Can this guy get any better?

I dont have enough superlatives for him at the minute, he has been great all season and now we know he's building a reputation for himself as a big game player. A future superstar.

Clearance work is amazing and he never gives up. Everyone seems to love him and I'm sure he is viewed by the majority of the players as next in line for captaincy.

That word is not necessary.

He's going to be Melbourne's best player since Robbie Flower. Call it an exaggeration if you must, but the guy is just 20 years old and already in our best 3 IMO.

Do you recalled Brock Mclean's debut in 2004? That was against Fremantle at Subiaco and his first goal in AFL was outside 50m on the run near the boundry. The support was from a good blockage from Peter Vardy and that was a highlight. Melbourne won that match by 30 points.

Is there a Melbourne supporter who doesn't want to make love to that man?
He is a legend. All he needs now is a mo ;)

By saying this, If Mclean's there playing, we're a chance. We lost by 29 points in round 16 because Brock wasn't playing.

I'm trying to think of ways that Brock can get better but I just can't, what would you change?

Once he does a full pre season next year and without injuries he can and will do anything.

Any chance to maybe slot into AA under the radar?
Doubt it...he missed quite a few games. Never EVER let him go!

Hes on track to be a superstar of the game!

"Top shelf" - the perfect description of Brock. He is becoming the complete package - so much heart, tough as nails and silky smooth skills.

He showed why he has been touted as a future star with his brilliant second half on Friday night - and with 22 games under his belt this year could well be challenging for a top five spot in this years brownlow. Lets hope he continues to develop because he is a potential leader of the club in years to come.

So do you rely on a 20 year old kid?? Without him you have no chance of winning? Thats what seems to be the general consensus on this board. Its a bit dangerous and you will never get anywhere doing that.

Age has nothing to do with it.
Wayne Carey was 20 years old once. He was pretty important, and got the captaincy at 21.
Chris Judd turned 23 a few days ago, and won the Brownlow at 21 - most teams would give anything to have him wear their jumper for a day.

We don't rely on him, but he is one of our top 3 players no doubt, so reasonably important one would assume.

Besides, I dont think what people on a message board say reflects just what the Melbourne players think...

He has become one of our most important midfielders but we do have McDonald, Johnstone and Bruce as the other top line midfielders.

This guy is turning into a big game player and seems like the perfect choice as captain. Friday will be a big game for him as he will be needed to replicate his 2nd half effort in both the first and second halves if we are to stand a chance.

And your midfield is on the wrong side of 30.
Ours will peak in 3 years, yours will be on retirement cheques.

Now go away.

I say the guy is your future captain. Shows real leadership skills on the field and he's only a young'n too

good work bumping a thread from 2006. its not like there hasn't been a million threads about him in the past year..................

Lets hope so

Big Red is Back - you are one of the three official Judas Iscariots on the Bay, and the triumvirate - quite rightly - have all slithered their way towards the Cheats after abandoning their original team of choice.

Do you really think that exhuming an old thread is going to rehabiliate your tattered, tawdry reputation? It just shows what a dumb-arse you are. After all, the egg is on the face of your second club, not ours.

Obviously this thread is from before he had his foot and ankle injuries.

It's a shame, he's never been the same since then.

Injuries or no injuries, he's been taken by the flood with respect to the jump up in speed of modern day football. In 2008 the game went up a notch and to his credit he showed a lot of fight but it stood out only in relativity to the rest of the side. IMO the game has gone up yet another notch in speed since 2008. Watch the Port v Bulldogs game - it was frenetic for 4 quarters.

The question we have to consider (if anyone actually cares) is would 2006 McLean cut the mustard in 2010? IMO the answer is still no but it is probably more a discussion point as no doubt many would disagree with me. Injuries aside, he is top heavy and has no power in his legs - this restricts not only his speed but his balance and lateral movement. He wins time trials at Carlton so his injury legacy can't be that profound yet in a game he can't kick, falls to ground in 1 on 1 situations and is as slow as a wet ass fly.

2010 football is his nemesis more than any injuries he ever sustained coupled with insufficient power/strength in his lower half which he has always had but could overcome when the game was slower. To his credit he has historically given it his all and played with vigour but that is sadly not enough any more.

This looks like a ridiculous call as of March 2010, but at the time it was reasonable I think. :o

Injuries ruined him. Still a good player, but will never reach the heights he should have. Similar to a lot of players actually (J.Rivers for one).

He will rock this year injury free.

Apologies on behalf of Carlton supporters for this fool bumping a useless thread, he's been back trolling on the Carlton board ever since the practice matches started.

While I'm here, what's this Triumvirate you speak of?

Sorry again and hopefully he's carded soon and none of us will have to put up with this idiot.

Comrade SC - cheers.

There are three posters who have changed sides on the Bay. Everyone knows about Celtic Pride. Big Red is Back is the second. Gibbs2Yarran was the third.

Truth to tell, Celtic is a fine poster in his own way. Everything bar the kitchen sink has been thrown at him (could be a her) and he is still punching back and landing many a blow. He turned Kreuze Missile, for instance, into road-kill.

Gibbs2Yarran, now permanently red carded, was a Kuiper Belt Flog.

Big Red is Back is the most boring of the three - and underpowered as well. I forget what side he used to barrack for - your own people over at Fort Apache (the Carlton Forum) soon smoked him out -and now he is a pariah.

Compare some of his threads with RB's analysis above and he'll soon be put into perspective.
