Bryan Adams would go very well. Icehouse too would be fantastic, although I hope Davies stays true to his roots and doesn't just play Crazy and Electric Blue because they were number one songs. Would much rather here Walls and Great Southern Land in that stadium environment.

Why the **** are we considering these awful middle of the road acts? Admittedly Lionel Ritchie was alot better than I expected, but seriously, get a proper rock n roll band up there. A Kasabian or a Them Crooked Vultures. Soundgarden are touring again, I hear they go alright..

An act with enough mass appeal but some balls to back it up. It's not rocket science.

That's why they get older acts, because of their mainstream mass appeal. You just have to pick the right ones.

Angels can still get it done ... just. Icehouse are definitely in fine voice as they are touring at the moment and sounding awesome. Shame Chrissie Amphlett is physically stuffed as when I saw her 3 years back, she never missed a beat vocally. Radiators stay on top of things well and would appeal to a lot of the bogan-ish element (most of us have a little in us). Rick Springfield is the ultimate professional and sounds great still. What's James Reyne up to these days? Any chance?

A lot, lot, LOT more people know Lionel Richie and Meatloaf compared to Kasabian and Soundgarden.

Sure, this may mean that Justin Bieber gets lined for 2012 Grand Final day, but you can understand why the AFL gone with Meatloaf over lesser known acts.
Sure more people know Meatloaf. Look how well that turned out. Besides, in terms of how many people are familiar with his work, the outstanding majority are familiar with probably 2 or 3 songs at best.

Soundgarden are a headliner at one of the most prominent music festivals in this country. Iconic band of the 90s.

Muse would be an amazing warm up act. They love coming here too.

Honestly, the shit they keep churning out on GF day verges on insulting.

As much as I appreciate Soundgarden (and I do), their appeal is not even in the same league as Meatloaf. In terms of fans, albums sold, top 10 hits, songs known by young and old, parodies on Youtube etc etc

As others have suggested, there are a fair few rock acts that have much more mainstream appeal. The Who would be fantastic tbh. In fact I thought Eskimo Joe would have put in a better effort but maybe the AFL is saving them for a Freo GF :p

In all fairness if you're considering Eskimo Joe then surely Muse come into the equation if we're going on fans and record sales.

The Who would be great but I'd imagine wouldn't come cheap. Also, they recently performed at the F1 didn't they?

They killed it at the Superbowl. I only watch the HT shows. The rest is filler. :D

I was saying it more in jest than anything. The AFL will never use Eskimo Joe until they hit it really big and/or no big international act wants to come over.

Thought he put in a really gutsy performance. Well done Loaf :thumbsu:

For $600000, Mr Loaf whinged and whined about the weather, said it was too cold to perform. OK unfortunately he changed his mind. He complained to The Age for publishing a satirical mock interview with him, which Loaf thought was real, but he had never done an interview or agreed to one, so he was threatening to sue for failing to have a sense of humour i.e. he did not agree to 'the interview' published by the paper.

From the outside, the gig looked like an easy earner for not much input, as well as great advertising if Meat could pull it off.

The rest is history

I formed the opinion a while back that Meatloaf was a complete w***er who takes himself more seriously than anyone else does.

Except Demetriou, apparently.

As legendary and bombastic as the Bat out of Hell was back in the 70's Meat's performance would have to be the most lackluster I have ever seen from a veteran act. He looked out of it, unfit, disinterested, confused, etc and could have used the opening as huge promotion for his upcoming shows. Even our own Stevie Wright could have looked healthier and sounded better on that stage.

If the AFL are thinking of International rock acts then someone like The Who or Springsteen would work a treat or go with someone younger, even take a punt with one of our very own rock groups how about Icehouse?

His bat was a guitar and it was a home run at Yankee Stadium for Paul McCartney. On Saturday night, Sir Paul proved he can rock for nearly three hours and just roll with it. Without taking a break. The man is 69 years old and his voice is still strong and clear, hitting the high notes, jamming for hours and belting out all-time favorites. It was amazing to witness his energy and endurance throughout the night

Demetriou, if your splashing your cash and want a quality entertainer still on top of his game, this guy still sets the standard
