Agreed. And there's still no guarantee we'll keep Tarrant beyond this year.
I would be surprised and a tad disappointed if Taz didn't renew.....
I reckon he is happy with the changes Freo have made to his footy career...lets be real here, he copped absolute shit for his forward skills late in his Wobblywood days, came hear and copped some more as a forward...............THEN Harves gives him a chance, throws him down South and the man delivers....

It looks like he is very happy and settled now and I would consider it pretty ungrateful if he didn't see his days out here :)

When he stops bumbling and giving up goals through turnovers will I commend him on his game. Until then we're only rating his performance against his other poor performances.

He's good at kicking pressure goals, but I swear his hands must be made of concrete the way the ball reguarly bounces off them.

Any chance he creates goals with pressure on the man/ball?

Oh well, lets wait for him to shank 3 kicks next week, then we can all have a protest march on the capo strip!

Keep up the good work Skeletor!

So does the rest of the team.

No, I will just watch on in continued frustration at his performances.

Others won't be so civil, as we heard during the Collingwood game. Lets hope he finds form soon.

So does the rest of the team.

And the rest of the team makes mistakes also, allthough judging by our posters, you would think he had a monopoly on it.

And overlook any positives.

Some would argue he has been amongst our better players on various occasions throughout the season. Others would say he has rarely, if at all, been in our worst two or three, and yeah, some think he's been the worst player in our side this season, hence this thread.

It all depends how you define form. Would the Geelong/Richmond/WC/Brisbane/Sydney (five of the last seven, with the other two being in games where the entire team didn't perform) games be the sort of games you expect, or would you want more?

Not to the same degree. And it is not really making a point saying that others make mistakes, that is called stating the obvious.

And overlook any positives.
Look up a couple of posts, I have clearly mentioned a positive. As I have in previous weeks.

Please don't act like I'm not paying him his dues, I have done quite enough of it.

he's been the worst player in our side this season.
Care to name someone of comparable experience that has been worse?

He will do something now and again, but this guy is taking longer to find consistent form than anyone else in our team.

Apart from THAT handball, he was reasonable.
Kicked two goals.
Hill had seven possessions and did a handball of similar quality

Just can't see a reason why you would drop MacPhee based on that game. I'm not a huge fan, and would prefer him on a shorter contract, but it is up to other players to dis[place him really, and the most likely player of similar type is Bucca. Perhaps when MacPharlin comes back we will struggle to have all of Grover and MacPhee in the same side.

Don't understand why some people think Mcphee has a mortgage on being in the team.
Surely any player not consistantly performing or constantly fumbling should be rotated out of the team and other players given an opportunity. Not completely giving up on him but let some one else have a go and let him get back his confidence in the WAFL.
Why do we have 40 odd players on the list if we don't use them. One way we can improve even more, is to maintain the hunger from within and have the other players in our squad believing they have a realistic chance of breaking into the 22.
Mind you I must confess Mcphees performance on the weekend was better and for this coming week I would still have him in, BUT as far as I'm concerned he is still on notice.

We DID sell our future out to get him. Ben Reid will be a 10 year full back for Collingwood long after Tarrant retires. And all that has as much to do with McPhee as your post did.

Polak was going to be a 200+ gamer for us wasn't he, with Drum by his side? Dylan Smith was going to step right into Peter Bell's little boots at the Kangas. Tarrant is one very important reason why we are having a great season.

Very true.
I hope Bucovaz can develop to be that sort of player.
His tackle count in the WAFL has been good.

Honestly, I have been trying to give McPhee the benefit of the doubt but he just pisses me off.

Seriously, I don't know how many times this season I've called him a bloody idiot but it'd have to be quite a few

On Saturday I think I counted about 6-7 comments of "You bloody idiot McPhee"

THAT handball was just horrendous and accounted for 3 of those comments
Add to that his tendancy to spoil his own teammates, happens far too often.
Some of his decision making is just horrendous and making me go WTF

Only redeeming feature is his tackling but you can't have a player in the best 22 just for his tackling. He did kick 2 goals but geez his disposal and decision making is a concern.

Certainly borderline 22

Of course he is. My point was simply that the fact he is playing great footy now is not a reason to say criticism of his first 2 years or the decision to recruit him was not justified or valid.

Same as if McPhee goes back to AA form it won't change the fact that right now at this time he does some awful things that are going to piss some people off.

As a shining example of the 'I don't really understand football' brigade I'd suggest the only time you'll ever commend McPhee's game is when threatened with a soldering iron up the jacksie.

The indisputable fact is we have been winning games when McPhee, and a lesser extent De Boer are in the side. These players have roles to play and they play them and it contributes to us winning. McPhee has now played two really good games out of three, and he was serviceable against Collingwood. We beat Sydney because of our tackling pressure and McPhee had 10 tackles.

