Mcphee bashing

To those saying we should trade him, what do u suggest we would get out of it? if you all think he is rubbish then do you think the rest of the league are going to be fooled by it?

I thaught other than the obvious mistakes he made last week he was one of our best players. Took a couple of strong marks up the ground and allowed lucas to player deeper, and with scotty's fitness base being low as it is it made all the difference for a while in that 2nd quarter.

I honestly think some people on bigfooty know as much about football as my mother. I can imagine you sitting in front of your telly, and nothing at all pops into your mind throughout the game except TRADE MCPHEE! when he drops one easy mark. But then when he holds a strong contested one and pumps it long to Lucas or Lloyd, it is just taken as a given. Some people really need some perspective

Gumbleton. Where will Mcphee play when Gumbleton comes into the side?

Mcphee holds the ball up way too long, is a poor decision maker, too short to be a CHF, too slow to be a midfielder, he'd do well at Melbourne across the half-back flank... they like overrated backmen!

the same role he is now? his not a CHF he is a HFF. he can still play the lead up HFF role when gumby is in the team

HF: monfries lucas mcphee
FF: neagle/jetta lloyd gumbelton

with a range of midfeild players playing the crumbing small forward role.

considering neagle and gumbelton arent fit enough to play a whole game yet they need time on the bench in which another midfeilder comes in to play the small forward role

mcphee can also be used on the wing, he doesnt have the smarts or probably the leg speed to be a pure midfeilder but on the wing he could be very damaging..

rotate mcphee with HFF and on the wing.

I can't really comment on this but is he playing a midfeld role (i think he is:confused:)
this year? Because I rekon he could do well as say a running backman, I don't think he is really a midfielder if that is where he is playing. As i said i haven't seen a lot of Essendon, after tonight i may have a different view:p

He is a decent player, im not sure why people would be bagging him or wanting to trade him.

He's played everywhere in his career.

He played his B&F, AA year as a running backman.

This year, he's playing as the third tall up forward, and doing quite qell there, especially considering that he was usually taking a main key defender when Lucas was out.

If he is sitting 5th in your B and F then matters at bomberland are far worse than I thought.
He is probably on about 350+ a year. In which case a lot more is expected, that you are not getting. Get rid of him. He is not going to deliver your team anything going forward.

stick to your own board if you're going to criticize please.

He's the reverse omen for us
Has had a real crack & done some good things when we've been beaten, but has been woeful when we've won.

I personally like his attack on the ball & man but he's not indispensible, a limited footballer. Still think he'd have value

He is such a good contested mark and has a huge tank, but just makes some horrible decisions and makes some silly mistakes. He is a difficult matchup for the opposition. He should be persisted with, I think.

I don't think it'll be long before we have better options for his position - even now, Gumby wouldn't be any slower, probably a better decision maker & arguably better below his knees
If the club agrees, he will be on the trade table.
End of story for me

He was very good last night. He has been pretty good most of the year actually. Yes bad decisions, misses easy marks and goal but he works himself into the ground, presents hard all day and takes some good marks. He is just one of those easy target players that are easy to bag. Why who knows, one thing is for sure he cops more than he deserves.

Good game, had the skill, but he lacks footy smarts sometimes. Sometimes he will make horrible decisions but hopefully Knights and McPhee can work it out and he can become a crucial player in our next premiership team.

I'm being a massive hypocrite here, but skill? Really? Worse below his knees (at least in the last few weeks) than anyone in our side. Including the two ruckmen

You guys have no idea, would be in our top 5 best players this year.
The only thing he needs to work on is not panicing every time he gets near the ball.

Another good game.

Presented well and busted his gut. Played his half forward role perfectly. He made one too many mistakes but it seemed like the whole team was directed to play on at all costs at around half forward.

Have to agree! :thumbsu:

McPhee was been a very good player for us this year, i was a little bemused when we decided to play him as a CHF/Flanker because i honestly think his best position is running and carrying it out of defense.

It's a totally different role that we've seen him in this year, which proves that he's a pretty versatile player.
Skills can let him down at times, as well as his decision making but the fact is that he's a great mark, fantastic shot on goal, has an impressive tank and is starting to get back into some form by consolidating his place in our best 22.

It's a young side and he's becoming a leader of our football club, it's not as noticeable as a Lloyd, Lucas or McVeigh but he's starting to believe in himself again which can only mean good signs for the Red and Black?

I've always wanted McPhee in the team for his stong marking and leading ability but his 13 clangers from 23 possessions last night is a serious concern. I don't understand how he can have worse decision making ability than what he had in 2003.
