Megadeth has and always will be 100 times better than Metallica. Dave Mustaine Carried metallica and the only reason there first 4 albums were any good was because they were using all of his old material. Fact

........Holy wars rulez

Spelling means little in the grand scheme of the awsomeness level of their music. Anyway Mechanics isn't spelt Mechanix

I agree, Megadeth is and always will be better than Metallica. They have consistently brought out great releases over the last 20+ years (minus Risk). Metallica obviously haven't. Having said that i'm currently on the Ticketek website trying to land tix to Metallica in November. Megadeth still own though!

They both have their ups and downs, and they're both pretty even across the board. For example, I'd say in the 80's Metallica were better, while in the 90's Megadeth were better.

In the end, I love them both.

I think Megadeth are more technical and their music is much more impressive but Metallica have been more innovative and commercially friendly, and have managed to keep pretty much the same group of musicians, while Megadeth has only got Dave Mustaine (God) from their original Line-up. I like them both equally, saw Megadeth last October and got Metallica tickets for November! :thumbsu:

Who the hell cares who's better, in your opinion by the way. I'm a massive Metallica fan, they're my favourite band, but I enjoy a lot of Megadeth's material. Both are great bands.

Metallica, only because of their 80's material. I've never really been able to like Megadeth. For some reason, their material seems weak compared to the best work of Metallica. Working in Megadeth's favour though is the fact they didn't completely lose the plot during the 90's unlike their cousins. Anything after Black up to and including St.Anger is truly awful stuff.

P.S: As a thrash band, Kreator is better than both of them :D

Wow, a Megadeth v Metallica debate..must be the first of its kind...

Metallica's early material used as many of Kirk Hammet's old Exodus riffs as they did Mustaine's. And in reality, it was only a handful anyway.

The first 3 Megadeth albums were patchy at best while the first 4 Metallica albums are all classics. Unfortunatley, Megadeth have always been the 'little brother', even though nowdays they are putting out significantly better material than Metallicash.

Now where is that Priest v Iron Maiden thread.....must be round here somewhere....??

Edit Note: Kreator's last decade has been much stronger than either of these two bands anyway..as Zarrix rightly points out.

In case you've been living under a rock, Junior has been back in Megadeth for a good while now. Megadeth is also made up of extremely talented musicians, Dave only gets the best. Broderick is a freak.
Lars and Kirk (todays version) aren't much chop.

I like Metallica. I love Megadeth.
I'm going to both Melb shows for Metallica, and I'm praying 'Deth come back in 2011 too.

Yeah nah, Peace Sells is a bonafide classic in any thrash lover's book.

I'd say Metallica wins this.

Ride The Lightning was such an ear opener for the future of metal music.

Fight Fire With Fire was the first time a song was played with fast bass drums.

Still have Metallicas old catalogue on vinyl since when I bought them when they came out on the Music For Nations label.

Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets-2 seminal albums.

Can't listen to em today though.

Rather listen to some Led Zep hehe.

As for Megadeth,Mustaine's voice eeew.

Up there with Guns N Roses Axel Rose as the worst singers in rock history.

I was more of an Anthrax fan anyways.

Scott Ian !!!!!!!!!!!!

This!

I never knew there was a band called Megadeath. What music do they play? On the other hand, Megadeth are pretty amazing on their own right, just like Metallica.

Fates Warning and Mercyful Fate both had better albums in the 80's than either Metallica or Megadeth :)

For what it's worth, my vote goes to Metallica just for Ride The Lightning. I don't really like Megadeth.

Holy shit how could I forget . Guess it still hasn't sunk in really but I am a fan club member of both bands.

Jesus still can't believe I forgot about Junior.

Rust in Peace is one of the greatest albums of all time, along with Master of Puppets & Reign in Blood of course.

Frankly I also really love Youthanasia for different reasons, I'd take it over the black album. Also loved Anthrax's Stomp 442 would you believe? Bush was born to sing with guitar like that.

We should grow 80's metal mullets and get some cut denim to argue Megadeth v Metallica properly. Marty > Kirk :D

Why stop there?

Broderick, Poland, Marty>>>>Kirk

And for funs sake, Gar, Behler, Menza, Degrasso and Drover>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Lars, although that one's a bit too obvious :D

And in my opinion:
KIMB<<<KEA
PSBWB=RTL (toughy)
SFSGSW<<<MoP
RIP>AJFA (This one's tough, AJFA is my favourite Tallica album but RIP is my favourite album of all time)
CtE>TBA
Youth>Load
CW=ReLoad (both crap)
Risk= St Anger (/facepalm)
TWNAH<Death Magnetic
Endgame>>UA>>TSHF>>Death Magnetic

Megadeth nabs the win in this bare bones comparison... :p

I have it
KEA > KIMB
RTL = PSBWB (if RtL didn't have Escape I'd have it ahead)
MOP >>> SFSGSW (Anarchy is shit)
AJFA << RIP
TBA > CTE
Load <<< Youth
Reload > Cryptic
St. Anger >>>>Risk (both are absolute shit albums but Risk is just terri-bad)
Endgame>> DM >> UA >>TWNAH = TSHF

MOP > RIP > RTL = PSBWB > AJFA > Endgame > SFSGSW > TBA > CTE > DM > Youth > KEA > KIMB > UA > Reload > Load > TWNAH = TSHF > Cryptic>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>St. Anger >>>>>> Risk.

and
Guitar
Marty > Chris > Dave > Kirk > Poland > Drover

Overall
Hetfield = Dave >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.. everyone else

Drums
Menza > Drover > Gar > Lars

Bass
Cliff > Junior > Jason >>>>>>>>> James >>>>Rob (get some new moves)

Overall they are equal in my opinion.

Surprised you rate Death Magnetic over United Abominations. Death Magnetic is so bland. Not saying UA is that good though.

Gar behind Menza and Drover!?!?
I'm a drummer (and a bassist on occassion) and Gar's technical ability is just amazingly impressive. PSBWB is incredibly hard to drum along to.

With the bassists, I assume you're including stage presence? Otherwise Jason would be dead last on ability (love the guy, wish he was still with them. He made them super powerful live). Very harsh on Rob, he's a pretty mean bassist in terms of ability. I'd have him ahead of Lomenzo at the very least.
