Stats:

The year to December 2017 shows the number of recorded offences is 504,070.
In the last three years there has been a 47.8% increase in aggravated residential burglaries and a 29.6% increase in aggravated robberies.

Over the same period, motor vehicle thefts are up 10.3%, rape is up 16.5% and sexual offences have increased by 28.3%.

For the last 12 months, attempted murder is up 51.9% and sexual offences have increased by 15.9%.

Melbourne's population is expanding at an average rate of 3.8% a year so you need to knock off ~11.5% from those cherry picked statistics. One of your cherry picked stats is actually down on a per capita rate. So no wonde Melbournians have no idea what planet you're on, and are more concerned with infrastructure than crime that's just not happening.

Statistics and facts are good but can be massaged to weave false narratives like you have just done.

Melbourne is without doubt the crime capital of Australia. The town is full of it from the modern day African and islander gangs to the bikie “underbelly” gangs of old and before that bushrangers etc.

The place has undoubtedly the softest courts and polic force in the country and glamourise the criminals like no other place I’ve been.

The crime statistics back this up with Melbourne having the third highest crime level behind Townsville and Darwin (both inflicted by indigenous issues - argument for another day) and clearly ahead of the likes of Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Why are victorians so tolerant of crime? How can a city be “liveable” when you are more likely to be a victim of crime than almost anywhere else in Australia?Why are criminals glamourised in Victoria?

No I'm not, there are a ton of reasons why individual crime statistics may rise or four from year to year. But in order to weave your narrative, you cherry picked four crime stats, over a cherry picked time period, and even then one of them showed a per-capita decrease.

Yeah, slip further and further into being the biggest and richest city in the country.

It has plenty of issues - the congestion Snake_Baker mentions is high on the list - but only deadshits from Queensland like Dutton think the crime stuff is some massive deal.

As I said, in very small pockets, there's intense crime issues, overall, it is a hugely safe city.

I was targeted by dangerous driving and road rage the other day driving down the M1 towards Geelong..

The place is too unsafe and filled with crime.

You scoff but are you just going to pretend that people weren’t shot in the neighbouring suburb just this weekend? That African gangs aren’t smashing up toorak?

Personally I did what any good man would do and got out before I copped anything major but had my fence graffitied multiple times, garden tools stolen, someone smashed the windscreen of my girlfriends car while parked in my driveway.

That’s just Armidale don’t get me started on dandenong
