The article reminds me of a few rants I heard on Saturday night, "I can't believe they are getting paid for this!" and "This is the worst performance I have seen in 40 years", etc.

Wholeheartedly agree with that. Makes me wonder sometimes why some of the public put so much credence in what they have to say. They rely on hyperbole and over-reaction to sell papers and to gain page views. Hamilton's 'spoiled brats' article is an excellent example.

I think the AFL reporters do a much better job and write better more analytic pieces. Peter Ryan is quite good. Michael Whiting who follows the two Qld sides isn't bad but also tends to go to soft in press conferences and not ask the hard questions often enough.

I don't mind football journalists asking the hard questions when necessary but obviously I prefer those that are thoughtful, measured and fair at the same time. Leave the emotion to the supporters, players and coaches. Sadly too many football journalists (for the reasons outlined above) aren't.

IMO this is the main stream media in general, they just go for the quick headline grab, looking for the next gotcha or scandal moment eg. lions in crisis, leppa has to go, leppa assaults player etc........

Andrew Hamilton has written a scathing article in HUN on both the Lions and Suns players.

Yeah, read it and thought it was pretty amateur. It's read like he'd interviewed a supporter at the game rather than his own research.
All good to flog the team when they are down in a public forum but a point of view suggesting where the club and players need to improve or areas of immediate focus could have been included.
To me that was simply jumping on the bandwagon of QLD AFL haters after the last two weeks.
Could of got all that off FB for free.

95 percent of Courier Mail sport readers want to read analysis about the Broncos and then have a quick chuckle at the ongoing plight of the Lions.

That may be so, but both articles were published in the Melbourne Herald Sun also. Frankly I expect better from the so-called 'experts'.

Doesn't make much difference. I'd say 95% of the H-S reader would also go for the quick chuckle at our expense over the in-depth analysis.

You've answered your own question. It's because they deal in easy answers. We're all a bit shattered and angry after Saturday's game and we all want a scapegoat. Nobody in an emotional state wants to read about complex, multi-faceted problems with complex, multi-faceted solutions.

That is true, but as has already been pointed out I've got Facebook and other social media like Big Footy for the emotional ranting. I personally expect more from the main-stream media where our football 'experts' supposedly reside.

with all due respect Robbo, you are arguably the best poster on here (not just due to your connection to the club) but the media have given us an absolute 'FREE RIDE" this season. It is most likely because we are so darn irrelevant that we don't warrant a mention (we didn't even make the AFL's 'Likes and Dislikes' article last night LOL! - I think Hammo feels as frustrated as we do and he has good links at the club, the article whilst unlikely to win him a walkley, is the sort of thing the club, players coaches need ATM - the media need to start putting pressure on us, people will dis-agree but I liked the article. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. The pressure needs to go on, it's his third year as coach and the players should be ashamed of their effort on Saturday, it was beyond deplorable.

I think there's time for in depth looks at things, and time for an 'emotional' piece if you will. Can't say there would be a better time for AH to go in on the team. He is obviously privy to all this 'player driven' stuff that went on over the off season - so he is probly feeling like they are 'Brats' - they got rid of Vossy (in the end in a round about way), they haven't embraced Leppa at all, they wan't to play a certain way, they wan't him to be more personable, they don't like what happened with ZOB, they wan't big contracts without the runs on the board.... Wack.. wack.. goes hammo and rightly so.

I don't want emotional pieces by football 'experts' in the main-stream media, most of whom don't even support the club they are writing about. If editors want emotional pieces, interview a supporter or someone invested emotionally in the club. From the football media, I want an analytical insight into the problems a club might be having on and/or off the field.

That could be based on inside knowledge, but there aren't any specific details to make it deniable. So we can't be sure whether it's based on a credible source, or if Hamilton is presenting an opinion the same way he did above.

It may eventuate that Leppitsch can’t coach. I have concerns that the Lions don’t put enough emphasis on the opposition in their planning.

Here Hamilton does make it clear that he's voicing an opinion. But we don't know what it's based on. Someone has possibly fed that back to him, but it's just as likely that it's his own observations from watching the team, which frankly are about as valid as the opinions of anyone here.

But because he peppers his articles with lines like this...

Its already started. First on Offsiders with and now on Robbo's SEN segment.

Hopefully all four programs tonight put us under the microscope and start applying the pressure.

Couple of interesting callers on SEN with one claiming to have some inside info which certainly hasn't placed the club's players and their arrogance around the club in a positive light. Many of our players need a severe reality check.

A few weeks ago I was quite anxious about Taylor and Green re-signing but given they're apparently asking for quite a bit more than what we're offering, I have no problem should the club hold firm given their lack of output. Would be pretty disappointed if Lewy was the sort whose character would be questioned given his background.
