Its already started. First on Offsiders with and now on Robbo's SEN segment.

Hopefully all four programs tonight put us under the microscope and start applying the pressure.

Couple of interesting callers on SEN with one claiming to have some inside info which certainly hasn't placed the club's players and their arrogance around the club in a positive light. Many of our players need a severe reality check.

A few weeks ago I was quite anxious about Taylor and Green re-signing but given they're apparently asking for quite a bit more than what we're offering, I have no problem should the club hold firm given their lack of output. Would be pretty disappointed if Lewy was the sort whose character would be questioned given his background.
Baffles me how any of our players could even have the gall to be arrogant. Have they checked the win loss ratio over the last few years? Don't mind a bit of arrogance when you can back it up on field, our premiership team was full of arrogant players, this lot has no reason to be arrogant.

Not fussed on Green. He is one of the most selfish players in the comp. He looks like the sort of player that would rather play well and lose then do the hard things for the team and win.

Taylor is a worry, wouldn't think he was the type of player that would lack effort based on how good he was playing in his first 2 years.

Something is seriously up at the club and hopefully some more things are revealed as the week goes on.

How bad is this and how long has it been going on. There were some of the same stories going around under Vossy.

Got to wonder how much weight you can put to the feedback about Leppas supposed poor personal skills. Voss had the same feedback. Maybe he is telling people stuff they dont want to hear.

Leppa said after the GC win that a bit of arrogance crept in. Beggars belief really. You wouldnt have thought that this could be coming from Rockliff or Zorko or Hanley, our official leadership group. Anything else would just be speculation, but I hope that wherever it is coming from is rooted out and dealt with.

Said the same thing about Leppas comment at the time, mind boggling to think they have any reason to be arrogant after winning 1 game. We have the talent to be a lot better side than the shit we dish up. Saw it against North, saw it against the Swans. This all comes back to the coach, if he can't consistently get the best out of the group then he has to go. Plain and simple.

Sometimes the simple, straight to the point stuff works. Technical analysis hasn't seemed to work so far, and they would be getting plenty of that at the club in their meetings surely. Home truths often offend, but it sits in the head for that person to mull over, like it or not.

I'm quite happy with that article. If it makes the players get angry and fire up on the field, it has done it's job. Sometimes they need to know what the outsiders (us and media) are thinking......They ARE well paid, some DO seem to be lazy, they ARE pretty well spoonfed, everything is done for them and we KNOW they are capable of better performances than they have shown......so why aren't they?

Will be very interesting to see how they respond.

Voss's departure always read to me as the players not liking what they were told from him. In a sense, the tail trying to wag the dog which Voss did not allow. If Leppa is having the same complaints despite having a very different style, then we may be able to conclude some players are not able to take direction in a certain manner. All purely speculation of course.

Voss obviously had his faults, but he also clearly didnt have a chance. The administration was a shambles, we werent spending the full cap, made one very poor decision, really they thought they could get Roos and that asshole Johnson pulled a dog act. At least with Swann and Matthews we are ahead of where we were, but the team IMO has gone backwards, they arent playing for Leppa, they are playing for themselves and clearly some of them have self loathing issues.

Will take a lot more than 1 game for me to have any faith in this current group. Turning up for 1 game is easy, they have to turn up every week for the rest of the season before I have any faith in them.

with all due respect Robbo, you are arguably the best poster on here (not just due to your connection to the club) but the media have given us an absolute 'FREE RIDE" this season. It is most likely because we are so darn irrelevant that we don't warrant a mention (we didn't even make the AFL's 'Likes and Dislikes' article last night LOL! - I think Hammo feels as frustrated as we do and he has good links at the club, the article whilst unlikely to win him a walkley, is the sort of thing the club, players coaches need ATM - the media need to start putting pressure on us, people will dis-agree but I liked the article. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. The pressure needs to go on, it's his third year as coach and the players should be ashamed of their effort on Saturday, it was beyond deplorable.
Fair enough
I guess what I was trying to imply was the amateurish level of journalism in that article.
Probably no more amateurish than my post!!!

