not sure if posting the cure makes me some kind of *** in these parts but i find it quite brooding. normally associate it with an ex-girlfriend who was quite a cure fan.

the verve - slide away. one of many (early) verve songs that pisses on bittersweet from a great height and that all the kids who latched on because of bittersweet, will have criminally overlooked.

A few from Mr Nick Drake, the king of melancholy. Happy days!

Favourite song :thumbsu:[/QUOTE]

You know, I bought urban hymns based on Bittersweat, sonnet and the Drugs Don't Work and I have to say I actually found many songs boring.

People rave about the verve and i must say that i never got into them. I disliked the bitter sweet symphony song so never gave them a chance after that.

Yeah that's your problem you have to go before that album lol
The guitar work of Nick Mccabe is out of this world. The first 4 songs off "A Storm in Heaven" are superb and possibly the best opening to an album i've ever heard.
Having said that I tend to agree with you that a lot of their newer stuff is boring. Basically the barometer is the guitarist in this band and i'm pretty sure him and Ashcroft don't get along as they've broken up many a time as recent as 2009 I think.

Good call.

Speaking of Nick Drake, and Anathema, the Anathema guitarist/main songwriter Danny Cavanagh did a not too bad solo tribute album for Nick Drake.

He doesn't match Nick Drake's voice, but I guess that's why he's normally the guitarist. :p

haha good until he came in vocally! Zero range - should of found himself someone to sing it would of been bloody good! Respect for covering it though
