BigFooty Melbourne Board - Rules of Engagement

BigFooty Commandments

All posters must adhere to the BigFooty Terms of Service and Rules

On registration you agreed to not use the forum to submit or link to any Content which is:
  • defamatory,
  • hateful,
  • threatening,
  • abusive,
  • spam or spam-like,
  • likely to offend,
  • contains adult or objectionable content,
  • contains personal information of others,
  • risks copyright infringement,
  • encourages unlawful activity,
  • or otherwise violates any laws.

Additional Melbourne Board general rules*
  1. The moderators aren't aren't online 24/7 and don't necessarily read every post. If you see something that you take offence to or is a breach of the forum rules, click the Report Post icon in the offensive post and it will be moderated. It is always good to post why you feel the post warranted being reported & why you are offended.
  2. Melbourne Board and The Change Rooms are for football related discussion (all other talk should be kept to Hell or other boards). If you have an idea for a thread the you feel warrants being on the main board despite not being directly football related PM a mod so they can give you the thumbs up to proceed.
  3. Melbourne supporters are allowed to think, say & do what they want (within reason) on the Melbourne Board as long as no Big Footy rules are broken. Opposition supporters criticising Melbourne supporters for posts, thoughts or views on the Melbourne Board may be infracted.
  4. If a Melbourne poster has been trolling your board then please inform your moderator to deal with that individual rather than take revenge here. Serious infractions will be given to all opposition trolls regardless of alleged trolling by Melbourne supporters on your own board.
  5. We have somewhat relaxed the policy on lighthearted banter from oppositions supporters but if you blatantly troll or flame Melbourne supporters YOU WILL BE INFRACTED. If you do have the desire to have a bit of fun at our expense please keep all banter to this thread or the unofficial previews that's what they are there for & unless you break the site commandments you won't be infracted.
  6. This thread will be updated as required so it is suggested that you check out this thread to make sure none of the rules of the board have changed & keep yourself up to date.
  7. If your a new poster, get a feel for the board & how it operates before posting. We love new blood on the MFC board & want it to continue to grow & be the place to be for all MFC supporters, so come on board but take the time to get to know our group of posters.
None of the rules here are new, we just wanted to reiterate what they are so that all can be aware of what they are & that they will be enforced.**

Once more, if you are not sure ask a moderator first.

* This is a living document with rules that may be added or updated, so check this thread regularly for updates & any additional information that may be added.
** Whenever the rules are updated or something new added the last update date will be changed in the thread title so use that as a guide also as to when we add or update any info.

Feedback:

If you have any ideas, suggestions or feedback, please contact one of the moderators for consideration of your ideas. We welcome innovative ideas & suggestions that can help the board flourish, so please share you ideas with us.

Or visit this thread:

** Melbourne Board - Suggestion & feedback thread, give us your suggestions **

If you have any issues with moderators on other boards we don’t want to hear it. If you have a problem with another mod discuss it with them, DO NOT bring it onto this board.

If you have a problem with a mod on this board take it up with them. Don’t start a thread about it, don’t post you grievances’ on another board, that will not end well. PM the mod you have an issue with & take it up with him in private.

Posting articles:

Entire articles are not to be posted. This includes in private boards and social groups. Breaking this rule will lead to warnings and infractions. The exception to this rule is if the material/article you are posting is your own intellectual property. In this case the article must be posted in its entirety.

The Official BIG rule is now:

Headline
link
Excerpt up to a paragraph
link
comment

Note: Simply posting nothing more than "Discuss", "Thoughts" or similar as your opening comment will land you an infraction.

Keep in mind

It is your responsibility to know and abide by these rules. Playing the "I didn't know the rules" card is NOT an excuse. Ignorance apparently can be bliss but all it will get you here is a holiday.

Obviously these guidelines also apply to Hell & change rooms.

Remember common sense is a wonderful thing, use it. Sadly it is one of the worlds rarest comodities. The rules are just meant to keep the board enjoyable for everyone and not just a few. So have fun and remember that this is a shared online community not just a platform for your gripes and grievances or opinions. So take it easy, get to know people, build rapport, and your experience will be so much better as you will become part of our community.

As has been mentioned this thread & the rules may be subject to change so please keep reviewing this thread from information & any updates. Some useful links may also be added to assist with navigation around our board.

Good luck & happy posting.

Regards,

Dees Board Mods

Feedback relating to the Melbourne board.

Any feedback should be directed to the MFC board mods via PM for the time being.

Or you can visit the ** Melbourne Board - Suggestion & feedback thread, give us your suggestions ** (Click it to be linked) to table any ideas, feedback or suggestions to help continue grow our board.

Also you might want to subscribe to this thread. Click the "Tools" tab & then click on subscribe & it will come up on you BF page whenever it is updated.

Streaming of matches

There has been quite a number of posters asking for links to streams of the game on the board recently, unless these links you are asking for are legal, please refrain from requesting such links.

Those offering links that are not of a legal nature please discontinue this also as it just encourages others to ask for them.

We don't care if it's via PM, we don't want to see it discussed or requested on this board. From this point on it will not be accepted & saying you didn't know will not be an acceptable excuse.

As stated LEGAL links are fine (eg: AFL site replay).