Hey Robbo, we appreciate all the good information you provide to us through Nick.

Have you spoken to Nick at all about the game on the weekend? Was there any mindset issues heading into the game, more bouts of gastro?

Not looking for excuses but any info about how we could've been so flat would be great!

Some mention of the Lions on the Super Footy podcast today. It's the first time this year I can remember them mentioning the club, usually they just skip straight over the games even though Anthony Hudson has often commentated them. Anyway, Hudson said that he thinks Leppa will survive the year but be gone at the end if there isn't major improvement. The team has won the contested ball stat 9 times in his 52 games in charge. All agreed that AFL needed to provide more support via things like debt relief, retention allowance and facilities. They noted the concerted effort of the NRL to compete against AFL in terms of scheduling etc.
To be honest apart from Huddo and occasional appearances by Jon Anderson I don't really rate the panel on that show but interesting that the performance was bad enough to get some interest.

I thought the same thing after the debacle against Port Adelaide and look at how they responded against Collingwood.

Sadly, I have no confidence in how they may or may not respond, it is evident a lot of the players barely care in anything aside from their pay checks.

Honestly mate, hes lost for words as much as anyone. Nick doesn't dismiss it out of hat and wants to be better. Was really flat and text me the other night saying just that "feeling flat"
Ok today and getting into it. Finger broken (clean break) but will play and is keen to go.
I really hope we bounce back after the weekend as it was hard to watch.

Short segment on AFL 360 on both QLD teams but nothing that hasn't been said earlier today.

Brown singled out Rich and Christensen for a spray, and Robbo also mentioned Taylor and Hanley.

Poor running by the midfield, constantly outnumbered, JB said it is an effort issue and not a coaching issue. Midfield go to water when put under pressure.

Jeez - those articles was written for people that don't know the names of our players, let alone want to be bored with in depth analysis. I thought they were hard. I thought they were honest. I thought they were appropriate.

Funny how the aussie rules gets both inside back pages in the Curious Snail, just to tell everyone how bad aussie rules is in Broncos territory, is it not?

There actually a few minutes on Saturday night when we did bore in, especially at the start of the 3rd. Which says we CAN do it when we choose to do so.

Which says to me it's a mindset thing. Why is the question.

It's one thing not to have the talent- we don't. It's quite another not to chase with intent which with all young blokes should be a given.

There were a number of episodes when we just gave up, didn't bother to run, cover etc. Disgusting really for fulltime well paid athletes.

What produces this mindset? Something here is fundamentally wrong.

When Claye Beams ran around the ball when he was well clear of any opponent (not the first time he has done this this year incidentally) he should have been sat down for the remainder of the game and made an example of. Just not acceptable. You won't be played again this year.

As far as I could see, Beams was sat down- for a few minutes. Then ran back on. Setting the bar very very low IMHO. Not anywhere near good enough player-wise, not anywhere good enough coaching-wise.

Why was Martin, when he managed to get the centre knock as he seemed to do quite often, not told not to simply tap forward only, no variation. Is this too hard? Just how many specific coaches do we need?

Why do we set our standards so low that we seemed to maintain the same centre set up through out when we were thrashed out of the middle. Often the opposition player was unmarked when Martin knocked forward. How hard is it to go defensive when the opposition has the first 21 scores. To zip.

Just caught the 360 segment on the game. Things said that I recall:
Coach most dispirited ever at a post game interview
Never seen a quarter of football like Q1. Could not turn away - in disbelief that a team could give away the first 21 scoring shots.
No coach can survive if the team continues to serve up that rubbish
Called out the players as well. Specifically named Rich, Hanley and said - Where are you Lewis Taylor. Direct comment to him. .
Players obviously not interested in supporting each other or standing up for the club.
Lots of arm waving and finger pointing but no one taking action on ground.

Did say it is only one game - they must not have watched the Port game.

This pies game had that rotten smell about it though, port left me feeling indifferent, felt we were largely just beaten - I can live with loses, even heavy loses especially on the road - but not loses like saturday night.

