Melbourne is without doubt the crime capital of Australia. The town is full of it from the modern day African and islander gangs to the bikie “underbelly” gangs of old and before that bushrangers etc.

The place has undoubtedly the softest courts and polic force in the country and glamourise the criminals like no other place I’ve been.

The crime statistics back this up with Melbourne having the third highest crime level behind Townsville and Darwin (both inflicted by indigenous issues - argument for another day) and clearly ahead of the likes of Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Why are victorians so tolerant of crime? How can a city be “liveable” when you are more likely to be a victim of crime than almost anywhere else in Australia? Why are criminals glamourised in Victoria?

Simple.

Melbourne is the self proclaimed sports capital of the world.
Criminality is like sport.

Victorians cheer on criminality like they cheer on their footy team.
Also explains why Essendon doped, Carlton rorted the cap, Melbourne tanked.

I'm more concerned about the grid lock that affects me on an almost daily basis, compared with crime that affects me hardly ever..

Can you start a thread on that?
So you’d rather be curve stomped by an African gang member than be held up in some traffic (although agree that is another horrendous problem for the “liveable” city)

When you first get to the first page it asks whether you would like to give an opinion on Melbourne crime. - that is opinion, not statistics.
Try again...
Statistical proof that more people are concerned about crime in Melbourne than anywhere else in Australia

Above article from the age covers off on the increased murder rate having it the highest in Australia

I’m sure that will be dismissed by you as well

The year to December 2017 shows the number of recorded offences is 504,070.
In the last three years there has been a 47.8% increase in aggravated residential burglaries and a 29.6% increase in aggravated robberies.

Over the same period, motor vehicle thefts are up 10.3%, rape is up 16.5% and sexual offences have increased by 28.3%.

For the last 12 months, attempted murder is up 51.9% and sexual offences have increased by 15.9%.

No crime problem though

One thing I will definitely agree with, it gets glamourised, safe to say though that Vic aren't the Lone Ranger in that regard.

I watched the first series of Underbelly and then never watched another. Never watched shows such as Breaking Bad or Son's of Anarchy. The seem to portray things as a career choice for the young and impressionable.

Actually no it isn't being dismissed as it is actual figures not an opinion piece even though this only about murders and not all crime as stated by you.

Here are some more links:

http://theconversation.com/factcheck-does-victoria-have-australias-highest-rate-of-crime-105846

Although this is 2016-2017, may have changed in the last 12 months, very little difference and not worth the title of 'crime capital'.

You didn't even look at the links. One of them was federal, comparing states. Who is in government ? LNP, don't think those letters stand for Labor.
