McPhee

If he was among our best today, then we lost. But we didn't.

He had a better DE but had more clangers? Doesn't make sense really. Just like Mundy having such a low DE, its quite bullshit what counts as effective. All those screw punts that manage to fall into arms of teammates are effective, but they are just lucky kicks. McPhee shows his true colours when he turns it over down back. First kick of the game OOF. Second kick of the game misses Palmer by 10m when he was only 20m away. Handball in the 2nd quarter straight to a Kangas player infront of goal. Third quarter he misses a simple pass in the middle, then it comes back again and he doesn't even try for the mark that was quite simple, ball rebounds for a goal. Sure look at all the good parts if you want. But these are the really bad parts that a player of his years should not be doing.

Brades, that is actually complete bullshit. First on OOF yes. Pav had Grima on his hammer and led very wide. If it had of landed inside the boundary Grima would have been all over Pav. McPhee licked to the lead. it landed right on Pav's chest about 1/2 a metre over the line. No the best result but it wasn't a shank or off the side of the boot. it was a slight misjudgement in a very tight situation.

McPhee's second possession was out of the middle under pressure and resulted in Kep's second shot for goal which he missed. The thrid possession was the kiick to Palmer over 30 m that landed at Palmer's feet. Palmer had an unlucky bounce and a bit of a fumble and there was a ball up. I haven't bothered checking the other two incidents but at the moment you are going at 50% and even the 50 you got right isn't much. Meanwhile, Mundy had turned over 4 disposals, one where he handballed straight to the North's player resulting in a Thompson's first shot at goal and the other when he gave it to Morabito who had absolutely no chance of doing anything and turned it over resulting in Norht's first goal. So on you grounds of looking at the results of the players errors, Mundy was responsible for North's entire score line.

My point is you're statements are incorrect and you're argument is flawed by your bias.

The man grows in stature every game, leave team selection to Harvey he has proven he is more than adept at identifying where he can improve the team and acting. Our role as a supporters is to give our boys our best, being a boo boy is a shameful performance on your part, you may think McPhee isn't contributing to the team's success; how about your own contribution however significant that may be?

It is truly amazing how many so-called fans on this board can only find time to post negative comments when the team chemistry and game plan is like nothing we've seen before resulting in an 8-2 record.

I vote to have this thread closed as it's just dribble in regards to a player who has played all 10 games this season and gives his all and has a clear definable role as a player and leader.

There has been very little wrong with him the past two weeks. A couple of clangers here and there, but some important marks as well, with excellent physical pressure.

Far from worst on ground in both games, certainly an improvement on his first few games and the Collingwood match.

You know, the posters who unquestioningly support players are just as annoying as those who constantly bag them.

The two feed off each other and make for sometimes interesting flame wars.

Agreed. I think he's finding his way better with his new teammates.

Good post.

I was at the Freo v North game and the crowd cheered when he took a uncontested mark in the back line because he did something right for a change. Although that's a bit hard, he does make 3 errors for every 1 good play. If Freo were in 14th place like in other years he'd be in the WAFL.

The issue is not 'unquestioning support' versus 'constant bagging'. You don't see posts right after games with 'unquestioning support' of players but you do see plenty of negative posts after games from the same posters week in and week out.

Also I haven't seen any 'unquestioned' support in the face of obvious poor performances by players. What I have read is plenty of posts saying 'take the good with the bad' instead of highlighting only bad things. Look at both sides of the coin.

A good example from the last game would be why nobody pointed out Hayden's torching by Lindsay Thomas (10 shots on goal) yet continue with an Adam McPhee thread..

Well said.

Sometimes I think the McPhee witch-hunters simply read too many West Australians, watch too much Channel 7 and live in their own little Freagle world, without looking into the games, performances, stats with any depth whatsoever.

I pointed it out in the game day thread.
He got his pants pulled down and was given a paddling.

"That's a paddlin'"

He also had more critical errors (4) than McPhee (3) with roughly half the possessions.

Can't wait for Broughton to come back

hes been good enough to hold his spot the last 2 weeks.
Earlier i was calling for him to be dropped an still think it should of been done, we have enough depth now that if someones out of form for to long there replaceable an need to go back to WAFL an work hard.

Now i will call for people to be dropped an bag there kicking on here but once they pull on there jumper and are out on the field i will cheer them an ofcourse get upset with mistakes.
But i will not boo an bronx cheer them in a game, that was absolutely disgraceful an i hope not to see an hear it again.

Ok, perhaps unquestioning support is the wrong phrase. Its more the people who stick up for players and jump up and down like two year olds when someone dares criticise them. They are just as bigger dickhaeds as the other side who bag players unrelentingly. Trolls love them.

You haven't been reading close enough. There are posters who will back players and carry on when they're bagged, just look in the wafl thread from last week, or this thread.

People criticising McPhee aren't just imagining him playing poorly.

A good example from the last game would be why nobody pointed out Hayden's torching by Lindsay Thomas (10 shots on goal) yet continue with an Adam McPhee thread..
I've seen Hayden mentioned plenty of times. Hayden has also had a much better season than McPhee, he's got credit up to have a couple of bad ones. McPhee is still paying his credit back.

Bad example.

It's not a bad example when I'm using it on a per game analysis and that's what all our posts are about.

To post negatives about McPhee during the North Melbourne game surely the same analysis is warranted towards other players as well.

I agree with most of your thread but please read my post (#317) from yesterday

All well and good, but I think people have been critical of Hayden's game on the weekend, but not as critical as they were of McPhee's game as there is the question of their form for the season. I'm not saying this is right or wrong, it's just the lens through which people view players.

We should resolve to support THIS coaching and selection group; they're winning games for us. "The Process" is working.

Every player is going to come in and out of form. If each of us wanted to we could cite countless mistakes from coaching, to playing and of course umpiring each and every game. The strength of the team is it's ability to power ahead at the right times and to cover the mistakes at others.

When we arrive at a game, from our list, I'm confident the coaching group have the best 22 ready to play.

(Apart from v Colonwood the other night - we were exhausted and asleep).

I think there are 4 different types of critics on this forum.

1 Posters who will bag every player doing someting wrong and not see the positives.
2 Critics who have their favourite targets
3 Supporters who see areas we can improve on and offer constructive suggestions for improvement.
4 Supporters who think because we are winning can not see anything wrong and we should just continue as we are.
We need every one of these 4 types of people on Big Footy otherwise we would just post about how we agree with each other and there would be no debate.

^ I agree, nice expansion on my ideal typologies purplefrog :thumbsu:

There are also trolls who will support/bag players to get a rise.
