Bruce Weber intended to move lock-stock into the AFL (under the prevailing structure of Reserves, U19, U17) as part of the first bid.

Second bid, Bucky intended to retain the Magpies in the SANFL in a ‘one club’ manner similar to what we had circa 2011-2013, but the SA Football Commission refused after other clubs complained we’d funnel rivers of AFL gold into the already dominant Magpies and never lose again.

The subsequent ultimatum was shelve the Magpies completely, or divorce SANFL operations elsewhere. Bucky and the club chose the latter, hence Ethelton and the PAMFC.

At no stage did the PAFC advocate breaking it's ties with the SANFL. In fact that is what the SANFL argued we would do.

I firmly believe that game was a stitch up by North Melbourne. The commentators said that they hadn't played like that for the six weeks under Shaw, and suddenly they come out and completely change their style, going from being a long and direct team that gets it on the boot fast to one that runs the ball in waves like Essendon and the Bulldogs do? It was a sucker punch game that we couldn't prepare for, because all our forward scouting and preparation was thrown out the window. Absolutely meaningless.

So what you're saying is our coaching staff are incapable of adjusting on the fly, even against inferior opposition?

The games you should be looking at are the GWS game where we failed to capitalise on easy shots at goal (the Sam Gray fu** up) and then continually bombed it in to make it somebody else's problem, the Richmond game where we did the same, and the first Adelaide game where we...you guessed it...did the same.

I'll say it again: no coach in the league, I don't care who it is, is instructing their players to just bomb it into the forward line when there are multiple defenders back there to intercept. No coach in the league is telling players to kick the ball to the advantage of the defender time and time again.

Guess which coach didn't select any genuine natural KPF's for either of those games who might have helped us bring the ball to ground and capitalise on one of those many, many late forward entries?

Those Richmond and GWS games are the two absolute shining examples of why Ken Hinkley should be sacked. Both of those losses are 100% on him making the same team selection mistakes he's been making and apparently not learning from for the past 5 years.

Exactly. However, the “law that is not recognised” isn’t Dixon and Marshall playing together. It’s Marshall being in good enough form to be selected that is the key. When he’s in form, he can use his athleticism to play off Dixon’s strength.

But only when he’s in form. Which means he’s providing the forward pressure of a general forward when the ball is on the ground like he did against Sydney with 8 tackles, and hitting the contest.

It’s like Broadbent and Burton - for some reason as soon as Burton comes into the side, Broadbent’s performance plummets - he went from games where he racked up double digits in AFL ranking points to games below a 5 with Burton in the side. But Burton didn’t play well either. So the problem isn’t that either player sucks, but that they don’t have the connection on field to become greater than the sum of their parts.

Same thing with Byrne-Jones. As soon as Burton came back into the lineup, he was lost at sea after a BOG performance the week before. Chance? Nope - Burton just wasn’t on the same wavelength as the others.

These things will get better next season. Those who choose to stick around will reap the rewards. Those that want to bail won’t.

So what your saying is that it just so happens that every time Hinkley selected Marshall he was right and every time he didn't he was right then too.

The SANFL’s original tender process for the second licence stated that bids which reduced the size of the competition to 8 teams (thus eliminating the bye) would be preferred, and studiously worked towards that stipulation.

Once that changed, and it was an Etheltonised PAMFC or dissolve, he and the club chose the former.

He’s previously given the rationale that he couldn’t deny a kid from the LeFevre or Eyre Peninsulas the chance to don the prisonbar as he had.

His form is essentially pointless. His performance on game day is all that matters. Marshall's performance in the AFL is variable. Knowing this is the case the fact is that when he is selected with Dixon we have a significantly better winning percentage than when he and Dixon are not. It doesn't matter if he has good enough form to be selelcted. The results show that he just needs to be selected.

Can you demonstrate the effect of selecting Burton on the win/loss outcome of games? You're happy to use ranking points, but on the whole no one gives a s**t about them.

As tribey has posted above the tender for the second SA AFL licence stipulated that tenderers specify how the SNAFL was to be reduced to an eight team comp if they were successful.

The club put out a fact sheet on the entire process which I have referenced and quoted from numerous times over the years. If Bucky said something different in his chat with FishingRick04 then he was mistaken.

I listened to it. It’s was an evolving situation in response to fluid stipulations. The scenario as it’s being relayed, wasn’t binary.
