Red Verdon likely to be heading down here for the Cups. Ran a solid second in the Hardwicke but it was a small field. Was flogged by Magic Circle the start prior. It looks like his rating is 109 - not sure he’d be guaranteed to get in to the Melbourne Cup with that.

Watch him shorten big time due to the "Red Cadeaux" factor

Melbourne Cup Max FB page now talking up Withold - wins a 2 mile race in Newcastle now favourite on antepost markets

Prince of Arran also ran 2nd in Belmont cup (race Red Cardinal won last year) don't know much about it though

Laughable - Northumberland Plate form has never been anywhere near good enough for the Melbourne Cup when it was run on turf let alone now when it has been switched to all-weather.

On pacer too which is generally an awful racing style for Flemington.

Lay of the century at current prices - absolute poison.

Rekindling and Johannes Vermeer not likely to come because of "too much weight". Its a sad day when having 56 or 57 kgs is too much weight to carry for a race worth $7.3 million. If the prize money wont get the best field then racing has gone right off the rails.

I think both horses are still in the country, so I think the phrase you are after is 'race' :)

Simply playing mind games so Latrobe isn't crucified too much

Sometimes the correlation between words and deeds is not high with Macedon Lodge.

Last year we were told Rekindling would not be coming for the Cup, and that the Williamses had to firmly reject Joseph O’Brien’s pleas to travel him for the Cup. Less than a week later Rekindling entered quarantine...

Marmelo won overnight in France
Trainer indicated will be coming again, but no lead up race here this time. Straight to Flemington

Waterhouse Japanese horse Hush Writer looks a decent prospect
Jumped on a small antepost bet with odds boost at $81

https://m.gladstoneobserver.com.au/news/gai-waterhouse-eyes-cups-with-japanese-import-hush/3481269

GAI Waterhouse hopes an experiment of buying four Japanese weanlings in 2015 with an aim of finding a Melbourne Cup winner can come to fruition later this year with Hush Writer.

Hush Writer was one of six highly credentialed Japanese horses who arrived at the Werribee quarantine centre on Monday.

Three of the stayers, Tosen Basil, Admire Robson and Cassius, will join Darren Weir, while Anthony Freedman will train Happy Moment and Danon Roman.

The quintet were bought by Ozzie Kheir for his Victorian syndicate.

Six-year-old Tosen Basil finished sixth in the 3200m Tenno Sho at Kyoto in April and is a $26 chance for the Melbourne Cup with TAB Fixed Odds.

But Hush Writer has taken a different path, with the Japanese-bred three-year-old colt having three starts in France.

Trained by Francis Graffard, he finished second on debut before winning his next start, both at Longchamp. He then ran third in the Group 2 Prix Hocquart Longines (2400m) at Chantilly.aterhouse hopes Hush Writer can follow in the footsteps of Rekindling last year and win the Melbourne Cup as a northern hemisphere three-year-old.

She said Hush Writer was the result of a plan that involved buying four weanling colts in Japan three years ago.

Waterhouse entered a partnership with Craig Thompson from Mount Hallowell Stud, Western Australia, and her husband Robbie selected the horses.

"We couldn't afford to buy proven Japanese horses, and also the market for proven stayers in Europe had also got too expensive," she said.

Waterhouse said they paid about $200,000 for each of the four horses.

Waterhouse said due to ownership restrictions in Japan, the colts were sent to France.

One of the colts strained a tendon and had to be sold, two arrived in Australia earlier this year and Hush Writer joined them this week.

"He's an exciting prospect," she said of Hush Writer. "I saw him on Monday and he's a magnificent colt. He's got an exciting turn of foot and if you wanted to buy him you'd be paying upwards of $2 million.

"He's set for the Caulfield Cup and the Melbourne Cup and he's the right sort of horse for those races

Says the bloke that couldn’t find Rekindling on the day after 3/4 of the forum tipped him into it. Crikey.

Oh Wattsy - please try harder :)

From a quick look at the bet tracker thread

You better hurry up and delete your posts before I find something. :D

Although Ctrl-F Redkirk Warrior may throw up some solid melts

Appleby looking ominous. This could be the year an English trainer wins it.

Cross Counter won the G3 Gordon Stakes, beating Dee Ex Bee comprehensively. Only a field of 4 but this horse is now in the Cup field if they want, and the word is they do want. Apparently he’s coming with no more Euro runs planned. Gets a light weight (foaled 2015), has turn of foot.

Hamada goes to the Geoffrey Freer. Very impressive in the Gordon’s Handicap last start but needs to lift his rating a little and meet the qualifying condtion (of placing in a relevant group event).

Charlie’s done his homework.

Also trying to qualify Walton Street but more to do there.

Cross Counter @ $26 won't jump on just yet will await the Kergolay running first backing the winner there antepost plus Cross Counter should drift slightly after that
