I actually think we need to take him away from playing fullstop for 2 weeks and get him doing some serious cardio work and strip some weight.
Hes 3-4 kgs to heavy at the moment and needs to strip some of it to be back to where he needs to be agility wise.
 
PUT QUITE SIMPLY
Mcphee has been mostly terrible in all but maybe 2 games this year.
For a senior player in fact at times embarrasing (Essendon game)
Any other player would by now be out of the 22.
If good performances are an incentive to get into or hold your spot in the team then this certainly is not the criteria at the moment at Freo.

IMHO, Ibbo should not have been played in preference to Grover, and I suspect Suban didn't quite come up.

Having said that, a Collingwood jump start/low-intensity, trackles slipped/missing, clangers and turnovers plus the loss of McPharlap/Mundy and a blinder from Cloke, all killed us. They also double/triple-tagged Pav expertly and Palmer (others?) was quiet (not sure if he was negated or just couldn't get into it).

I think we were flattered by the score, and I imagine the group is gutted.

Kepler
Walters(up forward with someone moving up to take Mcphees role)
Roberton (if not injured)
Dodd (even he would make less mistakes)

Mcphee is an odd case, sometimes he might play like a freakish player than the other 80% of the time he will tend to do nothing and play terribly.

I bet you in the next few weeks he will play a blinder than play shocking again :p lol

Mcphee deserved and has been given an opportunity (more than some others) to prove himself but surely he does not deserve a free ride on the bus when others who are paying for that ticket with their performances are not allowed to make that trip. Kep Schammer
Ibbotson is another case where prior to his injury against Essendon many questioned his half hearted efforts at times. Heaps of talent but he is at times caught napping. How after being out for 5 weeks he walks straight back into the team is baffling. And his performance certainly backs up my statement.

Let's get some perspective here.
McPhee was bought in as a big body to cover the loss of Solly.In terms of putting his body in, he is offering protection for our young blokes.
We got caught last night because of injuries forcing him into a position where he was always on a hiding to nothing.What was missing was someone to marshall the defence once McPharlin went off.
We had too many flying for a mark and no one on the deck and no one talking to tell when a spoil needed to occur.
Why is Roger flying for speccies when his job is to cover the opposition's small roving types?
Johnson was our most disappointing player last night and we need to add another ruckmen or the big bloke is going to burn out.
I reckon it gave us a reality check as to where we really are.

I am not bagging Mcphee on last nights effort or a few isolated incidents everbody can make mistakes and have an off night BUT he has made mistakes consistantly in almost every game played for us this year NAB games included.

My criticism is based on all his performances for the year.
I am passionate about supporting Freo and wanting them to improve. At the start of the year all players should get equal opportunity to push for selection in the team and as the season progresses we shuffle the cards to give us the best possible combination. I do not have a dislike for ANY docker player and as part of our club admire each and every one of them. However if someone is out of form, not good enough, not trying or consistantly making errors, no matter what there name is be it Palmer Mundy Pavlich Sandilands Ballantyne Schammer Mcphee or any one else on our list they should be replaced in the team by some one who will perform.
HOW ELSE CAN WE IMPROVE?

In making that simplistic statement you are assuming (in this case) there is someone available to switch in for the ROLE that McPhee plays.

Who would you use? Grover? We've tried him further forward and it hasn't worked, also I don't think Grover has the tank either.

Dodd, Suban, Kep etc are not the same type of player; a big bodied roaming "wing" player.

I'm not trying to defend him completely - his FORM will be under scrutiny, but his ROLE may not.

It was team loss to a better side last night - end of story.

Yes it was a TEAM loss last night and my point is not to drop Mcphee for last nights performance but more for his OVERALL performances this year.
Is his ROLE in the team that unique that no one else at our club can play that role for that matter how important is that role when he hasn't really excelled in it yet we have been playing reasonably well for a good part of the season?

To be getting a game (like DeBoer for example) he must be making the contribution in his role that the coaching staff want. That won't place him out of scrutiny for his form, I agree. However, we're all taking guesses at his instructions, but I don't see a player that can switch in for him. As it turned out, the Dockers certainly couldn't have survived any more smaller bodies last night.

I understand your arguement but surely there must be a point where the negatives (Fumbles, fluffed kicks dropped marks out weigh the advantage of some one having strength and a bigger body)
I wonder as a player streaming down the wing if I saw Mcphee on his own or another player matched up would I have the confidence to kick to him or would I take a 50 -50 chance on kicking to a contest. The players see what we see and it certainly doesn't instill great confidence in the playing group.

Fyfe is in for Headland, very different physically, but doing fine. Bucca for McP would work fine.
 
I have defended McPhee before but his game last night was shizzen houssen to the max,there is no possible way he can play next week...replace him with Keppler or Grover and send him back to the wafl for an extended run

Hope we don't lose 2 in a row ...the meltdown would be unbelievable.

I see where the McPhee critics are coming from, however some of the emotive language and OTT descriptions are a bit comical.

What is wrong with posting he makes critical errors at the wrong time versus he is the worst player ever and playing him cost us the game.

So to the moderate critics - I hear you but to the OTT posters get some perspective.
 
^^^^ He's going to be a bit of a lightening rod as unfairly or not, he is perceived as getting a gold pass without having done anything to earn it.
It's not really surprising Freo supporters are overly sensitive to the suggestion of players returning from the East after starring for other clubs to a comfortable retirement and a guaranteed first 22 start every week. We put up with that crap for far too long.
I'm not saying this is what is happening here, just that it's bound to get a few hackles up. I for one would feel more comfortable if he was dropped to the WAFL to find form and someone who is knocking down the door every week like Pearce or Schammer gets rewarded.

That's right, he was drafted before "we" on this forum knew Solly would be out. Was he drafted before the club knew Solly was on the decline / likely to be out?

FWIW I'm not a big fan and have spent my fair share of time swearing at the screen, but I'll accept that we need someone like him in the side given the number of kids, and I don't think he's been THAT bad the last couple of weeks. I also don't think it was his fault he was on someone too big/strong for him last night. Wish he'd keep his feet better though, and take the simple marks (but just watched Lonergan drop an absolute sitter, and Fev have one go straight through his mits in the first couple of minutes of the game too, and he's a much better player than McPhee, so he's not alone).

He was drafted because harvey liked him
He is a big solid body who can play anywhere and said he could play midfield.
He was going to be used as a midfield option, harvey had backed him in all preseason to be playing there.

Mcphee got opportunitys in midfield during preseason but proved he wasnt cut out for it.
Luckily Barlow came in an dominated from day 1 so now mcphees only options are up forward an down back which is where i always thought he would be of value to us.
Not as a best 22 player but a fill in player when best options are injured.

If rumours are to be believed harvey an Scott had a disagreement over the signing of mcphee.
Looks to me like a player who wont be dropped as doing that is like admitting it was wrong to get him.

He DOES NOT use his size as much as you might think, people are just clutching at straws trying to find good things he does to try and provide a counter to those who can see the truth. He is too big, too slow, not agile, can only run in straight lines. He might be able to lay 1 or 2 crunching tackles a game if everything falls his way ... big deal. He has had a few games that have been just OK, but using these as an example really doesn't fly with me, anyone half decent could have matched those OK games.
