Any club can talk to any player whenever they want and can talk to them about what kind of money they'd be prepared to pay but they can't strike any kind of binding contract, agreement or understanding.

They also can't make a concrete offer, which I've always assumed everyone just gets around by putting "hypothetically" at the start of every sentence.

Is this the first time some one in the current regime mentioned years as a time frame?
Not if you consider when he started. We're 2 and a half years into Leppa's build, which always was going to have us still looking for pieces to the puzzle this far in and beyond. We should be better than we are but I don't think we were ever going to be finals contenders at this stage either. I think most also understand that things change along the way that set us back, like having your captain and best mid out for extended periods.
He didn't necessarily mean years from now, although that is the reality. Look at our list, their age and experience. Good finals teams are full of 100+ gamers, not 20 year olds.

Was there a mention of 2017 being the year (according to the coaches staff) we push towards finals or am I getting mixed up with something else?

Yes, based on an average statistic of 100 games average experience across the list. Lions are currently running at mid 70s on average.

It womt happen though, as the coaching staff need to wake up as we got flogged by Melbourne last week, who fielded a side with mid 50s games experience and we basically got smashed. Melbourne also had some key players out injured so this is no excuse.

The facts are the Lions arnt developing well, and David King hit the nail on the head diring the week, which is the Lions have to stop the excuses and be more accountable, this starts with leadership.

This is the one thing that is driving me
Nuts about the club at the moment. Excuses from every level. This mindset seeps through and becomes part of the culture. Dare I say it but it is becoming very Mebourne like.

Yes agree mate. But one thing i hate more is every week a player comes out and starts talking, either sick of losing, we need to earn back respect or whatever and no one stands by this talk, its all lip service.

Of course it is. What is the club meant to do though. Just do no media, avoid the topic all together? What else are they meant to say if they say nothing? Doesn't matter what the club does, people are going to take it negatively. Either for making excuses or for not explaining themselves.

Players are going through a difficult period. Confidence is way down, and they are both personally, and as a team, in poor form. Working your way out of this situation is something that younger teams struggle with. AFL has never been so reliant on a 22 personal performance as it is now with how the modern day game is played with zones and transition between offense and defense.

End of the day, we have still put in some good performances this year, against good opposition. It isn't like we have been poor all year. What has caught everyone off guard was just how far back we fell, and our inability to pull ourselves back up. From what i've seen the last few weeks the effort has been there, but we are still just not in great form. It is more than likely we will come from nowhere and beat someone we really shouldn't, such is the way we ebb and flow with our form lately. I do think not having our captain out there is hurting us. Players like Zorko, Hanley and Rich have some leadership, but i feel they are more likely to try help with their own form, and don't have that leadership to drag the rest of the team along with them.

Oh my ****ing god.

Please tell me I am not the only one that just witnessed that TV commentary effort in the Hawks vs. Lions game.

I could swear I just heard 2 and half hours of 3-4 commentators constantly sucking Hawhtorn's ***** at every possible opportunity. It was so embarrassing that it was almost beyond belief. Throughout the whole game, a game in which one of the worst team's in the League took it up to the 3 time premiers and were within a kick early in the last quarter. But no, Riloi this, Lewis that, oh Burgoyne oh Rioli, oh Hill.

I think Bruce would have died with embarrassment. I have honestly never heard anything like it. I would love to go back and count how many times that went on a rave about Jordan Lewis.

The absolutely clincher was the quip about loving watching Rioli jogging, when he was 200m off the ball and not shown on camera and had absolutely nothing to do with the play.

It was just so nauseating. They were so far up Hawthorn's arses all day sucking up to them it was almost like they were trying to be as embarrassing as possible.

WHAT THE ABSOLUTE ****??????????????????????????????

Did you know it was Jordan Lewis's 250the?

No, but that is quite interesting. He played alright today, I wonder how many players play well in a milestone game like that?

I was sitting there wondering what the record number of possessions was for a player in their 226th game, bit disappointed they didn't tell me.

It was amazing. The Hawks weren't playing well, and yet they couldn't stop gushing about them.

And apparently he got possessed or something... I was waiting for the priest to come on and do the exorcism - they seem really worried about it...

I was hoping he got repossessed...for not keeping up payments on his exorcism!!!