McPhee is a first 18 player and the rest of you who don't think that will either have to adjust your thinking or suck it up.

Or pick on someone who deserves it like Ibbotson. He has all the intensity of a doped-up hippie and only lays tackles when he accidentally gets in someone's way. James Walker Mark II.

Mcphee may be a first 18 player but when a first 18 player is out of form making mistakes, fumbling and causing the opposition to either recieve the ball or worse still, get easy goals then he needs to go back and find his touch and let someone else have a crack. Maybe in some ways he may be doing is job BUT CLEARLY HIS SKILL LEVEL IS NOT UP TO SCRATCH. My main point is that no matter who you are if you are out of form, not trying, injured, lacking confidence or whatever, these are the reasons we make changes to our team and this is why there are 40 players on our list. I believe we are fortunately at a point where not everyone of our starting 18 automatically has a walk up start every week. If there is a weak link have a go at improving it.

100% AGREE Ibbotson definetly needs a kick up the backside and he is another who should spend a few weeks in the WAFL. Was very dissappointed in his automatic inclusion a few weeks ago.

I think this has been addressed by the coaching staff.

If you are IN the team when injured, providing you can demonstrate the required fitness you will be IN when available for selection.

The rationale for this being that it takes the mental and physical pressure off a recovering player so they work through their rehab program properly. They don't have to "fear" being injured ON the field or while trying to get back.

Having said that, I agree Ibbo has had an underwhelming return so far.

I understand what you are saying but I feel prior to Ibbotson being injured he was not playing that well, 1st round nor the NAB cup games.
His sometimes half-hearted attack on the ball is frustrating from a player that has such good skills.

As I see it, the problem with McPhee is that he can really only play up forward as a bigger bodied forward to crash and tackle and kick an occasioanl goal. He does that one task reasonably well.

As a midfielder he is not quick enough or good enough below his knees.
Not tall enough for a key position defender .
And as a running small backman he will never replace Rog, Duffy or Broughton (needs alot better kicking skills).

At the moment he starts in a role he is able to play quite well (up forward) but the rotations and zone require him to spend time in defence and midfield where he hurts us.
Not in our best 22, but he plays next week because he was servicable this week.

Except Ibbo can actually kick the ball further than 40 metres and can hit a target without looping the ball 50 metres in the air first.

...but the point is that we easily overlook some peoples errors and go hell for leather on whoever happens to be the whipping boy.

You only have to look at the criticism directed at Ibbotson last week, compared to the rapid carpet sweeping going on in relation to Hill's game on Saturday. Heck, Suban had another poor game on the weekend and it's not even mentioned.

Hill was poor.
Suban was not too bad, and was on the ground for only 56% of the game

Hill was poor.

I agree, but that comment is probably more suitable for the 'Stevphen Hille Sux' or 'Stephanie Dill!!11!1' threads which were created after the game on Saturday...Oh, what's that, ridiculous threads like that weren't created? My bad.

Suban was not too bad, and was on the ground for only 56% of the game

Yeah, I saw that TOG stat posted in the 'Picking Suban was a mistake thread' on Saturday evening.

I guess supporters come in all guises. Some like to give our players more than enough chances, others boo and abuse our players at the game and we have every other supporter in between.

Even when most were bagging Tarrant, I still supported him in that I thought he was working hard leading up to the wing and opening up the forward line. He was always one of the hardest workers come game time. Yes, he went through the 'yips' with his kicking but oddly enough he was more accurate than Ryan Murphy, and another couple of forwards in the same period. He copped the verbal abuse at the game from the Freo 'supporters' which I'm sure aided his confidence.

My problem is with the witch-hunts. Someone calls for De Boer's head here on BF and, whether fairly or not, gets ripped into by many of the same people who constantly bag McPhee. Then the match committee omit De Boer before McPhee. The 'arrogance' of armchair critics to think they know better than the people paid by the club to do that job. They will bag McPhee's disposal but forgive Duff's, Broughton's, De Boer's or Rog's. McPhee's tackling and disposal efficiency in the past couple of weeks has easily been in the top ten in the team. McPhee had too many clangers on the weekend, but as someone pointed out did you not see Silvagni's? or Suban's two frees kicks against leading to kicks downfield. Suban's form this year has been no better than McPhee's.

Taz was better once he settled into the team, J Carr's second season was infinitely better than his first. It usually takes a bit of time.

We're seven and two. Life's good. I'm gonna enjoy it without bagging Schammer, Dodd, McPhee or whoever the whipping boy of the moment is. And if you're booing and slagging off our players at the game, you need to grow up and give your membership to someone else. My allegance is with the Freo Football Club, and it's players - not whiteant 'supporters'.
