McLeod doesn't feel like past players are welcome at the Crows

The trouble is there's hundreds of past players. Do they all get access to free tickets? I believe we're still the club with the highest number of 11 game memberships in the AFL and we traditionally sell out most, if not all of our games. Unlike the Power or other clubs, we don't have tickets just to throw around willy-nilly.

If you're going to offer free tickets etc then do you offer to every player who's been on our list? Or do you have to have played a game? 50 games? 100 games?

You can't just have ex-players rolling through the place en masse. I think trying to keep ex-players involved and feeling a part of the club is very difficult.

Having said this, if Andrew McLeod is suggesting there's issues, then we have to listen. Rob Chapman needs to be on the blower to Andrew yesterday arranging a long lunch at Magill Estate, or where ever it is bankers schmooze their big clients these days, to have a chat to Andrew about what he means and what he thinks needs to be done to fix it.

The concern is that this has been Jamison's portfolio ever since the members elected him. Bit of a joke really, as IMO the members should be his focus, but thats another story.

Is this simply an extension of the clique type/boys club nature that has plagued our club from the start?
Yeah, excellent post.

I find the whole thing a bit troubling. Of course you want to be welcoming to past players, but that's not exactly a one size fits all thing. Especially in an environment where you're conscious of being seen as a boys club.

Personally, I would have thought we'd been pretty accepting of McLeod, with the amount of fundraising we do for his foundation and the fact he's actually employed at the club. But it's obviously not as simple as that.

Considering McLeod isn't a current player I would say Jackson should only be focusing on people currently on the list as a priority, especially given the reduced resources around the club.

Mind you if his issue is with current people like Roo and Jameson then maybe he, Nicks and Kelly need to get involved.

In the end, in just about anything, you can be as welcoming as anyone thinks is reasonable.

That does not necessarily equate to someone feeling welcome.

I have no idea, listen to Roo’s comments and make up your own mind.
But you can already tell that it's bullshit from your summary.

Long chat about the issue... but we didn't talk about the issue. Which makes no sense.

So obviously what Roo said this morning isn't the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth

Just heard his comments.

A bit odd given he still works there.

To me it sounds like most places of employment. You move on. I don't expect to go back to a former workplace and "fit in".

I am mates with ex workmates and we do catch up.

In the Ridings bar we often see ex players having beers together watching the game. Daresay these are not organised by the club, just ex team mates catching up watching the club they played for.

Maybe over the years McLeod has lost those friendships. Maybe he was never close with his team mates?

To me his is sounding a bit precious.

I've sat in a box a couple of times at Adelaide Oval for Showdowns... and there's always been ex players and their wives/partners there watching the games, and I'm assuming it has been organised by the club too. Not sure where this "the Club doesn't do anything for past players" thing comes from?

IF Rob Chapman had a chat with him it would be more Rob telling him that he shouldn't be saying those things out in public and he needs to keep it in house where he can dismiss them and tell Bunj there are no lingering issues

Just take 9 minutes from your day and listen to his comments mate, they’ve even put it as a separate thing from the whole show. Link is above.

Did you actually listen to the interview because that wasn't my take at all.

No one is welcome at the corporation including ex-players.
The corporation exists so that Chapman and his cronies can feel relevant.
First we are complaining it's a boys club, then next we are complaining it's not a boys club.

The issue is we have the wrong boys in the club

That’s not the rub. The rub is that Macca can’t be bothered talking to the brick wall that would be Roo. You know Roo, the guy that put his friendship with Burto ahead of the club and believed he was doing an awesome job.
My dislike of Roo the person stems back to his days as captain. Where he would barely do anything at functions (with fans). He would sit himself as far away as possible from anyone, and reluctantly sign anything and he was pretty rude to some. There are other stories I've heard (first hand recounts) where he's just been an arrogant twat, where it was all about "what's in it for me" and not doing any more than he had to. His push of Burton on us, and subsequent keeping him there after ******* up, just did me in. I wouldn't talk to him either.

No, that's not what he's saying at all.
That's right. He said that he doesn't feel comfortable at the club or feel that he's embraced by it whereas you see other players go back to their clubs and feel welcome.

And I'm saying, other past players are often there on game day. The two don't fit. Coming from someone that WORKS at the club... I am a little bewildered by his statements. Has anyone actually listened to his pod cast to find out what he actually said?

Yes I've listened to it.

Roo says that he asked McLeod for the reasons he feels that way because supporters would want to hear the facts. And said they had a 'good chat' except they didn't cover any of these details.

Just take 9 minutes from your day and listen to his comments mate, they’ve even put it as a separate thing from the whole show. Link is above.

Roo spends a bunch of the clip absolving himself of any blame, saying he runs the past players program and is confused about the issue. Spouts a bunch of names who are happy and involved with the program, saying he's spoken to them too and they don't understand. Doesn't mention speaking to any past players who aren't involved with his program about how they feel treated.

He then criticizes McLeod for speaking publicly about the issue, saying it's the last thing the club needs. He also snipes McLeod, claiming he should get involved if there's a problem, putting the blame back on McLeod for the issue. He further criticizes him for not backing up his claims on the podcast.

The clip doesn't provide any answers, and yes Roo contradicts himself a few times by saying he's spoken to McLeod but doesn't really know why he feels that way and just flat out blames him for it. How can he have spoken to him but not understand the concerns?

The comments about listening to McLeod's podcast for the answers are clearly a joke taken in the context of the clip and the tone.

Not a fan of his comments to be honest. Too much time blaming McLeod and pumping up his work, not enough accountability

You'll have too listen to McLeod's "podcast" then.

Not going to popular on here but McLeod suggesting listen to his podcast indicates to me the problem is of his own doing. Does he expect to be "feted" by all and sundry at the club every time he enters the building? Absolute champion footballer but comes across as a very private and not very outgoing type of character.

This isn't about the past players arrangements or those who McLeod played with. It's not about Chapman, Roo or the board. It's not about his current roles with the club, or his podcast. This is a rift with some current players and some recently departed. “I don't walk into the changerooms ... it’s not a place that you feel welcomed.”

The club is imploding. What he said on radio this morning, makes one feel Sick. It's no different to the shut up or support another club.

It's not your club anymore, that's why you don't feel welcome and I'm disappointed in you for saying so. Riccitto sounds like the salvation army priest telling the young indigenous orphan off for complaining about abuse. So Patronising and arrogant

McLeod has always come across as a media manipulator who specialises in hyperbole