This is everyone's official warning, so don't say you weren't told. Before posting you are expected to review the site rules & before posting on the Melbourne board you are not only to expected to know our rules but have been asked to also review the site rules.

Any questions PM a mod.

Regards,

The idea of this thread is to make as many “important” threads as possible accessible without cluttering the board.

We have many requests for threads to be stickied, but the more we stick the more cluttered the board becomes & the less inclined we are to notice the threads that require attention. So for all intents & purposes that is exactly what this thread is for, giving you access to threads of importance, information & interest without having to search the board.

In this thread you will find links to important threads you will most likely visit regularly such as:

Special Threads

These are threads considered to be special due to the nature of the content.

We would like all individual discussion on players to be discussed/posted in The Change Rooms. The reason is to focus more of our player & coaching discussion there & grow the board so it is used for its intended purpose. The board is massively underutilised & it would be great if we can send the discussion over there.

If we use the board for what its intended for (discussion of individual players & coaches) then anyone who wants to discuss, get info or relate an experience will know that’s the place to go to find out the latest of post the latest on a player.

I’m going to try to post all links to news & the like there from now on & I urge everyone else to do the same. Of course a huge story would need its own thread on the main board but general discussion pertaining to an individual player should go there. New threads started will be merged there. Some may be given a little time on the main board but eventually will be merged with the players or coaches thread in the change rooms.

Player-specific Threads

Guys, just a heads up as to how we will go about maintaining player threads this year.

If you wish to post a basic article about a player, have some other player news (say via a tweet or word of mouth) or just wish to make a general comment about a player, we encourage that you post it in that player's thread in 'The Change Rooms' directly rather than making a new thread on the main board.

If you wish to invoke a more in depth discussion about a player or raise some serious news/issues then by all means post your thread on the main board. We will in due course though redirect that thread to 'The Change Rooms' for discussion to continue there.

So if you see that a thread of yours has been redirected and want to know why, it isn't because we deem it "unworthy" of staying on the main board it is more that we are encouraging and promoting the use of 'The Change Rooms' and hope that the player threads there become a better place for discussion throughout the year.

cheers.

Mods.

Re: Player-specific Threads

Good points RandB.

We want the players thread in 'The Change Rooms' to be somewhat of a hub of information & as encouraged a place to post links to news articles or the like. To be able to use their thread as somewhat of a 'historical record' we can refer to would be awesome.

We have no issue with a thread on the main board that deals with a specific event in the players career, in fact that type of discussion needs to take place in a more open forum. What we would like is a link in the players thread too, even a link to the discussion thread too if its a big enough topic. Eg: Scully.

New standard suggestion to be added to the start of each thread:
Video Streams

International viewers can get live video of games from http://www.afl.livesport.tv/.

Local viewers can see games on Foxtel or via XBox or T-Box (though you'd need to be desperate given the limitations of T-Box).

Please do not post in this thread asking for links to streams. Your account will be suspended for a day.

Also a reminder for us all not to go asking for illegal links.

Hi guys,

Can everyone see the 'Mega threads' on the end of year stuff like trades. list management, free agency, rookies, draft & all that stuff?

Threads on this sort of topic will be merged into one of the three them unless you take a real different spin on them. This time of year we always get a heap but its good to keep this robust discussion to a limited amount of threads.

We love the effort but try to mix it up if yuo want to take a different approach on these subjects.

Also PM us if you want to talk it over.

Thanks,

Mods

Ladies & gentlemen, boys & girls & distinguished guests.

We have noticed recently that there has been a trend toward making personal comments about other posters when differing opinions arise. We encourage strong opinions as this promotes discussion but the 'Play the Ball' approach not the 'Play the man' is what we want to encourage. We understand much of this is a result of the frustration that comes along with supporting the Dees, but that shouldn't be an excuse to direct it at other posters.

Going forward we will remove any content that show a lack of respect towards other posters. We know most are capable of taking this on board but feel free to PM any of the mods if you have questions.

Think of the golden rule, then apply it.

Hey all,

We've been noticing some issues that we need to address.

Too many personal comments

As a mod team, we have been noticing an increase in the amount of sniping, vitriol and other nastiness directed by posters at others. Its becoming a concerning trend that is distracting from discussion and making the place nasty.

This is derailing threads and scaring people away.

Newbies don't want to post in an environment where insults are being thrown about, and it's making genuine discussion difficult.

As such, we are instituting a low-tolerance policy for any personal attacks.

Your first offense will be a warning; from there you will be infracted. This personal bickering has to stop.

Report personal attacks instead of responding.

If you feel you are a victim of these insults, please report any relevant posts and the mod team will assess them.

Questions?

If you have any concerns, please raise it via PM with the mod team or in the Feedback Thread.

And the golden rule: Be nice to newbies!

Thanks,

Proper Gander Crimson Azure ThePuppetMaster Striker475

THE JACK WATTS RULE

The mod team has concerns about the potential for Jack to derail anything and everything on the Melbourne board going forward.

As such, we are interceding with a new rule: the Jack Watts rule.

All discussion about JW is to be restricted to this thread: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/thre...read-all-discussion-about-jw-in-here.1180747/

Any discussion of JW outside of this thread will be dealt with using warnings and deleted posts. Continued offences will be dealt with by cards.