Just read the headline: "Damien barrett says the brisbane lions are in a world of hurt".

Thought it sounded familiar...
"Brisbane Lions in for a 'world of pain' in 2014 AFL season, says Essendon great Matthew Lloyd. :straining:

This has got to be one of the worst 'opinion' pieces I have read  (and as a former News Ltd. employee, I've read a shitload).

In a nutshell...the AFL has invested a lot of money into the QLD teams. They would like to see a return on investment. The teams are performing poorly on field. And off. TV rights to games gets the AFL a lot of money.

Hands up if you can now consider yourself an expert after reading the below? o_O

Gold Coast Suns and Brisbane Lions in a state of disrepair
May 16, 2016 7:30pm
GRANT BAKERHerald Sun

THE AFL will have tipped more than $100 million into the Gold Coast Suns by the time the footy financial year ends on October 31.

In the same period — since the Suns first played VFL in 2010 — the league will have pumped more than $80m into the ailing Brisbane Lions for good measure.

That is a significant investment, made to look questionable by the poor performance of both teams on the field.

That $80m for the Lions has not been enough to keep the club’s head above water. It is mired in $13m of debt, most of that generated in the same period.

The state of Queensland football was put on the agenda by Leigh Matthews last week — when he suggested the state could not support two teams.

He has since expanded his remarks to say the teams could not survive without the continued significant backing of the AFL.

And there has been no suggestion from the league that it intends to lessen or withdraw support of the Queensland teams.

On the eve of the season, outgoing Suns president John Witheriff outlined the AFL’s main reason for the investment.

Mitch Robinson reaction says it all after Brisbane’s loss to Collingwood on Saturday night. Picture: Getty Images
It’s pretty simple: The AFL wants footy to be the dominant winter sport in Australia in 20, 50, 100 years’ time.

It believes that goal can’t be achieved without a strong footprint in southeast Queensland.

In the meantime, the existence of the Suns and fellow expansion side Greater Western Sydney has added a ninth game each week to be sold.

That has contributed to an increase in the worth of broadcast rights from $750m for a 16-team competition from 2007-11 to $1.25 billion for the following five years and the whopping $2.5 billion for six years from next year.

The Suns argue this, along with strong growth in participation in the state, is a fair down-payment on the AFL’s investment.

Suns chief executive Andrew Travis told the Herald Sun this year: “What the Suns’ emergence has done has reinvigorated the interest in AFL in Queensland.

“When you put all of those things (TV rights, participation and infrastructure) together — the investment of a team by the AFL on the Gold Coast is stacking up significantly.”

All that may be cold comfort to the coaches at the helm of the two sides, however.

The “noise”, as AFL boss Gillon McLachlan might call it, about the cost of footy in Queensland grows loudest when the teams are travelling poorly.

Lions coach Justin Leppitsch and Suns counterpart Rodney Eade know only too well that it is the suits at Docklands who are pulling the strings at their clubs.

My boyhood idol, Mickey Conlan is on Open Mike tomorrow night.

Have had the pleasure of getting to know Mick in recent years in and around Brighton where I live and he looks even more like a tank now as he did in his prime.

For those unfamiliar with Mickey Conlan, he was a 200+ game half forward for Fitzroy wearing the #12 throughout the 80's and recently the CEO of AFLQ and close to being appointed CEO of the Brisbane Lions in place of Greg Swann.

Haven't read it yet, but the headline is damning.

‘I was embarrassed to be a Lions supporter’: Brown - FOX SPORTS Australia
https://apple.news/AMpCsOWNNT2Gc20M5lCOxGw
Brown lined up our "experienced" midfielders and gave them an almighty whack on OTC.

He is clearly incensed at what is occurring at the club.

Would love if Leppa had him chat to the group when they are in Melbourne at the weekend. Doubt many of them would have the balls to look him in the eyes whilst addressing them.

Jon could start with this question for each individual - "look me in the eye and tell me if you think you are playing like you give a damn"

Not many could do so.
