Are there any actual females on this board?

I know that I enjoy various posters avatars (yes, I am actually looking at you Cannon82).

I'm not looking to pick up, just curious as to whether the lack of females is an indicator of our club supporters, our board, BigFooty in general?

How could we attract more and retain them? I'm working from the premise that more would be better obviously.

Okay, that last sentence is to increase the likelyhood of picking up. ;)

I echo the sentiments of most on this board in that it is very good. Lots of good robust discussion and very little childish name calling. The mods are pretty even handed in keeping control too. Well done all.

I know of one, who shall of course remain nameless. BigFooty definitely seems like a man's world though... Not sure how we change that.

I could invite the missus to join the board, but then she would probably spend 99% of her posts discussing how hot Colin Garland is, and how if he ever went to another club she would burn the MFC to the ground.

Seriously though I've found female footy supporters often bring a different way of thinking about the game and the issues surrounding it, so yes having more on here would definitely be a good thing.

Also, I'm interested to know, what constitutes a nonactual female?

On the BF Melbourne board we value poster feedback however it doesn't help if it is given in regular threads as they obviously go off topic.

For posters who wish to offer general feedback on varying board issues there is this thread. Remember your feedback is public. If you wish it to be private then feel free to PM a board mod/s.

This thread is not for arguing with other posters, it is purely for posters to offer feedback and have constructive interaction. Opinions are sacrosanct in this thread.

We ask that all feedback be given respectfully and without reference to any other specific posters.

Cheers.

Feedback for the collective:

I know we have all been burned badly by the last decade, but we need to liven up and stop the negative nancy crap. This board on its game can be one of the funniest places around. (I rate The Cut as one of the best threads ever on BF, including The Bay) Right now though, the tendency is to lay into players with no regard and jump at fear to everything.

Well you know what? We just knocked off the Cats in Geelong. We have as many wins at the bye as we have had in any of the last three years. Sure, knowing the MFC it'll turn to shit tomorrow but do we have to be so frustratingly abusive right now?

Just a thought.

Can we stop closing or locking threads or deleting posts when the debate is actually interesting. What's negative to some people is calling it what it is to others. You happy positive energy people need to cater for more than your own viewpoints. We're here to discuss; go to the games and cheer the team on if that's all you want to do.

What I've always liked about this boats is posters who have been willing to stick there neck out and offer opinions that the majority don't agree with

We should be able to pick out faults in players, let's face it the majority of players don't make it but there are still members here who insist that with time everyone will be a champion
Well the cold hard facts are that almost every player has weaknesses and I like being the one to spot them before its common knowledge

I agree. It's not about being the thought police, it's about the continued bashing regardless of output. The Watts and Toump bashing are endemic. While I certainly recognize that both have their flaws, both are quietly having pretty good years (Watts since the self-dropping). What we are saying on here isn't lining up with the main thrust of the media about these two guys. There are certainly other whipping boys (looking at you Messers 44 and 45) but we as a collective need to cool it. It's not endearing, it doesn't encourage discussion and it sure as hell doesn't attract fans.

There are actual females on the board. Know for a fact

What do you class as interesting debate?

Recently we've deleted a lot of posts which do not come close to that category in our eyes.

Can you give us a couple of examples so we know what you mean?

So you like to cast aspersions on every player on the list, with the exception of your favourites? I see why: you can call good judgement whenever you are proven right, and ride the wave of optimism and let your baseless criticism slide when wrong.

Again, is that supporting?

I see your point.

In this case I think it's fair to make early observations on players if he likes doing so - provided it's not mindless abuse.

We can't force one 'standard' of being a supporter on everyone.

While I'm more inclined (like yourself) to give all our players many chances to improve and perform, especially those I deem worth the extra time and am happy to talk about weaknesses in certain players if talked about rationally - we can't impose that same characteristic on everybody, especially if there is discussion and not just abuse.

Id love to engage you but RandB made it fairly clear a couple posts up

I started a thread on Sam blease years ago, I said I though he was no good and that he could run fast and not much else , I copped abuse left right and centre that he would improve and blah blah
I'd say at this point I'm fairly vindicated on ol bleasey

I also was talking up Cam pederson and Nev Jetta before they became a very reliable player last year, I'm not hear just to slag blokes

I think I'm fairly reasonable , and I do enjoy pointing out areas that players need to improve and I'm happy to offer an opinion on whether I think they can

We aren't censoring opinion here.

We just want all posters to be mindful of the difference between a constructive exchange of opinions and feedback compared to arguing.

Whilst general feedback is preferable if you feel you need to reply to another poster just keep it civil and constructive and we're happy.

But there is a flipside. We're allowed negative opinions too. Blindly supporting the boys through thick or thin isn't for everyone, and I like to think most of us are intelligent enough to be able to criticize without blindly bashing a player for past indiscretions.

Far as I'm concerned, I try to play a straight bat. I've been quieter this year not because I have less opinions, but because circumstances have dictated that I watch less footy. I don't trust myself to make judgements without viewing it with a Mark I eyeball, at least not among you guys who are for the most part fairly astute.

We're pretty good on here. We don't play the man, we try to be funny a lot. Just need to clean up some of the mob mentality.

Probably the best club board on BF - though I haven't ever visited a couple. Unofficial preview has to stay - even if there are a few gaps - because all have been v good and some outstanding. And I like it as a spot where opposition supporters are likely to drop in.

I don't know exactly what you do about negativity - in a way if the rueful gloom evaporated totally it just wouldn't be MFC. Likewise how you balance critical opinions without it becoming a dispute that gets ugly, or being general censorship. By and large though mods generally step in with a pretty good sense of balance.

Interesting to me is what seems to be looked on as 'heated' debate by mods, with a need to step in. Let the children play.

Not going to dredge up posts. My two cents is that unless people move on to the sexual proclivities of another poster's family members then it's all good. Again, we're here to discuss things, positive and negative. If you applied the same brush to the match day thread when we lose you'd delete half the stuff getting posted.

We all know that matchday is an exception given the emotion.

Do we? News to me. I figured it was indulged because the mods enjoyed the venting as well.

You can see the fundamental difference between match day and general discussion threads if you try. It's the same for any team board tbh.

People call it like they see it and are given some latitude in how they express things in match day as long as they don't abuse other posters and violate general BF guidelines. It has always been like this but if you were seeking some sort of official clarification then that's fair enough, "here it is".

Do you see me venting in the matchday thread?

Provided you aren't attacking other posters I (not sure about the other mods) dont have much issue with matchday thread venting.

I think you're trying to make this too black and white, what we're cautioning against is more a grey area.
