Same with the horse he nearly beat at MV last year? If we had WFA 2 mile races the history books would be re-written with regards to horses perceived ability. Because it's BMW or bust for most of these horses we never actually know what they can do except for 1 race a year.
The problem with Australian races is that most of the races at 2400m and beyond are handicaps, there is only two WFA races at 2400m - the G1 BWM and G2 Sandown Classic. Most WFA races are run at sprinting distances, at a mile and at 2000m.
Basically once a horse wins the Melbourne Cup, they need to be good enough / versatile enough to win at WFA cos most of those races are at shorter distances. Ive always said there should be more 2400m races at WFA, this would then cater for Cup winners who are weighted out of the Melbourne Cup but they can still run well at WFA at 2400m which I guess is the starting point for staying races.
