This is a love story of epic proportions - me and my new Iriver 390 - bought it yesterday and haven't stopped using it and marvelling at it.. Just thinking back to when i first came across the Tape Walkman, it cost $300, was a clunker, took 4 batteries (which ate energy and my tapes).
Now i have a mp3 player which only weighs like 40 grams, takes one battery, has no moving parts, takes over 100 of my tunes, and i can strap it onto my arm when i go jogging... classy!

saw all these other runners carrying Portable CD's and having a sweat of a time..

just love the player - anybody wanting mp3 players - get the IRiver 390 (also known as the Craft!)

I bought it for about $285.00

its just a reliable good brand Mp3 player - i spent a month or so looking around and getting an idea of whats around - i wanted something which was designed so it was inconspicuous so i could jog with.

have a look at www.centre.net.au for it. i am really impressed - i did have think about an Ipod - but who really needs to hold 3,700 songs (who has that many anyway!!) - plus Ipods take Ipod batteries which are extremely expensive - this one only needs a clone AA battery.

Thanks for that, I'll go have an investigate. I've been thinking about getting some kind of MP3 player for a while, bit I have a natural distrust of Apple and it's works... As for 3700 songs, I do have that many and more, but realistically, I only ever listen to a couple hundred of them in the course of a year.

Iriver is a great brand. I bought an IFP-180TC when they first came out in Aus and it is a great little player, except it only has 128MB storage. Still, I have not found a single flaw with it.

I have an early MP3 player.

A compaq disc player. It runs a smallsize CD (3inch) which stores 180mb of songs - approx 55 tracks.

It has been dropped that many times yet still seems to work.

Im thinking about an iPod at present but certainly think MP3 is the way to go!

I have been very interested in buyin an MP3 player. They seem expensive and i suppose i am waiting for them to come down in price (i have a strange nack of buying things when they are just a couple of weeks away from coming down in price. Like my dvd player which is ancient now cost $500 at the time and 6 months later you could get slim line ones for like $200)

I wanted an Ipod but i heard the bad news about the battery being similar to that of a mobile phone in that it runs out and starts to be of very poor quality after about 2 years (and i would listen to my MP3 player alot if i had one).

---WOW. Halfway through writing this i looked at the stats of this Iriver and saw it said it has integrated fm tuner. I was just about to write that i may wait for one with a radio aswell but thats awesome.

I dont know very much about computers and technology but i do download songs so how do you get them from your Computer to the Iriver? Just plug it into one of the holes at the back at it will play them? All that stuff comes with it i suppose?

Also my main question is what is the difference between a hard drive MP3 player and a Flash MP3 player. Cause i went on one of the iRiver websites
http://www.iriveramerica.com/support/support_flash_index.aspx and when you go to the products you can select hard drive or flash ones. Whats the difference?

You connect the Mp3 player via a usb cable. You usually get a program which allows you to transfer the mp3s over to your player.

Hard drive mp3 players use a Hard Drive to store mp3 players, If you have seen a hard drive you will notice they are quite big and heavy but can hold thousands of songs (10gig, 20gig, 40gig).

Flash MP3 players use memory *i think* they are small, very light but can only hold a handful of songs... (128mb, 256mb)

You can also use a fm tuner on the ipod, but you have to purchase an addon which plugs into the top.

Flash players use a stick of memory. Hard drive players use a hard drive. The difference between the two is that flash players are MUCH MUCH smaller. The cannot skip while playing songs, and are much lighter. Therefore they are ideal for jogging etc. They howver can only store a small amunt of songs in comparison to a hard drive player. Hard drive players are bigger, heavier, and can skip, particularly when moving for a decent amount of time such as wehn running, although they have a reasonably sized buffer to minimize skipping.

I believe all the iriver players use USB and are detected as a hard drive on your computer. So you just plug it in and it functions as, say, a zip drive. However, there are programs that are used if it isnt detected as a removeable drive...
