McNamara to Debut?

Stolen from MK08 at Demonlogy -

I can leak word out of the MFC admin office at the G that Tom Mcnamara is "a strong chance" to debut versus Geelong this week.

How do i know??

I know the young lass from MFC who is looking into the flights schedule to fly Tom's family in from Adelaide to watch their son's debut...

If he does get the nod, congrats Tom!
Before you shoot it down....this is Peter German's report of Tom's game on the weekend -
Tom McNamara – Tom played at half-back and was in our top four players. He restricted his opponent and also got his hands on the ball. He read the ball really well in the windy conditions.
So he's in form, however I struggle to see who he comes in for?

He's a 190cm defender, who has pulled up a bit sore?

For the love of God don't be Rivers that's pulled up sore.

Good on McNamara if he gets the nod though.
Would have to be one of Rivers, Warnock or Martin.

I know who my money is on.

We don't need an out from the backline to bring him in. In fact I think we need another defender so it has to be either Cheney, Grimes or McNamara. The last two weeks Bruce and/or Bartram have been playing in the backline, but this week I want Bruce to provide some extra run in the midfield, and Barts to tag Ablett.

FB: Frawley Martin McNamara
FF: Steve J Hawkins Burnes

HB: Rivers Warnock Bennell

HF: Rooke Mooney Varcoe

McNamara may be tall but he probably has similar pace to Grimes or Cheney so if they want to select him then I say go for it.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was feeling it just a bit. Even if it isn't him in question I wouldn't be surprised if they rest Rivers here or there at some stage while he's still coming back.

Agreed. With the amount of injuries he's had I would understand them resting him and giving McNamara a go.

and if Rivers does play then I'm all for it if it means Bartram can play defensive midfield so Dunn can play forward.
I know it sounds like I'm getting carried away with him kicking 50% of our goals last week but he seems as though he wants the ball rather than others who run backwards with hands in the air saying kick it to me under 10's style.

He definitely played positive football. If he keeps it up then he deserves being given a proper go up forward, perhaps his tagging roles improved his competitive edge - who knows.

I have been suprised in peoples calls of him being a prime canidate for delisting. He was drafted very young, even younger than Watts and Blease and would have been elegible to be drafted in the 08 draft. From memeory he was the youngest player drafted in 07 and Emma Quale, who is as good a reference going around in the 2 Melbourne papers rated him in her top 20 at the time. He is only 18 and from all reports could be an absolute steal. You would think at his age he would be on our list in 2010. Could Clint be out this week due to personal reasons? I know he played on Sunday but surely this week would be a much harder proposition. He is a medium defender so perhaps a Steve Johnson. I know thats a big ask but Maltouse for example plays his young fellas on elite players straight up so it is not as silly as it sounds

Mcnamara was the youngest player taken in the 07' draft, only qualifying by 2 days.
As for Emma Quayle rating him, she listed him at 23 of her top 25 stating that he isn't in the top 25, but would put his name down as he deserved to be taken as an outstanding bottom ager(and would likely be top 20 in 08' if he wasn't taken).
Unless someone's gone down with injury(Rivers -.-') the only two of our back six who I could see being rested are Bennell and Bartram.

Also fwiw Frawley will be taking Johnson, and will give him the towelling of a lifetime.

Thought.

Perhaps McNamara is going to be given a go up forward? 190cm, quick, able to take a grab. No guesses as to whose the party that is on the chopping block.

One out of left field?

I don't think he's ever played forward... So it would be a great surprise.

Perhaps with Geelong only having the two genuine talls in Mooney and and Hawkins, they will play Tommy Mac on one of the medium forwards, and move Stef Martin forward?

Either way, this is great news... I've been pretty excited about Tommy Mac ever since we drafted him from what I heard. Struggled with injury last year, but the reports out of Adelaide of him were all positive.

I saw Casey last weekened, & I'd give him a chance (I'd also give Daniel Hughes a chance), the only problem is I can't think of anyone I'd want to take out of our side right now. I'm all for keeping guys like Jetta & Bennell as I want them to get all the experience they can possibly get. But if someone goes out with injury then bring this guy in, & Rusty the Robertson.

For some reason, everytime I look at the possible match ups for this week I can't help but tell myself we actually have a chance of winning. Bring on the cats, make them cry like a bunch of sourpusses ;)

On our day i'm sure we can/could beat anyone. I'm looking forward to benchmarking ourselves against the best in it.

Like other have said it's going to be a valuable lesson for the for the young Dee's.
