table when he left, when really he could have screwed us over - because at the moment we hold little bargaining power at all.

Can only wish McLean well.
He thought his best career prospect was elsewhere (Carlton) then so be it.
Hope he does well just against the Dee's.
