Still the most cringeworthy MCG 'appearance" - commonwealth games closing ceremony

Kath and Kim in 2004 would have been pretty hard to top in that respect.

I still kinda like the end result of meats finest performance. Sounds way better too :)

You can tell from that video that he had a much higher pitched voice when he was young. He can't even get within an octave of those notes now. Which is why it's so cringe-able that he still tries to do all the old tunes. He never was a good live singer though- anything he ever did that was in tune was done in the studio where he could combine as many takes as he liked. He was always more of an enigma than a musical talent.

not true. he started out on Broadway as a lead singer in a number of productions (like "Hair") in the late 60s. he was a seriously good live singer back then and up until he did Bat Out Of Hell. he had a well noted battle with drink and drugs after the success of that album which destroyed his voice and its never been the same since.

the AFL just shouldn't be in the business of booking entertainers 30 years after their use-by date.

Well, I can't speak for what happened in the late 60's or 70's because I was too young, but I have seen footage of his live performances after the release of Bat Out of Hell (1977) and he hasn't been much chop since then when performing live. Given that that album was really his magnum opus, it's quite an embarrassment. Meat Loaf himself shouldn't be trading on things he did over 30 years ago as though he can still do them. It speaks to either a severe delusion or a lack of respect for his audience. Most people who can't perform anymore have the grace to retire. After what he did at the GF, I don't know how he could even still call himself a performer. It was just horrid on every level.

Haha, poor Meat, getting upset because he was exposed for what he is, a hack.

Two words for you Meat;

Lionel Ritchie.

He had no prior warning that he was going to perform, yet he rocked up and sang most of a set with little backup at all, and was stunning.

Meatloaf is a sad old fool, the AFL should only invite "legends" or Australian acts from now on.

Whilst I'm sure the AFL weren't particularly helpful in allocating adequate time and preparation for the performance, that doesn't change the fact that Meatload couldn't hold a single note and just sounded god awful. Autotune would have been the only thing that would have made his performance sound better. Now he's embarrassed and blaming everyone else for his failure

Such a shame, he was awesome ten years ago.

As for his reasoning that he was out of time and flat because he was singing to a backing tape...WTF? He's singing stuff he's been singing for years. Out of time, I could deal with, but his vocals were seriously shot.

Sorry Loaf, I'm just going to listen to you on my CD's from now on.

As a big MJ fan I'd rather not see his music reduced to some sort of Rock Eisteddfod performance.

donotwant!

I agree. I personally hate nothing more than Glee right now.

That's Glee?

I've never watched Glee, but now that I know what it is....I'll even more not watch it.

No, Glee is worse. They cover just about every popular song be it old or some of the new tripe like bruno mars.

They have butchered classics. Even Van Halen hasn't escaped their wrath.
