Autopsy Melbourne board feedback thread

Do you see me venting in the matchday thread?

Provided you aren't attacking other posters I (not sure about the other mods) dont have much issue with matchday thread venting.

I think you're trying to make this too black and white, what we're cautioning against is more a grey area.

Would you like me to follow you around and tap you on the shoulder if you do? Was referring to a couple of your colleagues. I don't care if people vent, I'll skip it if I don't want to read it.

How so? I'm saying don't censor at all. We've all got ignore lists we can fill up if we really dislike what particular people say.

Match day is a very poor example to use in the greater scheme of this positive discussion. It lasts a couple of hours and then is closed each week.

Very rarely do posters rebut other posters ad nauseam. Match day follows the game just like physically being at the game - you watch it, you're either happy or peeved then you go home and get on with your life.

Yes there will be disagreements and venting but it is no where near comparable to the general discussion threads which are open either weekly or perpetually. As mods we have not received one single PM from a concerned poster regarding the conduct of match day.

I'm not particularly interested in discussing the match day thread, was just using it as an example of some of the discussion that goes on.

Anyway, this is swiftly spiralling nowhere so I'm moving on to other equally disinteresting things.

Im amazed that people PM you at all (unless for personal harassment) . Why bother even being a member of a forum if you are going to report/pm stuff you disagree or dont like?

We aren't payed (well at least I'm not) cheerleaders of the MFC, Matt Burgan style, so its never going to be rainbows and smiles from all of us.

There are certain posters who i think post utter dribble as well (yes, i know, pot, kettle, black) but just because it doesn't suit my tastes why should it worry me? Different strokes, different folks, opions, arseholes etc etc

The only time I ever report is like that dumb St Kilda troll.

How could we not censor given some of the off topic posts recently? This is a forum, opinions are welcome as is player criticism.

On the provision it isn't consistently vitriolic and personal.

It's that simple.

Yep, I've only made two reports in my time on BF. Both from the same suspected clown who inboxed me utter filth. What was inside each inbox should be handled with by the police, I've made this known to the powers that be.

You can move the posts to relevant thread instead of deleting them. Don't you want to keep them handy when Jimmy Toumpas is giving his Brownlow acceptance speech?

I've had a couple of mine deleted and I'm not really sure why.

Interesting to me is what seems to be looked on as 'heated' debate by mods, with a need to step in. Let the children play.

Not going to dredge up posts. My two cents is that unless people move on to the sexual proclivities of another poster's family members then it's all good. Again, we're here to discuss things, positive and negative. If you applied the same brush to the match day thread when we lose you'd delete half the stuff getting posted.
True, the match day thread is like watching someone with Bipolar go from low to high & back down again all in the space of 3 hours. But its more organic & more emotionally driven than most threads. Especially supporting the MFC.

Examples of that would be the GWS & Dogs games.

Do we? News to me. I figured it was indulged because the mods enjoyed the venting as well.
Would you like to expand on this please?

Serious suggestion - could we have a thread where the deleted posts go to die? Or is that loading too much effort on mods? Obviously not the ones that are removed as offensive, but the general off topic stuff could find a home. If people wanted to follow the tangent discussion they could follow the moved post. It has some merit for transparency - might be quite a funny thread.

Okay - this is probably a complicated plan that couldn't be worked, but I do quite like the idea

I want to make a distinction here between censorship of off-topic nonsense, and censorship of opinion.

The first kind is what happens when posters get carried away talking trash and posting youtube links. We have threads for that sort of banter, and as mods our job is to keep it out of the threads where people want to talk footy. So we have deleted a fair bit of useless crap lately.

The second kind is what we don't want happening.

Personally, lately I have been annoyed by what I perceive as overly negative talk about our good mate Toumpas. I have made my thoughts known on the matter, but I stress that my posts on the topic were not made with my "mod hat" on. I'm sorry if it came across like I was trying to stifle debate as a moderator - I wasn't. I posted on the topic as a regular on the board, not as somebody trying to control everyone's opinion.

There's a better alternative to that. We can kindly remind posters not to take threads off topic (which we've done the last 2 or 3 weeks) in the expectation that it will be heeded.

Having said that, we are considering ways we can better structure the board so that player specific discussion is in the right place. The 'Change Rooms' is not used to great effect and we want to accommodate all posters with player specific discussion. One consideration is moving all player threads in the 'Change Rooms' to the main board. We will get some input from Admin on this.

We may digress sometimes, but if that's the issue, move the posts, don't disappear them.

Have a gander at the thread the last time we lost. I'm sure you can find something.
I know what to look for & where to find it, but I'm more interested in the inference made about why posts are allowed.

It does take more effort but we can discuss this as an option. The bay has something like this for failed threads.

Heated discussion on Jimmy Toumpas - posts disappear
More heated discussion in match day threads - kosher

I'm not making some X Files conspiracy post, just pointing it out. Someone taking the time to detail the many ways a player is useless in the cold light of day is more informative and worth reading than banging into the keyboard what a useless ****ing campaigner they are in the heat of the moment.

Anyway, moving on for me. Stop quoting my posts you dishlickers.

I'll believe that when it happens mate.

There's not always a relevant thread - recently things have been getting so off topic that we have deleted more readily than previously.

I dont see a whole heap wrong with a bit of off topic banter in a thread. Surely its not that bad?

I have a lot of people on here that i consider mates, well internet mates, as I've never met them, so long as there is nobody picking on any poster/personal harassment i hardly see the issue with a bit of off topic fun between 'internet mates' ever now and then.

Is it really that hard to scroll down past it? Index finger pain must be excruciating for some.

Feedback:

Can we stop closing or locking threads or deleting posts when the debate is actually interesting. What's negative to some people is calling it what it is to others. You happy positive energy people need to cater for more than your own viewpoints. We're here to discuss; go to the games and cheer the team on if that's all you want to do.

None of the mods have a problem with the odd digression mate. If we did we would have mentioned it years ago. This is one of the most light-hearted, least restricted boards on BF. IMO the best team board on BF and that is because of its posters.

The last month particularly however, some of the standard threads such as Trade, Draft etc have not just had the usual digression or light hearted interaction but gone completely off the charts. It has been noticeable to many posters and the mods. The requests to get back on topic have been general requests and not aimed at specific posters to date.

As far as moving posts, well, don't take this personally but as mods we use discretion as to what gets deleted and what gets moved based on the content.

I call bullshit. Which of you mods is Jimmy Toumpas?

I know I'm not admin but as this is the feedback thread I'll say that I don't really like this idea. Other club boards do it and I think it unnecessarily clutters the board up. I'd also suggest it will make your jobs harder as mods, just because the discussions will be more thinly spread and it'll be harder to get across everything. Come to think of it this goes the same for readers of these topics as well.

It's a shame that the change rooms aren't really used but I think what needs to be said about players either gets said in the GBU/changes threads, or their own mainboard thread if it really warrants it.
