Meesen is a gun!

Yeah, nah.

Look, if he even becomes an average ruckman we've done OK out of the deal. He was a highly rated youngster but a complete spudnik I've been told by my friends at the Crows. Any chance we can get rid of Jamar now??

Jamar's still our best ruckman, why get rid of him?

Sure the Meese has been good these first 2 games, but if he and PJ can't keep up those kind of performances as they did on Sunday then Jamar should be brought in for one of them.

Becuase he is terrible. I was only joking, by the way, we can't get rid of him because we are so shizen. But I honestly can't think of another AFL team that would have him (and thats including Freo and Richmond). And while Spencer is raw and Meesen still unknown....we hold onto Jamar....but we don't like it

Correction made.

Meeson has some physical presence and his skills are quite good. While Jamar's slow and his kicking is shocking. We have to keep Jamar but Meeson should be picked ahead of him if he continues doing what he does. He adds versitility to the team and Helps Johnson out as he's much fitter than Jamar

IMO, i dont think he has been unleased at all, i thought he played very average, he made some taps, big deal...

I think there was a moment where Dunn i think (correct me if im wrong) kicked from outside 50 towards goal, all Meesen had to do was defend to let the ball through, instead he puts his hands up and spoils it :thumbsd:

Its strange how he could be get a kick at VFL but has stepped up abd played some good footy at AFL level. Some players just get better as the standard around them gets better, i would like to see him kick it more it's to obvious every time he gets the ball he wants to handball it.

We still need Jamar he is a great competitor and one thing has been proven with him not being in the side is he is very accountable player.

Big guys take time to develop. You need to give a ruckman a good 4 or 5 years before you know he will be any good or not. Most of us just don't have that patience. Meesen has all the right characteristics to be a good ruckman he just hasn't put it together yet. Now he is starting to show a glimmer of his poential. Do not be surprised if he drops off again but the signs are good. Pies have the same issues with Wood.

Johnson seems to be the worry to me. He is having some shockers when I thought he would stand up being #1. Jamar will come back in but if Johnson doesn't improve Meesen may claim his #2 spot. Can Johnson play as a back or forward?

How is Jesse Spencer going now the hype has died down? No chance of a comeback unless injuries happen you would think.

I dont really rate Jamar, but we should keep him even though he is very slow, he can take a good grab and is not a bad kick. Meeson is better than Jamar on the past 2 performances, he is more mobile the Jamar.

I hate to open up another can of worms but how important are ruckman in todays game. Cox is undoubtably the best, but I'd say it would be difficult to split a good chunk of the rest. As long as they're not a spud, keep them and draft a gun midfield. No issues with not picking one in last years draft, and wouldn't care if we didn't get one this year (and definatley wouldnt be keen to use a 1st or 2nd rounder). Warnock might have been alright for a 2nd or 3rd rounder, as he wasnt as raw. But a 1st rounder (inc priorities) would have been ridiculous.

Hence, these performances from a young Spencer and Meesen are pleasing me.

Ruckman are very important when you haven't got one. So long as you have someone competing in the middle and not giving the opposition a clear advantage, then they are doing their job. Just look at my team in the first 3-4 rounds without Robbie Campbell :)

As a Norwood (SANFL) supporter, I just want to say I am delighted to hear Meesen is starting to work out for you guys. He played for us for 3 years and I never doubted he had the ability, just wondered sometimes if he had the grunt. Great stuff to the big fella :thumbsu:

BTW ... we'd like Wonaeamirri back if it's not too much to ask :)

Agree 100%. I don't think Campbell and Taylor are superstars, they merely hold their own. I think a few ruck combo's could be put in that category. I would like to think in time Meesen and Spencer will be able to hold their own. Gun mid's will do the rest.

I love it how everyone, and I mean everyone, bagged me for defending Meesen and even a few Melbourne supporters took a crack at this "Drummond fellow" who pumped him up.

I guess I'm not so clueless after all...

Funny thread this.

He's had one good game and now he's a potential cult hero. Let's see how he goes over a couple of months against some decent opposition. Me thinks you are getting a wee bit ahead of yourselves. Good luck to him and Melbourne this year though (just not this week).

1. He's played 2 good games.

2. He's come up against some more than decent opposition in those 2 games in Brogan, Lade and Simmonds.

3. He's had more hitouts than all his opposing ruckmen in those 2 games, he's lead both games in hitouts.

Nobody is getting ahead of themselves, most of those posts in here are jokes. We know he's only played 2 games, he's just surprised us by how well he has done in both those games.

You defend every norwood player.

At least its one more good game than he had with us!

You don't need to have any good games to be a cult figure on this board.

Gimme a 4-2-6!
