I attended the Werribee v Willy game today and took a close look at some of the dogs players.
McMahon was at times brilliant in the 1st half running with the ball and passing perfectly to leading forwards.
I noticed him starting to drift out the game in the 3rd qtr . In the last qtr after the coach had pleaded for a big effort our Jordy seemed to make up his mind to just watch the rest of the game.
He seemed to run up and down the centre square the whole qtr not picking anyone up and in the end not being picked up himself.
I saw only one possesion for the qtr. It was a very poor effort and he didn't seem at all interested.

On another thread I did mention that McMahon was very good when he had the football but poor when he did not. I went to the game as well and I agree with your assessment.

It sums him up perfectly. When he doesn't have it he doesn't have a clue.
I'd like to see him given a run in the backline and I think it would be great for his development. If he was to model himself on Rhys Shaw he could be a very damaging player.

To have a run in the back line you need to have at least some defensive skills. This guy has zero. Watch him when the opposition have the ball. he runs 5 metres off them just watching.
He really has no idea at all what to do when its time to defend.

Agree with Ghost. McMahon needs a defensive side to his game otherwise he becomes a liability very quickly when the opposition have the ascendancy. He should watch Cam Faulkner play. He works hard when the opposition have the ball.

Faulkner has a great work ethic and the defensive part of his game is already sound. I agree that McMahon could learn a bit by watching Faulkner.
Still think that McMahon should be given some defensive assignments to help him develop

I think this week he shold start doing a tagging role, maby start with a player like Burns. I think McMahon could develop into a Top 10 player if he can get all of his areas covered.

Agree with the Faulkner comments i cant wait to see him play. We are going to have a pretty scary midfeild in a few years time.

Wing: McMahon Center: Murphy Wing: Gilbee

Rov: Faulkner Ruck Rover: Hahn

Plus guys like Guido, Birss, Cross, ect carving it up. Our Midfeilders also do alot of things other Midfeilds do and thats Kick Goals.

Putting Jordy in a tagging role at the moment would be like putting Garlick into the ruck. To put a player in a certain role he must have at least the some clue as to to how to play that position. Jordy has none at all. Please take a close look at him.
He is an offensive player only, and hasn't the faintest idea about what it takes to pick up a man or play defensive.
I would suggest some videos first to introduce him to the concept of defence. Watching his teamates would be no good as most of them struggle in this department as well.
Some muscles wouldn't go astray either.

I would have thought that the club needs to address his weaknesses in that area in some form rather just let him be a defensive liability. Would be a very good player if he grasps the fundamentals of being accountable.

The best defensive approach from the Bulldogs would be to offer him as trade bait.

Cameo roles and flashes of brilliant football isn't enough output from a guy so talented and athletic.

He showed against Werribee in the first half what he can do, but sadly, when he was needed in the second half to make a difference he simply just dropped his head and stopped running.

Very poor I thought. The Dogs cannot afford to carry passengers on their list.

I can't think of a Collingwood player about 70kg that Jordon could play on this week where he could develop his defensive skills of which he has none.
Leon Davis maybe, I don't know, probably this week they should put him on the wing give him the ball and let him run.
I tend to agree with Knackers, McMahon tends to be too flashy.
I would prefer him to be more consistent.

Remember Leon playing on Jordy for about a quarter last year and tore him a new one. Was simply too quick for him. He's young, and still learning that he can't run for 120 minutes flat out.

How many games has MacMahon played?

I reckon things like simply being accountable or maintaining concentration is something that any player can pick up unless he has a real attitude problem. But MacMahon has attributes which some players will never pick up, and thats whats important.

blinding speed and evasion skills
great vision and delivery

whats he going to be like with 50 more games under his belt?

The thing is, is he lazy or can he just not muster the concentration required?

This accountability/laziness thing is a bit of a theme, isnt it? Whats the deal with the bees, anyway? Wiggo, Bowdo, MacMahon, Guido, Alvey... all have been accused of being slack and/or loose.

Whats going on down there? Im hoping that its simply our players are too good for reserves footy and have got into a habit of not having to put in 100% in order to succeed. (maybe not in wiggos case, it seems to be a real attitude problem)

Hit the nail on the head mate! For christs sake he is one of our few young guys who has actually influenced games in his career. His career is only 3 and a bit seasons old and hes bodys still filling out.

I didnt see any of his critics pointing out his terrific chasing against West Coast when he was being played out of position as a forward nor did any of you mention his fantastic tackle on Leppitsch in round 5.Its very easy to form an opinion of a player and then get lulled in to the trap of picking out slight lapses and making them into huge problems. He has had his low points but IMO since his highly publicised blunders against North Melbourne last season he has improved on every aspect of his game.If he continues this improvement at the same rate then I have no doubt he will be an out and out gun especially given he still has an awful lot of improvement to come merely through his natural development.I am not saying he couldnt improve these areas of his game but give him some credit he has improved the out of sight IMO.

I will stick to my comments made two weeks ago...............use McMahon as tradebait.

I won't mind if he kicks on at another club, but basically he is the type of player at the Dogs that we simply don't need.

Today against Hawthorn we were absolutely second rate in every facet of the game.
